About Penny Catterall
We are a family of three sisters who inherited this beautiful home from our parents. Faer Sith House has been in our family since 1926 and is where our father grew up. We made wonderful memories coming here each summer here as children and now three generations of our family and dogs all enjoy Faer Sith every year! We hope you will love our home as much as we do and will make your own special memories here too.
Penny Catterall purchased this House in 1926
Why Penny Catterall chose Rockport
Faer Sith House was built in 1908 by General George Alexander Forsyth and our family is only the second owner of the property. Faer Sith, named by General Forsyth, means both ''beautiful site" in Welsh and also is a play on the General's last name. It is indeed a beautiful site. Set on a hill overlooking lovely gardens and serene woods, the house is filled with beautiful antiques, old books and photographs, and a wonderful collection of fine landscape and portrait paintings by our grandfather Wallace Bryant, who was a well known artist in the late 1800's. However, the house also has the latest in 21st century amenities, including a new kitchen and comfortable beds and furniture, modern appliances, wireless internet, flat screen TVs, and more, making it a unique and very special place for a family vacation.
What makes this House unique
From the gorgeous and expansive gardens, to the relaxing front porch where you can enjoy your coffee and the best home made donuts on Cape Ann (from Brother's Brew in Rockport) or cocktails in the evening, to the wonderful old books, family antiques, and jars of local sea glass, Faer Sith House is a place unlike any other. There are woodlands and great rocks for children to explore and climb, a tree swing to enjoy, a comfortable double hammock to relax in, a quiet little cove beach for hunting sea glass just a 5 minute walk away, vistas everywhere you look and always a serene feeling that you have left the real world completely behind you.

Wonderful house, great experience
Some friends and I recently rented this house for a wedding weekend in town.
The house is beautiful and interesting, is convenient to town, and the owners were a pleasure to deal with.
If you're staying in the area, you should certainly try to rent here.
We couldn't be happier with our renting experience.
A wonderful home!
The photos of the home, while accurate, really don't do it justice. I'm not sure how a house can manage to feel both spacious and cozy at the same time, but this one does. Every room is utterly charming, filled with wonderful old books, paintings, and memorabilia. We visited in the fall, and made great use of the two working wood-burning fireplaces. The one "modern" room in the house was the beautiful kitchen, which had absolutely everything you could possibly need to make and serve a large Thanksgiving dinner in the gorgeous dining room. The location--within walking distance of the ocean and the town center--is perfect, and we enjoyed our daily viewings of turkeys wandering through the yard!
Penny could not have been more friendly and helpful as I was making the arrangements for our stay. We were so grateful to have had the chance to stay in such a beautiful, comfortable, and well-loved historic home, and hope we'll have a chance to return.
Wonderful home! Great stay!
We absolutely loved our stay at this lovely home! We recently rented the house for our family for our wedding in late September that was up on the North Shore - it was the perfect choice! The house had everything we could ever need, was incredibly spacious, and was the perfect place to make these memories. The ladies all got ready the day of the wedding at the house and it was the perfect spot for hair and makeup along with pre-wedding photography and videography! We also hosted a small brunch the day after the wedding and there was plenty of room for our guests to sit and eat comfortably. We definitely recommend and would love to stay again!
Incredible home!! Thank you for sharing it!
We just came back home from our stay and I'm already thinking about booking again! It's that good! Plenty of room to stretch out, every room is so comfortable and the kitchen is fantastic! I loved trying to figure out how the home had changed over the years. Location is fantastic too, very quiet and peaceful! The owners and the caretaker were very responsive with a minor door handle issue we experienced. It's an honor to be able to stay at this home, so much history and family memorabilia. Absolutely perfect!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We love our family home and are so happy when others see its beauty and history as well!
Idyllic setting layered with family history
Wow; what a spectacular house where we hosted family & friends during the week of my daughters wedding in Gloucester. Warm and comfortable where one could feel the generations of family history and imagine of the times that they enjoyed in this house. We will also have memories of our time that will last for decades. Great new kitchen, stately dining room and well groomed grounds & many beautiful perennials. I could spend days on the front porch.
Thanks so much! We are so pleased when we are able to share our family home with those who appreciate its history and beauty!
