About Marianne Chinea

We are from Florida and love to vacation in our mountain home up in the Smokies. We have made incredible memories with our kids there and hope that our guests can enjoy it and have great times with their families at Copper Top!

Marianne Chinea purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Marianne Chinea chose Maggie Valley

We visited Maggie Valley with some friends since 2001. There was just something about Maggie Valley that lured us in. It's a quaint little town with some amazing views. There are so many fun things to do however also amazing to just sit and read with an incredible view of the Smokies.

What makes this cabin unique

It is accessible year-round and the road is paved and maintained year round. We are very close to Cataloochee Ski and Ranch.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We usually get a cottage on the outer banks of North Carolina, but it was getting a little "old". We had a 75 MPH trip from Eastern NC to Maggie Valley. There are 3 or 4 nice rest areas to picnic or get out and walk the dog, that are maintained by the state of NC YES.!! I did say walk the dog!!! Copper Top has the added attraction of allowing pets, and our little dog just had as much fun as we did.

This has been one of the hottest summers on record, but we were so comfortable with temps in the 70's and at night in the high 60's. This cottage is the most unique one our family has ever stayed in. If you see the picture of the cabin on the net, it looks like a tiny cabin. It has 3 floors and 2 are built into the side of the mountain.! It does seem that you are the only person on the mountain, but you are not. Nice road to the cabin . Our entire family went and we had more than enough room to park 3 cars.

It has just the right amount of kitchen you need on a vacation. You can make large dinners or small suppers and everything is there. Everything is so new. The island in the kitchen has a bar with stools.. There is a nice dining room table as well. The den has a wonderful fireplace which I was sad we did not need! Our 30 somthing children and spouses, and grandson immediately plugged in all their electronic devices. There was no problem using the computers anywhere because the cabin has wireless modems!! Tlie living room with fireplace has a huge cable tv with sattelite hookup.> On this first floor is a large bath and bedroom with Queen bed. and tv/ The beds were already made for us!! The laundry area is perfect with ironing board and iron. The first floor has lovely hardwood floors with rugs in stategic places. The decorator used a Black Bear Theme for many pictures, quilts, even a bear rug on the floor. The quilts and curtains in the home are gorgeous. I love quilts and a country feeling.

A door opens that leads downstairs to the most complete gaming room I have ever seen . There was pool, fooz ball, darts, huge tv with interactive games as well as almost any child or adult game you would want. There is a couch and chair, and it is just the right place for kids or guys who want to watch football games. A porch just outside overlooks the valley going down the mountain. There was a PSP game a

Great cabin and location

  • 5 of 5

My two college age sons and I had a great time in Copper Top cabin. We were there for a week with a late snow and unseasonably cold weather. Because of the nearby ski resort, the road up to the cabin was kept clear and presented no difficulty in driving even for a family from Alabama with minimal snow/ice driving experience. Major roads in the surrounding area were also kept clear. We used the cabin as a base for day trips out to Waynesville, Ashville, Cherokee, and Gatlinburg. We were able to do a couple of nice day hikes despite the weather (Blue Ridge Parkway was closed). Newfound Gap was opened near the end of the week.

Everything in the cabin was as described. The hot tub was clean and at temperature on arrival. Pool table, air hockey and fooseball provided evening entertainment for the family. The cabin is well laid out with one bedroom on each level. The loft sitting area has a great view and is a wonderful place for a morning cup of tea or coffee as the sun comes up. The kitchen was well supplied with pans of varying sizes, cooking utensils, coffee pot, kettle etc. Plenty of towels, bedding available. Wireless internet was available, but was slow and had spotty service. We did have the unfortunate experience of locking ourselves out of the cabin one morning. The owners were immediately available by cell phone and had a local contact get us back in within a little over an hour. Great service from the owners, and we do apologize for the trouble. Overall we had a great time at Copper Top!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much and so glad you all enjoyed yourself. It is a great place to just get together with family and enjoy the outdoors and the cozy cabin. The internet is spotty since we are such high elevation and it is satellite internet. Glad you enjoyed please come back again!!!!!

Property as advertised..no surprises on arrival

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin and would stay again. Had a very relaxing week. The game room is fantastic. Decks and fire pit were awesome and the hot tub was wonderful, beautiful views from the tub and upper deck. The hot tub started leaking around the bottom 2 days before we left..called the owners, he apologized and said he would get someone out next day..but next day was July 4 and we left on the 5th. Completely understand since it was a holiday. We would definitely recommend this cabin and would love to stay with them again. It would be gorgeous in the fall.

Not what we were expecting

  • 2 of 5

We rented this home for our family vacation and ran into 2 big issues, one of which the owner addressed and one he did not. We realized on the 1st day that the A/C was not working properly and told the owner. It took a few days to diagnose the issue, but once they did they had it repaired. The temperature outside allowed us to be comfortable with the windows open. The 2nd issue was the internet. When we got there it was working perfectly, but the 2nd morning I received a message that 100% of the monthly data allowance had been used, and that internet speeds would be significantly reduced. The internet became very slow. There was limited cellular service at the home, so we couldn’t use our phone’s data plans. I contacted the owner about the internet and he responded that unfortunately the it is good sometimes and not so good sometimes, and that weather has a lot to do with it. I told him it was not because of the weather, it was because he was out of data. I told him it was not our fault if someone before us used it all, and that he should purchase more or give us a discount. He ignored that message. The next morning I received the same message, so I copied the entire thing and sent it to him. He ignored that also. I made a formal complaint to HomeAway. The next day the owner called me and said that if he found another renter had used all the data he would give me a discount, but that if he found that we had used all the data that would be another story. I told him that I felt sure that we couldn’t have used all the data in less than 2 days. He said he would be in touch after talking to the internet provider. I followed up with him the day we left. He replied that he had just spoken to the internet provider and that he was waiting on a report from them. I followed up with him again today, but no response. The house is nice enough and is in a good location. They say it sleeps 10 but we had 7 and I feel that is the max that would be comfortable. A few other things: there was a shortage of forks. The sofa bed in the living room would not lay out flat. There were sheets for the sofa beds, but they smelled stale and I had to wash them. These were not big deals, but the internet was. We didn’t allow the internet issue to put a damper on our time together, but it was disappointing to have to deal with this while on vacation. We save all year and plan to make sure all have a good time, and to feel like that didn’t mean anything to the owner is upsetting.
