Long-term fall/winter rental welcome. We are happy to share the history of our family home and advice about Cape Ann.
We are a family of three sisters who inherited this beautiful home from our parents. Faer Sith House has been in our family since 1926 and is where our father grew up. We made wonderful memories coming here each summer here as children and now three generations of our family and dogs all enjoy Faer Sith every year! We hope you will love our home as much as we do and will make your own special memories here too.
Penny Catterall purchased this house in 1926
Faer Sith House was built in 1908 by General George Alexander Forsyth and our family is only the second owner of the property. Faer Sith, named by General Forsyth, means both ''beautiful site" in Welsh and also is a play on the General's last name. It is indeed a beautiful site. Set on a hill overlooking lovely gardens and serene woods, the house is filled with beautiful antiques, old books and photographs, and a wonderful collection of fine landscape and portrait paintings by our grandfather Wallace Bryant, who was a well known artist in the late 1800's. However, the house also has the latest in 21st century amenities, including new and comfortable beds and furniture, modern appliances, wireless internet, flat screen TV, and more, making it a unique and very special place for a family vacation.
From the gorgeous and expansive gardens, to the relaxing front porch where you can enjoy your coffee and the best home made donuts on Cape Ann (from Brother's Brew in Rockport) or cocktails in the evening, to the wonderful old books, family antiques, and jars of local sea glass, Faer Sith House is a place unlike any other. There are woodlands and great rocks for children to explore and climb, a tree swing to enjoy, a comfortable double hammock to relax in, a quiet little cove beach for hunting sea glass just a 5 minute walk away, vistas everywhere you look and always a serene feeling that you have left the real world completely behind you.
Some friends and I recently rented this house for a wedding weekend in town.
The house is beautiful and interesting, is convenient to town, and the owners were a pleasure to deal with.
If you're staying in the area, you should certainly try to rent here.
We couldn't be happier with our renting experience.
With our grown children living around the world, we were looking for a holiday rental close to an international airport, that could accommodate 8 adults comfortably and that was located in a cute New England town. What a great find - this charming house was located just a short 10 minute walk to downtown Rockport with Logan Airport less than 1 hour south. The house is large with lots of room to spread out. Large bedrooms with lots of windows. All amenities in the kitchen for cooking everything from breakfast to lobster dinners. Large dining room to eat, sit and talk. Two living rooms to watch tv or work on puzzles/play games. Large porch, and since the weather was unseasonably warm we actually sat outside the first few days. So many great pictures hanging on the walls, it felt more like a home than a rental. Owners were quick to respond to all questions and requests. Plus, Rockport is a great town, dog friendly and close to Gloucester, where there are more restaurants open during the christmas holiday; although Rockport does a nice New Year's Eve celebration. Can't wait to return!
We loved our stay at this beautiful house. We rented for a family thanksgiving & could not be happier. Penny & Dave were available for questions but also provided privacy for our stay. We had coffee on the covered porch each morning- in November! The kitchen is spacious and was roomie enough for us to cook together without knocking elbows. We brought a few utensils we knew we needed but found everything to cook with in the kitchen. Each bedroom is sunlit and spacious, with pictuesque views of New England. The bathrooms were great. We played croquette and board games from the game room. We kept a fire going- couldn't have been a more perfect Thanksgiving. Rockport town center is a couple blocks away. There is a scenic cliff walk close by & we ran the Salem 5 mile Turkey Trot thanksgiving morning. The house is also decorated with historical relics and beautiful paintings. We had fun learning about the house's history. Wild turkeys visited the yard daily. We loved our stay at this estate.
Our family convened at Faer Sith for our daughter's fall wedding at Moraine Farm in Beverly on October 24th. The setting and grounds of this lovely property was perfect in every way. Our daughter and bridal party stayed at nearby B&B, within walking distance of Faer Sith. We all loved the charm and ambience afforded by a home that has been loved and well cared for over the past century. Our three grandchildren loved to explore the games in the sunroom, the rocks on the grounds, the wild turkeys waddling across the lawn, and the tree swing. We all enjoyed a beautiful autumn walk along neighboring Marmion Way and on our last night, pizza delivery from Atlantic Pizza---delicious! We hosted a catered brunch the day after the wedding, which continued into the early afternoon as guests lingered on the porch. The customer service is excellent, with prompt responses from Debbie, Penny, and Alexi from beginning to end of the inquiry and planning process, including an interior tour to help us plan our family logistics. We all agreed it was a magical experience to enter a past era and dwell in a refined and spacious home replete with beautiful antiques and historical memorabilia---a significant enhancement of the wedding weekend!
We had an amazing time staying at this beautiful home. The house was even more spectacular that we imagined. The property was well kept, and had every amentity we could ask for. We had fun exploring the areas beaches and restaurants, but also enjoyed relaxing at the house. The owner was easy to work with, and left us a lot of great tips for the area, which we certainly took advantage of. I would recommend this home highly, and hope to be back! It was just perfect!
We had the wonderful opportunity to stay, or shall I say “live” at Faer Sith during the Fall Foliage season. It was exciting to know that we were staying in a 100 year old house. We had an amazing time getting acquainted with the house such as reading the books on the bookshelves, admiring the art on the walls, to feeling at home in the kitchen, sitting in front of the fireplace while watching movies in the TV room, or being goofy and playing outside with our son in the gardens or swinging in the tree. The house possesses unbelievable culture, photographs, and memorabilia that truly gives’ the residence a home feel.
The house is located in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of the beaches and downtown Rockport. The town of Rockport is amazing and welcoming during September and October. We went to Harvest Festivals, pumpkin patches, apple orchards, and took our son trick-or-treating on Halloween night. We had a blast!
It was heaven watching the leaves change colors and they looked glorious! We would sit on the porch or inside the living room and admire the colors with the ocean in the background, it was picturesque. We loved spending time at Faer Sith and enjoyed the many luxuries of the house. We had the time of our lives in Rockport and we absolutely love it!
When one gets to the end of their vacation, they may feel like there’s no place like home; however, not us; we always felt at home. We thank Debbie for sharing her home with us and we look forward to returning back to Faer Sith.
