RIO CASITA WILL BEGIN ACCEPTING GUESTS ON MARCH 1, 2016. PLEASE CALL NOW TO MAKE YOUR RESERVATONS. WE HAVE COMPLETELY RENOVATED THE HOUSE AND ARE NOT QUITE FINISHED AT THIS TIME. MORE COMPLETE PICTURES WILL FOLLOW AS WE FINISH THE LANDSCAPING.

Rio Casita (Little River House) is located in the middle of a beautifully wooded acre of land on the pristine Blanco River. The clear, cool, spring fed river is ideal for kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying nature. Drive the short three miles along River Road that flanks the Blanco into Wimberley, and take a shopping spree through some of the most unique shops you will see anywhere.

This is a very romantic spot with plenty of privacy. The kids will love it also. Walk down the easy sloping hill from your back porch and directly into the river. Great swimming and wading and a superior place to enjoy an ice cold adult beverage. It's all here, come and see!

After fun in the sun and river, head back to the house to enjoy all the ammenities: outdoor grill, great backporch for hanging out, gourmet kitchen - everything you need, except the food. When the sun sets the fire flys appear. It is magical to lay in the hammock and watch the swirl around you.

Rio Casita's water is furnished by a well. From time to time there is the smell of sulfur in the water. That comes from minerals in the ground water. The well is serviced monthly by a local pump and well company and the water is checked periodically to maintain its safety. Be aware that sometimes it is a little smelly, but not always.

About Connie

My husband and I fell in love with Wimberley. When we found Rio Casita, we just had to purchase it. We love being there and use it as a family get away. We love the quietness, the wild life and the easy pace that this place offers. We are very happy that we can share all of that with you.

Connie purchased this house in 2006

Why Connie chose Texas Hill Country

We love being on the water and the Blanco is just right for us and our dogs. Our golden retriever thinks he is in Heaven when he is there.

What makes this house unique

Relax, relax, relax. Lay in the hammock, pull a chair out into the middle of the river; read; walk; listen to nature or just sit on the back porch. A unique place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. However, if you demand a little more activity in your life, the Village of Wimberley is just 2 miles down the road.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Connie

We loved our stay:) Thank you for sharing your tranquil casita. We ended up not bringing the dogs since we were only staying for 2 nights. We were running late getting out of Houston and just wanted to scoot out with no trouble -- after we arrived I felt so guilty!!! They would have loved it. We were able to have a wonderfully relaxing weekend though. I'm attaching a photo of Henry and I relaxing in your great hammock overlooking the river. Later that evening, we went out to the river at 1AM. We were out there with 3 or 4 deer, a friendly skunk (although he made me a tad nervous) and the glorious stars ----- something we really can't see in Houston most of the time:/ We'll be back and hopefully will be taking the dogs along.

Thanks again,

Lynn

Wonderful Home away from Home! Very nicely decorated and comfy. We had fun playing games on the river view back deck and barbecuing. Loved seeing turkeys, deer and tons of fireflies! My dog loved it too!

Better than Ever !!!!

  • 5 of 5

We were so grateful to be able to return to this beautiful home

after last year's flood. The owners have put so much into making this a most wonderful retreat. Remodeling and refurnishing has increased the beauty and restfulness past any expectation. The kitchen and family room are spacious and light. All the beds are great !!!! Fun new master bath and enlarged fenced in back yard. We missed the old growth trees but the river was forever flowing clear making sweet noises as we sat on the porch. The wind blowing and open sky, day or night soothed our frazzled edges.

Rio Casita we'll be back again. Thank you.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the kind words. It is nice to know that you felt welcome and relaxed for your stay, and soon Mother Nature will provide us with new growth for all of the plants along the river. It is a pleasure to know that so many of our guests like us enough to return. We look forward to seeing you in the future. Connie

We always love staying at Rio Casita!

  • 5 of 5

Realized we failed to write a review after our last stay. We have lost count of the times we have stayed at Rio Casita. We do not stay anywhere else when we come to Wimberley and we come at least twice a year and try to make it 3 times a year if we can. It is the perfect place to see wildlife--beautiful deer and wild turkeys. It is comfortable and we feel like it is our home away from home. Our dogs love it too. It is the perfect location--close enough to town for a run to the shops or meals out. The owner Connie has become like a friend to us and she is always extremely accommodating and pleasant. And did I mention fireflies...they come out most evenings and it is something we look forward to when we sit out on the back porch every evening. Also, the river is shallow--great for kids and dogs and for sitting out in lawn chairs with a cold drink and feet in the water. We are already looking forward to our upcoming vacation days in Wimberley!

Perfect place to stay with young kids!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I LOVED this house! The house itself is very nice and spotless. It has everything your everyday house would have. It is has nice furniture and is decorated very nicely.

The back porch is comfortable and cool, even in the dead heat of a Texas summer. The fenced back yard is perfect if you have little kids. They can play and run around without you having to worry about them making their way down to the river.

The river behind the house is shallow, which makes it perfect for small children. We have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. They loved being pulled around by us in their floats. We set up lounge chairs in the water and relaxed while the girls walked around and fed the fish bread and goldfish crackers. The bank at the river is completely shaded so its nice to get a break from the sun if you need it. If you walk down the river for just less than 5 minutes, it gets deep so you can float.

There is a lot of wildlife roaming around. We saw deer, turkeys, fire flies, and road runners. My girls thought that was really cool.

We plan on returning every summer from now on. I even told my husband I want to buy this house!

Wonderful Time as Usual!

  • 5 of 5

This was probably our 6th visit to Rio Casita and we already have it reserved again in late October. We love this house and the town of Wimberley. We now consider it our home away from home. It is the most relaxing and enjoyable place to stay and we always hate to leave and look forward to coming back. Wimberley is a great little town with nice little shops and good restaurants (be sure to eat at the Leaning Pear and Marco's). Everyone we have met when visiting here have been very friendly. We usually stay during the week, but if you include a weekend, the market days are a lot of fun, we have driven up and back the same day just for that. We bring our 2 dogs and they love running down to the river and back. We see deer and fire flies at night, and the occasional wild turkey. It does not get any better than this!

Notes:
Rio Casita gets its water from a well. From time to time there is an odor. It is not always present. A new water filtration system was installed in August of 2015 to try to eliminate the odor. It seems to be working. We want you to know that the water is safe. If you think this will bother you, please do not rent Rio Casita. As I said we have taken steps to eliminate this, but I will not guarantee that there will be no odor. Ground water contains both sulfur and iron, among other minerals, which can seasonally vary in concentration. Water systems may also contain varying amounts and types of harmless bacteria which consume these two mineral compounds producing a rotten egg type of odor. Flushing at the faucet until the odor disappears is the immediate remedy to this problem. Most of the time the odor occurs only in the hot water. In the Wimberley area, the EPA does not consider iron oxide or hydrogen sulfide gas dissolved in ground water as a risk.
