Overview

About the property

Rental of 85 sq. m. with two pretty bedrooms in a family environment

We host you in this small house, adjacent to our house, in a friendly environment in a small and pretty stone village. We wanted a semi-detached house because our society has been pushing people towards individualism for many years. At the era when the means of communication are booming, people have never been so isolated. There are no gatherings around the fire anymore, no more gatherings with the neighbours to sort out the beans and the peas. Everybody is stuck in front of a screen while eating or even worse, spending time on the Internet. We wanted to break this vicious circle, to find again a simple conviviality and to offer different holidays. It used to be an agricultural hangar that we turned into a house. The house was conceived to offer total freedom with an organized front terrace; a folding screen for your tranquillity, green plants and a Japanese garden that relaxes your eyes and your heart. Regarding the access, we are located less than 10 km away from the road to Alès-Nîmes. We are a 20-minute drive away from Alès and a 40-minute drive away from NÎmes. The first airport is located in Nîmes. There is another one in Montpellier, one-hour drive away. The nearest and most direct train station is in Nîmes. We are 1 hour away from the beach and 1 hour away from the mountain. Regarding practicality, the first stores are 2 km away: bakery, caterer, cigarette kiosk, and a drug store. The nearest market town is in Anduze where you can find Tourist Office, banks, etc. In Alès, there is a cinema, a theatre (national scene), big supermarkets, fast food restaurants, a hospital, and everything you may need. Regarding the surroundings, we are a five-minute walk away from a small lake, in the heart of a green oasis and calmness. Morning people can admire the fog clearing away in the leaves and the luckiest ones can observe our friends the beavers eating serenely the trunks of the poor trees, which try to survive from their small cute teeth. However, there are fortunately more trees than beavers! In the evening, you might be able to see the shepherd with his sheep and depending on the season, his baby lambs. For gourmet food lovers, our cooperative wine cellar, since we are in the middle of vineyards, offers wines from different grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Merlot or even Cabernet. You can also find specialities such as Cartagena and products of the territory. Every Friday afternoon there is a farmer’s market where you can get honey, jam, organic bread, homemade chocolate, basketry, soaps, and vegetables. Regarding activities, you will certainly not have the time or the energy to go through all the possibilities that you have in the region. There are wine cellar museums and castles from the XI century. You will discover our natural heritage through a visit to an arboretum with exceptional bonsais, a unique bamboo plantation in Europe, a small steam train winding through the Gardon Gorge.

Culturally it is very rich with its eco museums and the Water Resource Centre, which will tell you the story of Cevennes: spinning, fish farming, and cultivation of chestnuts with the famous drying rooms (clèdes) that we see in many of our houses. Anduze and its region which were marked by religious wars are full of evidence of the disastrous past, one if which is the famous Desert Museum that you must visit. During wars, many Camisards hid in caves and holes because our geology is calcareous. Some of the caves can be visited. It is impressive to take the paths that are reserved to speleologists and take you to guts that are tight but so beautiful! For those you enjoy white-water sports, you can go aquatic trekking or canyoning near Lozère. Several via ferrata are set for the greatest pleasure of the eyes and strong emotions. You can go for a walk in the local markets; in Anduze on Thursday morning; in Sommières and Uzès on Saturday morning. The market in Uzès is particularly charming with its spices and spring colours. The only risk you can have at home is to share nice and simple moments around a grilled sausage on the plancha grill while the children are playing together. In the garden, there is a swimming pool, a big trampoline, a swing, a hut at the back of the garden, a cedar tree where you can come up with great games, and a big paved yard where even the small children can play without risk. To sum up, you can spend great holidays!

About Marc Domingues da Costa

My husband Marc and I met at a car breakdown. There was a storm, I was soaked and I was going to the community centre to look for help. Marc was drinking coffee. It was the beginning of a great adventure. He was constructing his house and I was reforming mine. We wanted to construct houses. We finished constructing his house; we finished mine. Well, in 10 years we have made 3 houses, 3 stalls for horses, and 5 children! We do everything on our own, from the walls to the floor and all the woodwork; nothing stops us and nothing scares us. My husband is a water engineer and he speaks English and Polish. I have a master’s degree in hotel engineering and I speak English and Spanish. For now, I am a full time mother! We love nature, music, and masonry. We live simply. We love animals; we have 4 ponies with which we organise horse riding for the children. Marc loves riding his motorcycle and I (Laure) love horse riding. We advocate a way of living based on tolerance and respect. However, we do not tolerate snobbish people or nit-picking ones.

Why Marc Domingues da Costa chose Anduze - Cevennes Piemont

This property belonged to my grandparents who were winegrowers. When I got here, the house was in ruins. I felt that my roots were here. During the years, we have transformed it, improved it and one day we decided to construct this house because we love hosting people and sharing privileged moments with them. I particularly like this place because we feel positive energy and the surroundings are a synonym of freedom. I am protestant and very attached to the history of my land. My husband and I like showing to our guests what we like, sharing calm moments, a walk or a cup of tea.

What makes this cottage unique

What could I add that I have not mentioned yet? The house is equipped with new linen: bedclothes, mattresses and bed bases are brand new in both bedrooms. The garden is pleasant with different tones of green and red from the ivy leaves in autumn. I am sure that this place will allow our clients to recharge their batteries and relax. We work with a spa to organise relaxing weekends with massages in a swimming pool, reiki techniques among others.
