Wonderful castle dating back to the 12th century, restored in the 17th century by the noble family of Acciaioli, with a magnificent tower built on the model of the one of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Montegufoni castle is part of a large estate comprising vineyards and olive trees in the heart of Chianti region.
Distances from the villa: the small village of Montagnana V.P. with food shops 1 km, Montespertoli with all kinds of shops approx. 5 km, Florence 20 km, Pisa approx. 70 km.
A bus stop with busses to Florence, Montespertoli and Empoli is only a few meters from the castle away. Bikes and scooters for rent are available in Montespertoli.
At guests’ disposal: large and very charming terraced park furnished with garden furniture and table tennis, beautiful Italian gardens (dating back to the 18th century) with lemon trees and swimming-pool (12 x 6 m - open from 01/04 to 31/10). Reception open from 8.30 to 12.30 and from 14.30 to 18.30. The outbuildings of the castle as well were restored and turned into charming apartments. The castle is run by the Posarelli family. A nice restaurant offering nice recipes of the local Chianti tradition is open every night (from April to October except on Tuesdays). Laundry with shared washing-machine (€ 3,- / per washing). WI-FI internet connection available in the reception and restaurant area.

-- ACCOMMODATION DESCRIPTION
Nice apartment with access from the outside of the castle.
Mezzanine ground floor: living-room with dining area, kitchen corner and sofa-bed, double bedroom with fireplace (not working), passage-way twin-bedded room set in the ancient library of the castle, small bathroom with shower.
Great atmosphere. Great restaurant. A little cold in early April but lots of blankets. A wonderful experience. Thank you.
We had a really good time and the property we stayed in was excellent. The facilities were very good and a very nice relaxed atmosphere. Staying in the castle was a great experience however the sound proofing is not that great, however this is to be expected in such an old building - there are notices to keep volumes down between certain times 11pm - 8am.
Our biggest mistake was not preparing for Mosquitos...I would suggest that everyone going here buys a zapper before they go and plug in well before going to sleep...we made the silly mistake of letting a few in after our first night out and we suffered because of this for a few days.
Great weather, lots to do, many places to see - Siena is the best though in my opinion and only 45 mins away in a car.
One last thing, if you are going to rent a car, I would swerve trying to get a cheap deal and stick to a known company such as Europcar as you will incur many hidden charges and potentially not the car you ordered - a few people we met had the same issue.
With regards to the Villas / castle - highly recommended and great value for money...oh if you do go, when you come out of the resort, drive through Barccaiano, turn right and head along that road for about 3 minutes and you will find a lovely little restaurant on the right hand side - fantastic food and service!
The apartment is beautiful and we loved our time there. We found the apartment quite dark inside and a little cold in September with its stone floors. I would suggest more lighting and more floor rugs for this time of year.
The apartment was perfectly clean and a joy to stay in. Lovely being so close to Florence and yet have such lovely views. Giuseppe and Simona were the only people we meet really and they were both lovely, especially Simona who wanted to be helpful all the time and her collegue who ran the bar on Sundays.
