The Casita or Casa Colorado Bed and Breakfast are both conveniently located 1 hr. from Denver and 40 minutes from Boulder and are a just a short walk from each other in the mountains 7 miles south east of Nederland. It's the perfect getaway from the city life!! Come pamper yourself with the relaxing, cool breezes at 9,000 ft!! If you are interested in the B&B option The B&B offers a custom suite to one party at a time and offers an all organic, local cuisine served up custom to your palette or dietary restrictions!! Fresh eggs Daily!!Enjoy the private sauna, steam shower, hot tub, and 143 in. home theatre!!

Both the B&B and the Casita are also 420 friendly! Enjoy everything Colorado!

The CASITA is not just any vacation rental. It has lots of custom touches and artistry. The house was initially designed to be a vacation rental and it has a personality unlike any other. It is certainly a one of a kind home! The Casita is a brand new construction that we have been building since 2012. The house is primarily made up of reclaimed materials with the exception of some of the framing lumber. All of the windows, doors, flooring, cabinets, counters, granite, flagstone, outdoor kitchen, and even all of the appliances came from other resources.

After building our bed and breakfast, Casa Colorado over the last ten years and using reclaimed materials, we had the idea to build another house that could be a vacation rental and would act as an example of a reclaimed design and build project, start to finish. After discovering Resource in Boulder and a few other used building suppliers, I was able to stockpile all of the house parts before we started building. I designed this house by using the pieces that I found, but also prioritizing the artistic integrity, functionality, and upscale class of the home.

The house sleeps up to 10 people, but is probably the most comfortable with 6-8. There is a king in the master bedroom, as well as a queen futon, there are two single beds in the loft, and a queen in the downstairs bedroom. There are also 4 blow up mattresses and two pack n’ plays for kids.

The Casita Kitchen is built with an open floor plan and features a stained torquoise concrete slab with in floor radiant heat, a beautiful Viking range with a center griddle and a stainless dishwasher and refrigerator. There is also a professional grade blender, coffee maker, French press, 4 slice stainless toaster, and a soda stream for making your own bubbly water. There are professional grade copper pots and pans, as well as stainless for your cooking pleasure. There is a crockpot and a Champion juicer, as well. The kitchen is fully stocked with a full line of savory herbs and spices and a few varieties of sea salts and also fresh organic herbs growing for your convenience.

The lighting in the Casita is really amazing. There are remote controlled full spectrum leds, moroccon sconces up the stairwell, deep blue pendants over the island, and rail and cable lighting throughout the house. Every light in the house has a dimmer. The ability to create a really cool feeling in this house is one of its signature characteristics!

The living room is very quaint and has an 8 ft. cozy designer couch, as well as two comfy chairs. There is a pellet stove that does a great job of heating the space and provides a really warm atmosphere during the winter months. There is also in floor radiant heat in the kitchen and the two bathrooms and radiant wall mount heat in the rest of the house.

There are flatscreen tvs with direct tv in each bedroom and a 55 inch in the living room. There is a Harmon Kardon surround sound stereo system in the living room and speakers throughout the entire house for your listening pleasure. The stereo also has a tablet that you can stream spotify or Pandora or use it to get online. There is also wifi throughout the house.

Design: There are many amazing artistic features to this house. We used custom, handmade tile in the downstairs shower that almost feels ocean like, and ties together the torquoise theme throughout the house. There is a deep blue vessel sink that compliments the tile and sits upon a late 1800's sink basin. There are glass tiles, raku tiles, custom textures, reclaimed 1800’s beams and an ornate Balian architectural piece in the kitchen that truly brings an old world feel to the kitchen. The house feels open and airy and has high, vaulted ceilings.

Hot tub: The hot tub is located right out the back door for easy access and is always set to 104-106 for your comfort. There are two glass enclosed showers, but they are not steam showers. They do, however , get pretty warm inside as they are both fairly small enclosures.

Skiiing/ Sledding: The house is located about 15 minutes from Eldora Mountain Resort. Eldora offers plenty of downhill terrain as well as a great Nordic Center with miles of Nordic trails to choose from. Sledding can happen right from the house! The location is perfect for sledding right out the front door! The hill is just right out of the front door. Sleds and snow shoes are provided. The house also backs up to National forest, so it feels very private and really there are 100’s of acres of forest right behind the house. We continue to work on the trail system so that hiking and cross country skiing can happen right from the house.

Hiking: During the summer months there are amazing hikes all within a 15-minute drive. We supply the house with trail maps for your convenience.

Closest town: The nearest town is the town of Nederland. It is located just about 7 miles away from the Casita and has an assortment of restaurants, cafes, bike shops, grocery store, co-op, liquor stores and is a just a really charming, little, mountain town.

Blackhawk is 12 miles from the house, as well. Technically, we are a Blackhawk address, but it’s actually closer to Nederland than it is to Blackhawk.

The Casita is also just a minute walk to Casa Colorado, which is our Bed and Breakfast. The Casa offers a high -end suite to one party at a time. So, if you have friends that want to come up for a night or two the Casa suite is a great option. There is also no minimum stay requirement at the Casa, so it’s a great way to have a few friends up for even just one night without needing to crowd the Casita.

For an occasion or group that desires more than the basics, Casa Colorado is the perfect location! The B&B offers a unique stay for one party at a time and we cater to all types of dietary restrictions and offer organic, local fair whenever possible. We have fresh eggs daily from our hardworking hens!

If you are looking for a great getaway for just you and your partner, husband, or wife and would like to be pampered a bit more with breakfast each day, visit Casa Colorado! Located just 1 minute from the Casita, Casa Colorado is a B&B with over 4,000 sq. ft. to enjoy and relax. It is also built from mostly reclaimed and custom pieced material. Walls are alive with murals, embedded fossils and stones, and warm rustic texturing. The vivid décor includes furnishings and art from around the globe, incorporating works from local artists including stained glass work, mosaic pieced mirrors, re-purposed Japanese shoji screens and handmade tiles. Located at 9200 feet elevation, our mountain home enjoys constant sunlight and solar gain, filling the house with a warmth that sets this house apart from other rentals. Epic views of the Continental Divide bring the natural beauty of Colorado indoors to this impressive home.

Artistic design is not the only element that distinguishes the Casa from other rental properties. Luxury amenities make our home the ultimate retreat. Enjoy complete privacy with amenities designed for relaxing and settling into a spa-style atmosphere. Steam, soak and sauna away the day! Indulge in special services including in-house massage treatments or private yoga. We've provided everything of the highest quality, and you’ll find that no detail has been missed.

Located on the patio level, the private suite has its own entrance and includes private spa amenities. Enjoy the wet cedar sauna and steam shower, then linger by the gas fireplace in the bedroom. The large living area with a home theater is a perfect place to enjoy a film or Direct Tv on the big screen! The mini bar offers tea service and a refrigerator so that guests can keep snacks at hand. We provide high end linens and stock our suite with organic local soaps and teas, just a few of the details that makes the Casa stay unique.

The main floor of the Casa offers common space and has a comfortable sitting area with a wood stove. Meals are served in the formal dining room and a large outdoor table is perfect for any meal. The adjoining solarium is a perfect place for sunning or doing yoga, set amidst thriving plants and fresh herbs. Patio space outdoors offers a fire pit, pizza oven and an outdoor dining area with plenty of space for lounging.

About scott Messersmith

While working on the road as a touring musician, Scott purchased Casa Colorado and began the arduous task of building his greatest creation, piece by piece. A few years later the vision came together when Morgan moved in and they decided to share their home, primarily as a B&B, and later as an entire house rental. By choosing to stay closer to home, they are able to spend more time shaping their vision for a more sustainable lifestyle. Both passionate about high altitude gardening, today they are a little bit farmer, artists, chefs, and professionals that wear many hats to complete the jobs on what they joke has become a mini mountain farm.

scott Messersmith purchased this house in 2002

If you have more people in your party that might want to come up for a night or two, the B&B is conveniently located right up the road and has a first class suite with a private steam shower, sauna, home theatre and hot tub. You can choose to rent the suite with or without breakfast. Also, the B&B has no minimum stay, so if you want friends to come up and just stay for a couple of nights, it's the perfect option.

What makes this house unique

We are committed to filling our space with creativity and inspiration, whether it be in the form of our gardens, art we display or the food we eat. In this house you will experience the vibrancy infused into its creation and celebrated on a daily basis. Like many of our guests, you may end up leaving here inspired to shape your space to incorporate more art, more sustainability and a new recipe or two!

Amazing Property

  • 5 of 5

The Cassita is a one of a kind home with amazing custom features and breath taking views. The layout is great especially with the very user friendly kitchen. We stayed for 4 nights and ended up cooking every night instead of going out to eat because it was fun to cook in the kitchen and grill using the outdoor patio. Speaking of outdoors the fire pit area with a hottub was a great spot to hang out after a long day of hiking. We loved everything about this house and had great service/help from the owner Scott. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. He even brought us tin foil when we ran out. We can wait to stay again.

Best Colorado Cabin I've Ever Rented!

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from a weeks stay in this fantastic house with my 3 kiddos. First, the pictures really do not do this place justice. I've stayed in several luxury vacation rentals in Colorado and this is by far my favorite. Scott went above and beyond by meeting us in Nederland to make certain my rental car could make the trek up as the Blizzard of 2016 was the day before and dumped almost 3' of snow in the mountains. We followed him up with no problems and he gave us a great overview of the house, and even started a fire for us in the stove. Right off, the views are just breathtaking!! The house is situated where you have complete solitude (which was what I was after) and amazing mountain views.

We enjoyed so many things about this place it's hard to know where to start. The kids immediately headed outside to play with the sleds that were provided and dig caves and tunnels in the snow. They didn't come back in until after dark!! We then enjoyed a dip in the amazing hot tub which easily fits 4 people.

I'm not overly fond of cooking, but that wasn't the case here. The kitchen is fully equipped with professional appliances, including a Viking range where I cooked enough food to feed my army daily. The house has professional grade pots, bakeware, a soda stream, toaster, blender, on and on. I never found a tool I needed that wasn't provided.

We also enjoyed movies and popcorn in front of the huge TV with an amazing sound system. At night, I laid in bed and looked up at the stars or the snow in the MOST LUXURIOUS SHEETS I've ever slept in. They were so great, I'm ordering them for my own home! In the morning, I'd have my coffee and look out at the Divide, then enjoy a spa grade shower which also had a view!

While here, we also hiked around the property in the snowshoes that were provided and skied at Eldora which was just a short drive from the house, and far less crowded/expensive than Breckenridge (which is where we usually ski.)

We enjoyed a great Thai meal in Nederland, and found the town very convienient when we needed groceries or supplies. The town is super cute, and has great little coffee shops, bakery, ice cream shop, pizza joint and more, and the people are so friendly.

Scott made sure to check in on us regularly and was the best VRBO host we've had, very quick to return calls and texts and easy to deal with. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to enjoy CO, even though I'd almost rather keep it a secret:)

Incredible getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful casita! Such a thoughtful design - artful and functional space. Breathtaking views inside and out! Highly recommend a visit to the casita if you are looking to get out of the city for a few days. Plenty to do, or not do during the day, and then soak in the hot tub under the stars at night. Hosts are very friendly and thoughtful. Cannot overstate...love this casita Colorado!

AMAZING PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place is awesome!!! What an amazing house. Everything we could have ever asked for or wanted was provided. The kids loved playing in the snow and sledding down the awesome hills. My wife loved having coffee while looking over the breathtaking mountain views. The pellet stove kept the house warm and was a great addition. A nice home to get away from it all and relax. A great place to have quality family time and make some great memories. A big thank you to Scott for making this an awesome trip to the mountains. I love this area of colorado and this house made it even better. My family and I look forward to the next time we can come and enjoy it.

Gorgeous Gorgeous and utterly fabulous

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at this place several times. It is breathtaking in every detail. Scott is a genius artistic builder designer. It is such a beautiful home set overlooking the continental divide. It is a sweet couple retreat spot but also perfect for a big family get away. This place is filled with so many luxury details pictures cannot express. Just showering in the morning with sweeping views of Rockies as a back drop melted away every anxiety I have ever felt. Also, the area has so much to offer with skiing, restaurants, gorgeous hikes, mountain lakes, and a classic merry go round! Or, we just stayed around the property, took hot tubs, sled down the hill, played volleyball, made grand meals in the amazing kitchen and the outdoor pizza oven! It was the perfect stay and vacation. Also, Scott and Morgan are the dearest most helpful people ever and made sure we had everything I needed. I will definitely be coming back annually.
