About Judy Schuman

I'm a woman of a certain age who moved here from LA where I lived in a canyon so I never saw a sunset or the light at the end of the day. I built on a property that overlooks the ocean and shore, with wondrous sunsets every night. I like to grow things, so have planted all sorts of fruit trees, flowers and vegetables, which I share with guests (as well as with an occasional wild pig) and also sell at the farmers markets. I enjoy meeting people from all over both at the markets and the rental..

Why Judy Schuman chose Kona Coast

For the above reasons. I live on the property in a separate structure, so the rental is quite private. The closest house to this property is about 100' away.

Because I am on the property, I act as a sort of concierge, with tips and suggestions.

What makes this apartment unique

I bought this land and built to take advantage of the vast ocean views and since there is a protected dryland forest just below the property, no one can ever build there. Being at the end of the road, there is no traffic and the noisiest thing is the morning birds. Because I like open spaces, I didn't put in a wall to make this a one bedroom apartment so there is about 700' square feet of space. Looking out from the bedroom, living and dining areas there are wonderful ocean views. There is also a private garden for hanging out.

Excellent Location!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 5 nites early November 07 and the location was ideal. Only about 10 minutes from the aiport with little, if any, traffic to contend with. Costco is nearby and Kona with its' Ali'i drive is quite close.

The house is kept immaculate and the location is very quiet. We enjoyed sleeping in and then heading out to Ali'i drive or to other good nearby snorkeling beaches.

Judy, the owner, also stocks quite a number of beach items like Boggie boards, coolers, picnic baskets, etc. and she knows the island well.

The Stadium cinema next to K-mart is also about 10 minutes away. Of course we reserved the movies for after dark when you cannot swim nor can you see any of the beauty of Hawaii after sunset.

I recommend this place for anyone wishing to spend some time in Kona.

Great view, Peace and .Quiet

  • 5 of 5

Judy is a great host and the apartment, which is compleatley separate from the main house, is fully equipped. Bath robes, outdoor grill, coffee maker, full fridge, veranda, very comy bed, rolling cooler, snorkeling equipment, beach towels and a welcome basket with some of Judy's home grown fruit. There was everything we needed. Watch the birds in the morning or sunset in the evening, there is no other property between you and the coastline. Higher elevations for comfortable sleeping tempatures. Ten minutes by the upper road into Kona town and you will avoid the work they are doing on the Queen K Highway. Will definitely return and recommend to others.

Excellent Accomodation

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic accommodation away from the main tourist area, however an easy drive to the centre for restaurants, bars etc. We loved the quiet relaxing atmosphere, great balcony for dinning and watching the sunset. We never had any problem with the heat as the studio is located on a higher elevation than the town and therefore offers cooler temperatures for sleeping. Judy is a wonderful host, she respects her guests privacy and will offer helpful tips and advise whenever asked. The studio is well represented by the photos in the VRBO add. Lots of room for a couple. The kitchen was well stocked and the barbeque worked well we would not hesitate to recommend.

On a scale of 5, this little bit of paradise was a 6! It was away from the noisy tourist areas, very quiet and totally relaxing. It is situated within five minutes of the airport and there is such easy access to everything we wanted to do. Judy was so helpful in advising us on every question we had. The property was very clean and well maintained and we were greeted with a large basket of fruit and there were gorgeous exotic flowers in the apartment, all grown by Judy. The listing was very descript and accurate and there were even more amenities than we expected from the advertising. We have already spread the word of this wonderful retreat. If you want a romantic getaway, this is the place! We went to several beaches (you do need a car), horseback riding in Waipio Valley, the botanical gardens (beautiful and worth the trip), grilled out nightly as we watched the Pacific Ocean, dined at the Harbor Grill (fabulous food) for lunch, and enjoyed spotting wild animals all over the island daily. We were so well taken care of here and the studio is very well appointed with anything you need. We highly recommend it!

Excellent: very quiet, comfortable room, balcony with a great view

  • 5 of 5

This property is great, because

- it is a very quiet location with a great view over green slopes to the pacific ocean

- you are close enough to Kona and places to stock up your supplies

- the condo is fully equipped with everything you need, even snorkeling and beach items

- you can enjoy the surrounding nature from your private balcony

- there is Judy, the owner who gave us many useful hints

- and we had a great evening with Judy exchanging experiences about wild animals in her garden and Africa.

Good for 2 peoples, but a car is essential.

We stayed for 5 nights and always enjoyed our poke tuna on the balcony instead of spending our money in Kona restaurants.

Convinient Location

  • 5 of 5

This property is very conveniently

located near Kona airport and downtown Kona with its

restaurants, shopping and Costco with the cheapest gas on the island.

The best beaches of Kohala coast are just 40-50 min away,

but you can always find a great beach much closer near Kona. If you are a

beginner at snorkeling, you’ll appreciate the proximity of Kahaluu Beach Park and

its abundant marine life.

The house is stocked with anything

you may need for a great beach experience including

snorkeling gear, water shoes (this is a must on the many rocky beaches), towels and

so on. It sits up

on the mountain slope so you can enjoy a fresh and cool

breeze and sleep comfortably

without AC no matter how hot it is down in the city. We

especially enjoyed the beautiful Hawaiian sunsets and the luscious garden that can be seen from inside of the house or from the lanai. The place is great for two persons, but it also worked well for the three of us.

Judy, the owner, is a great hostess. She knows the island very well and is always glad to share her knowledge with her guests. We've received a warm welcome from her on our arrival: a basket full of fruits and coffee from her garden, homemade bread and fresh flowers. Judy also baked her special pesto bread for us on our departure!

Keep in mind that the Hawaiian law does not allow you to bring in fruits, seeds and so on from the mainland; it is also unfortunate that most of the delicious fresh fruits you try in Hawaii cannot be brought back home from the islands.
