Great location, great apartment and very helpful landlord.

Jose is a very helpful and accommodating landlord. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. The first night we were not happy with the cover on the bed because it was too warm to sleep under. I called Jose in the morning and he came over and showed us the 'summer' cover and left us extra sheets to use if that cover was too warm.

The apartment has the best set of pots and pans we have seen in any apartment. We told him we preferred to make espresso on the stove and he pulled out an excellent espresso pot from a drawer. There were spices and other basics in the apartment you would need if you are cooking. Besides the Mercado, there are a number of small groceries in the neighborhood plus a Carefore (sp?) SuperMercado less than a block away.

It rained a good bit during our stay and we were stuck inside a couple of times. The apartment is roomy so it was not too unpleasant to be inside. We could sit by the front windows and people watch while we drank our wine.

There are no bars or other noisy businesses on the street so it is quiet for sleeping. Many good bars and restaurants are within a few blocks and the 'Mercado' and the river are just half a block away.

Jose is so accommodating he even volunteered to drive us to the Airport at 4:30AM when we had to leave.

We would definitely stay here again.

AbFab Artekale Apartment

A wonderful apartment in the Casco Viejo. And never has an apartment been as easy to arrive at - a tram from the bus station almost to the front door. Also, waiting at the front door was Jose who then showed us around his charming two bedroom apartment with its well stocked kitchen and welcoming fruit bowl.

Obligatory trips to the Guggenheim ( for me, worth it just to see the Anselm Keifer “Between Two Rivers” ) and Portugalete. Other trips to Bermeo via Gernika ( which I now associate with pimientos, whilst not forgetting the other ) and Plentzia where we had a good menu del dia at a waterside restaurant. Each evening finished at Plaza Nueva.

Ideal location

Spotlessly clean apartment in the old town (best place to be). Everything you need to experience Bilbao close at hand. Bars, restaurants, coffee & fabulous pastries, amazing market. We got a taxi to and from the airport and walked everywhere. Only negative was noise coming from upstairs apartment on our last night. However, Jose Ramon, seemed aware of problem and hopefully this does not happen often. I must stress that this did not spoil our holiday in a great apartment and ideal location. I would most certainly stay there again.
