Very Disappointing

  • 1 of 5

Upon arrival was told by owner she wanted a security deposit and a non-refundable fee for my 6.5lb service animal (dog) which was never discussed prior. This disturbed me but I was willing to pay; However. ..rented for 1 month and only stayed overnight. Dank musty smell upon entering; thought maybe it just needed to be aired out. Wrong... after being up all night due to allergic reaction to mold I investigated the property and found mold in the master closet from an apparent leak as well as inside the shower at floor and window sill. The shower is barely large enough for a small adult not to mention somewhat dangerous due to un-level slate pieces and standing water (no water from us taking a shower it was there upon our arrival and never drained). Some of the furniture has been changed from the pictures on the listing; the dinning room (chairs and table), the sofa and the bed in master (head and foot boards) and window treatments. We could not stay under the circumstances so left a note for owner since she was not at home. Our vacation ruined! 10 days later owner finally contacted me to see if I was going to return and of course I was not; at which time the owner immediately cancelled my reservation and did not respond to my reason for leaving or my request for a refund. If you are looking for a clean, fresh, comfortable place to stay this is NOT it.

Owner's Response: To all past, present and future visitors; More than 10 years have passed since my family and I decided to rent our beloved waterfront, summer cottage to travelers and vacationers from around the US, Canada, Europe and places beyond. Many have become friends and our return guests range around 20%. Our primary residence is also on the property and we have always been available to assist, serve, and, when asked, offer polite recommendations for places of interest, directions and local color. Our cottage has been described appropriately over the years, our descriptions are sincere and former and repeat guests have provided feedback that is readily available to all who wish to read it. Some people may be looking for perfection and some people will never be happy. We are proud of the property and the quality we provide and look forward to the summer rental season of 2017.

Quiet, clean, and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed our August getaway at Waterways Cottage. Donna was a great hostess and offered information on many different places to see and go during our visit. The campfires with s'mores, the visits to the water in front of her home, the quiet surroundings, and the privacy made this a wonderful break from the city. We appreciated a clean cottage including everything we needed for our time away except towels and laundry soap. Spent a lot of time at the local beach and 19 miles away from Mackinac Bridge - nice location! Thank you for your generosity and warmth during our visit - we appreciated it very much!

Great Place to Get Away!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures don't do it justice. The wraparound porch is large enough for a table and chairs and multiple lounge chairs. Very private, lots of room and everything you need is already there! Enjoyed the privacy and wooded setting, and my grandkids loved using the paddle boat and kayaks. There is even a nice fire pit with chairs around it. The landlady is very nice and right next door, if you need anything. Overall, a great time at a very good price!

Great Get Away Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Very nice cottage. Owner was extremely gracious and accommodating. Good location and very accessible to many things. Location of cottage is very private. The wraparound patio was very nice for sitting out even during the rain. The fireplace (gas log) was really nice and made the cottage warm & comfy on more than one occasion. Overall, an excellent value.

Honeymoon cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for our honeymoon and had a great time! The cottage is beautiful, has just about everything you need....all you need is your towels & groceries and is very clean, maintained!! The surrounding area is very scenic...close to state parks, Macinaw City is close, saw salmon jumping out of the water at the dam. You can do as little as you like, or find plenty to do nearby.

Donna is a great resource for what is in the area and has great recommendations.

We are talking about going back next time with family. Very spacious for 2 people, plenty of room for a group of 6 -8.

Hope to come back next time with a boat to explore more! Highly recommend a stay here!

Secluded Gem

  • 5 of 5

My Mother and I recently stayed here and were so relieved that it is as described and kept up very well! The cottage is better than pictured .Plenty of room for us and my Grandmother. The Bathroom handy to the master bedroom was a real plus for her since grabbing onto walls keeps her steady. Our visitors as well thought the place was real nice. The land lady Donna is extra nice and informative..She is like an old friend though you haven't met before. Her grandson was extra helpful in jumping my car when the Garmin drained my battery.. So glad he heard me knock since we had no one to available to help . The loft was plenty big enough for adults as well as children..Twin bed on one side of the divide and full on the other. Beds are comfortable too! Washer and Dryer is very handy and we were so glad to not have to eat out everyday since the kitchen was fully equipped!! Definately will return again...maybe when we can use the Pontoon!
