About Michael & Lorilee (Lulu)

Dear Families and Friends,

We are honored by the many wonderful families who in the last 14 years have chosen Trimble Creek Lodge for their vacations or getaways. Over the years we created many memories during our family vacations with our children and extended family and friends. We hope you will do the same during your time here with us in Arkansas, the Natural State. We are fortunate our kids still return “to the Lake.” As a family, we treasure the things that were most different from our daily lives – long (and competitive) card games, lazy afternoons on the lake, learning new ways to have fun in the water – tubing, skiing, wakeboarding, fishing and making up games of our own!

Here at Trimble Creek Lodge we hope you enjoy leaving your normal lives behind and experiencing life in our unique, natural setting where summer days are distinctive, simple and relaxed. Enjoy fixing (and eating) family breakfasts or dinners when no one is rushed to get to work, soccer or school. Have the kids do the dishes though there is one dishwasher in the East Cottage for group meals. Take the time to enjoy a quiet morning outdoors listening to the birds. Have a family story/discussion night and hear everyone’s stories – Grandpa as well as young ones (Michael & Lorilee have a basket of story-starting questions). Please let us know any questions about Trimble Creek Lodge. Our hope is that your family and friends will build your own memories and vacation traditions here in one of the most pristine, natural environments you will find in all of the US.

Why Michael & Lorilee (Lulu) chose Arkansas

We vacationed on Bull Shoals for years with our kids and realized there were no places quite like Trimble Creek Lodge - distinctive, yet simple and relaxed. Below is a list compiled by our guests of their favorite experiences here at Trimble Creek Lodge. Previous guests, please send us your favorites to add!

Favorite Vacation Experiences at Trimble Creek Lodge

Eat, sleep, read, fish!

Memorial Day – Mid September: Tube, Waterski or wakeboard on the lake where the water is beautiful and clean.

Game night in the Lodge – we have Cards, Poker chips, Scrabble, Monopoly, Dominoes, Jenga, Pool table (adults), Foosball (outdoor porch), Pictionary, Yahtzee, Uno, Apples to Apples, Guesstures and more - or bring your favorite games!

Walk - Forget the treadmill while you’re here, we have 72 acres for outdoor walking! (Remember the insect repellent and shoes for walking on rocky surfaces.)

Walk to the dock – 6 minutes down, 10 minutes up a rocky Arkansas lane – about ¼ mile.

Walk from the Meadow House to the Lodge, Lodge to Meadow House (1/4 mile), enjoy the views and scenery along the way.

Or bring your bikes for riding between the Meadow House or Barn at TCL and Lodge (the hills surrounding the Lodge are rocky and a bit steep for biking although we have had some mountain bike enthusiast who disagree!)

Bring your Discs and enjoy our new 9 Hole Disc Golf Course set up between the Meadow House and the Lodge.

Swim (Memorial Day – Mid September) or relax off the dock – we have both sun and shade for swimmers and relaxers.

Boat on the Lake – 1,000 miles of shoreline on the 10th largest lake in the US. Pack a picnic, find a nice cove, jump into the lake for a swim, play water volley ball or keep away. Nap or read in the boat. Enjoy this beautiful, clean and sparsely populated lake. There are boat rentals nearby at the Buck Creek and 125 Marinas.

Go to the next section for more things to do!

What makes this house unique

If you are here over July 4, consider watching fireworks over the lake from a boat! Pack your family into boats and enjoy a mosquito-free fireworks display from the lake.

Watch the hummingbirds, phoebes, bluebirds, orioles, indigo buntings, nuthatches, turkey, osprey, herons, hawks and even an occasional eagle.

Make (and eat) homemade ice cream!

Enjoy a baking lesson and learn to make Lulu’s home-made bread or other goodies.

Take outdoor showers (nice cold well water) or take a bath at the lake.

Have a picnic on the lake or dock.

Relax on one of our porches with friends or family. Meadow House has outdoor fans on the covered porch and a lovely meadow views. The East Cottage has sunny lake views and several shaded porches, front and back. Barn has a lovely view of an oak tree dappled meadow with the Lodge/East Cottage in the background.

Read a book from home or one of the many magazines or books we have available for our guests - Michael & Lorilee are retired teachers – Lorilee used to bring one suitcase filled with books on every vacation. Read a book in the TCL Treehouse and sign the Treehouse Reading Wall of Fame!

Float the icy cold White River and fish for trout.

Have a horseshoes or washers tournament.

Weather permitting, enjoy a bonfire, and bring your guitars! (Our county sometimes proclaims a “burn ban” if the weather is dry. This protects the forests that surround Trimble Creek Lodge.)

Float the Buffalo River (about 50 miles from TCL) and see why this is popular with outdoors enthusiasts from all parts of our country. In fact, the Buffalo was the first National Scenic Riverway in thIn fact, the Buffalo was the first National Scenic Riverway in the US.

Travel 90 miles to the original Bass Pro Shop, Springfield, MO – the outdoor enthusiasts and fishermen & women will thank you!

Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for the outstanding hospitality and the successful family reunion! I cannot tell you how thrilled I was with your cottages and the lodge. Everything was beautiful, inside and out. The only kitchen we used was the one in the East Cottage and I must say I have never seen a rental so well stocked.

The relaxing atmosphere in the lodge led to great conversations, lots of laughs and catching up with family that we don't see often. Sitting on the patio or in the lodge, looking out at the lake was beyond breathtaking! It's easy to see how the two of you fell in love with the place!

I have already recommended Trimble Creek to others and I will always remember that weekend fondly!

5 Brothers Yearly Trip

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful, relaxing, secluded getaway with neat, tidy accommodations. Three buildings with comfortable sleeping quarters. Their most excellent beds provide great sleep.

Gracious host and hostess engage with the guests with taste and style. They will cook for you, but if you bring your own food to prepare in one of the three fully equipped kitchens, they might still bring surprises like Lulu's Trimble Lodge bread or home made ice cream. I got Lulu's bread recipe and made some since!

My brothers and I each had one of the 5 bedrooms. 2 in the main house, 1 in the barn apartment, and two in the house on the border. TV's in each. WiFi, too. There is a fully covered tree house near the main house, which we oldsters never entered, but kids would never pass up.

We went out to fish and play golf during the day, but at nite, we were invited to use the fire pit for a bonfire. Horseshoe pits, too.

A pool table and other games are in the great hall that features big picture windows for looking out over the lake.

If you get up before dawn and look out the window, you will see deer, turkey and plenty of other birds to enjoy watching.

I watched the sun come up two mornings. Nice!

If you are considering this place, BOOK IT!

Owner's Response: We are always encouraged when our guests take the time to let us know what they enjoyed about their stay with us here at Trimble Creek Lodge. We enjoy sharing our special recipes and giving complementary baking lessons in the Lodge kitchen to any who show interest and we’re so glad this guest has already tried the bread recipe in his home kitchen! Springtime in the Ozarks is simply gorgeous and it was a treat to share it with this special group of brothers during their annual getaway. Hope to see them here again!

Anniversary guests

  • 5 of 5

When we were looking for a place on a nearby lake to celebrate our anniversary this past fall, my husband and I wanted someplace special. Trimble Creek is just that place, part lake resort and spa, with beautiful gardens in a private, natural setting. The owners made us feel welcome immediately. For a special anniversary treat they prepared a wonderful fireside meal for us. I still marvel at their wonderful hospitality. This is by no means your average lake resort. I never felt like I had to "make do" in the kitchen, bath or bedroom. We highly recommend Trimble Creek Lodge.

Owner's Response: Here at Trimble Creek Lodge we strive to make every getaway special, memorable and personalized for each of our groups. We pay careful attention to details in our cottages and Lodge and it is especially encouraging to us when our guests are delighted by or notice the small things we provide to raise their vacation to the level of distinctive, yet simple and relaxed. Helping couples and families celebrate is something we enjoy immensely and we are so glad this couple had a great anniversary here in Arkansas, the Natural State.

A Gem in the Heart of the Ozarks

  • 5 of 5

Being a traveler and used to the amenities of big hotels in major cities, beautiful resorts and vacation homes, I was very surprised to find a gem - Trimble Creek Lodge - in the heart of the Ozarks. From the moment, my brother and I stepped out of the car to our final day at this resort, we were impressed by the level of personalized service by the proprietors, Lorilee and Mike. They were not only warm, hospitable and friendly hosts, but very informative and highly knowledgeable about the area. They lent a special touch to everything – from the welcome sign that greeted us as we entered the lodge, to the bouquet of fresh flowers delivered to the rooms daily. The cabins were very CLEAN, cozy and charming; the décor added to the feeling of a real home.

Upon arrival, and after being led to our quarters, my first impulse was to lay in bed and sleep because I was tired from driving. But the scenery beckoned. The large windows in the lodge offered a view of Bull Shoals Lake that was irresistible and breathtaking. One could read, play a game of pool or backgammon or simply sit, relax and enjoy nature. The gravel paths that meandered around the property offered many surprises – a vegetable garden, a tree house, a homey barn, a small grove of chestnut trees, beautiful rocks from the “Natural State” and breathtaking views of the lake and its creeks.

We sampled Lorilee’s delicious home-made bread, which was freshly baked, but disappointingly, we did not have the time to take the lesson in bread making due to the lack of time.

Trimble Creek offered a lot of privacy and a welcome relief from the stresses of city living.

I highly recommend this beautiful resort and will definitely return and hope to stay longer!

Staying here was certainly one of the most relaxing vacations I have ever had. Being able to spend a whole week with my family was wonderful. We were there for a family reunion (15 of us) and you could be with people as much as you wanted or you could go to your cottage and have some quiet time. The Lodge is beautiful and the two innkeepers were wonderful in making sure everything was o.k.

We also rented a boat a couple days and everyone enjoyed that. There were water sports that the younger ones enjoyed and those who did not participate enjoyed watching. There again, if you did not want to go to the lake, it was wonderful just relaxing in the Lodge.

After we were home a couple weeks, my granddaughters (ages 11 and 13) spent a few days with us before school started. I asked them if they enjoyed our vacation. I got a very enthusiastic "YES". I asked what they liked the most and they said "EVERYTHING"! Not every vacation would get those answers from kids that age.

I would highly recommend this location for a place to stay whether it be a family reunion, a getaway or whatever the occasion.

Owner's Response: So many of the families who find our place come from all parts of the US, like this group who traveled from the East and West coasts, the Midwest and South to vacation here in the Arkansas Ozarks. Being able to be together as a large group but also to find a nook or outdoor view for privacy is one of the advantages of vacationing here. This helps our intergenerational groups to have fun together and also to enjoy the peace and Natural beauty so prevalent in Arkansas, the Natural State. We are thrilled this family chose our place for their special reunion!

Scenic Serenity

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 9 individuals, from 3 years to 80 years of age, travel all over the country. From Cape Cod, MA to San Diego, CA... And when all 9 individuals say they were 100% satisfied with Trimble Creek Lodge, this review should resonate will all that are contemplating on traveling to this particular location.

From the moment we drove down the old dirt road to gain access to the 70+ acre property... We all were a bit worried with what we would find at the end of the road. However, the moment we entered the Trimble Creek Lodge property that all changed as we were greeted with beautifully groomed & spacious land... Immediately, we could tell the owners took great pride in keeping the land in excellent condition. There also was the spectacular views of the lake (absolutely breathtaking)! As we followed the gravel road to the lodge, where we would eventually would check-in, we noticed the adorable Meadow House, the Barn, the Bunk House, and then the main house with attached lodge… All within walking distance!!! My 80 year old grandparents were ecstatic that the houses were all in close proximity to one another, as they were able to walk back and forth from the Meadow House to the Lodge each day.

We were given a short tour of the property and the houses we would be staying. Each house presented its own unique charm and character. The main house / lodge was the gathering point for our family each day/night, as this location offers the best views and also is the designated entertainment area. The Meadow House is at the opposite end of the property, where the grandparents stayed. This particular house offered complete tranquility and rest to those that stayed. The Barn House was another gem of the property! It has been converted to an apartment style living area, and offers a gorgeous bathroom!

I could go on…and on about the lodging facilities at Trimble Creek Lodge… But I believe it’s equally important to note the extraordinary hospitality that was given to use by the owners. They went out of their way to make sure our every need was catered too…and I found that this type of treatment is a rarity, and we all felt a little spoiled as a result of how well we were taken care of. We already miss the wonderful smells of lavender on all the towels and bed linens… and the owners teaching us all how to make old-school ice cream (homemade ice cream)… and the owners baking us fresh homemade batch of bread for dinner! Thank you Lulu & Michael for a wonderful time!
