Tiger House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Enjoy this original '50's cottage and boathouse that have been completely renovated during the 2005-06 seasons. Shangri-La has over 550 feet of private lake front and situated on a 3 acre lot. Sit on the boathouse or lounge in the hammock and listen to the soothing sound of a gentle stream. Dive off the boathouse or take a relaxing swim beside the floating dock. Explore the lake with 4 kayaks or take a lazy canoe ride. Enjoy the 'nooks & crannies' of this magnificent clear water lake---this home has it all.

The house will sleep six comfortably and add two more on a queen size platform Aero bed provided. From the Master Bedroom take your morning coffee across the level 20 foot catwalk and watch the lake come to life from the boathouse sun deck. While there, enjoy your MP3 music through a four speaker Bose sound system. This is a recommended way to start your day on Lake Burton.

While the adults are enjoying the sun porch with lake views, the children can either swim off the dock, romp and play on 'the Lilly Pad' or watch TV & DVD's in the den---the swim dock has a 'special concrete walk down floor' that is a gradual entrance into the lake (perfect for toddlers.) The kitchen is fully equipped, you can cook and look at the lake here too. If you like to grill, use either/or Weber charcoal & the gas grill on the boathouse. This boathouse sun deck offers over 1200 square feet (one of the largest on Lake Burton)----perfect for entertaining, dining, sunning, etc. It comes fully equipped with refrigerator, ice maker, 30 feet of custom cabinets, and special twi-light custom lighting. In 2012, special high intensity LED underwater lighting (blue) has been installed around the love to jump into the blue lagoon'!! At the end of the day, enjoy your own private outdoor hot & cold water shower (equipped with its own private changing area.) No need to leave the lake for indoor 'primping' -- this is lake burton!

The house is at the end of a two house private driveway (no road noise or dust at this location.) Additionally, it offers a generous amount of level parking (7+ vehicles) and only 20 feet from the water! Bring your power boats and jet skis--the boathouse will stow (1) one boat under cover and the docks will tie-off many additional boats water toys. This home is ready for fun, frolic, & lots of relaxation. Most of all, enjoy the new lifetime memories your family & friends will have--just like the last 55 years for its owners.

About David Dyer

Steph and I (David) have lived in Rabun County for over 18 years. We grew up together as children on Lake Burton - what a terrific place to meet your future bride! We are retired, but work part time with a therapeutic wilderness program for troubled teens. I do a bit of radio broadcasting for our Rabun County Wildcats (football & basketball.) We feel so fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful areas of our country. We look forward to meeting you and sharing this beautiful area with you and your family.

David Dyer purchased this house in 1958

Why David Dyer chose North Georgia Mountains

How lucky for us....We didn't have to purchase our vacation home. Lake Burton is where Steph and I spent summers as children growing up. We were both teenagers and met on the lake. Steph's parents had a summer cabin on one end of Lake Burton -- my family had one on the other end. We sort of met in the middle.

What makes this house unique

There are many unique features about this lake cabin. First of all, this was one of the early cabins built on Lake Burton. Therefore, the location and size of the lot are nearly perfect--550 feet of lake front, private cove, and lots of level parking. The house and boat house were completely remodeled 4 years ago. Now you can enjoy the cozy cabin -- with all the ammenities for your comfort and pleasure!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely cottage with us. It was sooo comfortable! Even with the bad weather...we enjoyed sitting under the boathouse covered deck listening to the sounds of silence. Just perfect!

David, words can not express how special you made our trip--a true "Shangri-La experience". Your attention to every detail made our vacation most memorable---a true 5 star experience!

A slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have brought the family to Shangri-La for 6 straight years. Our first experience with the house was 7 years ago when my hubby and I had a weekend get away for my birthday. We were so enchanted we had to bring the family back! It has become our little slice of Heaven. The house is perfect! David and Steph have spoiled us with everything. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could imagine to make a family of 9 a meal. There are plenty of towels in the bathrooms/kitchen. My kids look forward to the bowls of candy each year and I look forward to the bottle of wine, cake and the special "goodie" that is always left with a handwritten note to enjoy our stay! The views are stunning! The fact that I can park my car right out front and walk into the house is a HUGE plus. I don't have to lug my bags down a million steps to the lake house. The house is then connected to a beautiful dock complete with a Keurig, refrigerator, gas and charcoal grills. I spend all my morings with a cup of coffee enjoying the tranquility that is Shangri-La. There aren't enough words to describe how amazing this place is! You must check it out for yourself! Highly recommend!

Great place for us to celebrate a special occasion.

  • 5 of 5

Our nephew rented this house for a family celebration and it was a great place. First off the owners had a bottle of wine, a cake and a monogrammed apron waiting for my nephew and wife. Everything we could need was there. The kitchen and house was stocked better than many others high end rentals we have had on the ocean. Makes a big difference when you really have to cook in. The pontoon rented from the owner was perfect and a must have on this beautiful lake. You just can't enjoy this lake without a boat and the pontoon allows all to go out together. We spent many hours on top of the boat house sunning, reading in the shade, coffee in the am and dinner at sunset. Also loved the platform dock and the Lilly pad to swim to and sun or just hang on. So many places on the property to enjoy. The lovely flowered patio to sit and enjoy the decorative fire accent piece or sit around a wood burning fire pit. Next walk down the path towards the water with a lovely stream flowing towards the lake with a hammock and two person swing at different points along the way. Only thing is I wish it had a fourth bedroom and one more bath to bring my whole family back. This is a great place with owners who care.

We have chosen David's perfect lake house for our family vacation 3 years in a row! This place is perfect for young children, the lilypad and access to the lake are great for less experienced swimmers. The boathouse is wonderful with a large deck and fridge it makes relaxing easy. I love this home...A+ on everything!

WOW, WOW, WOW !!! Loved this vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Best Vacation Ever ! Our group of 2 adults and 3 teenagers had a blast at this fabulous lakefront home. From the moment we arrived we knew this was a special place. The home owners had prepared a home made cake, had custom embroidered gifts and a bottle of wine for us -- we were beyoond pleasantly surprised - how great as that! The home is private and is right on the lake. The dock, swim deck, and double decker boat house was incredible. The kids spent the 1st hour just exporing the property and amenities. We all enjoyed the cool crisp deep water of the lake; no yucky stuff for your feet or legs to touch. The kayaks and canoe (all included with the home rental) allowed us to explore the lake and wave to lots of friendly neighbors. The Lily Pad was a favor spot for my sister and I to relax and stay cool while soaking up the sun! We did our grocery shopping in town (about 20 mins from house) at Ingles - a great store, and pretty much cooked all meals at home -- this place was so fabulous we didn't want to leave for meals! The grill on the entertainment deck of the boat house was fully equiped with propane and worked like a charm. The kitchen in the home was fully stocked with everything you could need. Firepit outside was great and a gas fireplace in the kitchen makes it super cozy if you get a chilly night. Being from Florida, we were so excited by the cool mornings and evenings - and even though we stayed in June and the days were hot, because your in the mountains there was NO humidity and so it was really pleasant. This was our first time at Lake Burton and we can't wait to return - highly recommend this special property, it was heaven and we did not want to leave!

Perfect family vacation from frequent 5 star travelers...

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (wife & 2 daughters ages 9 & 6) had the pleasure of staying at the Shangri-La for a second time in 3 years (2013) and it proved once again to be outstanding. It's the intangibles that impress me the most from Dave and Steph. From the embroidered towel (name spelled correctly!), wine and cake upon arrival to the vast assortment of cooking utensils & pottery, soft towels and linens, cleanliness and and even the toilet paper. Who invests in high quality toilet paper for rental properties??? It goes without saying, the boathouse, to me, is the gem. We played 'Uno' every evening, ate all of our meals, listened to great music, drank Champagne & wine and just enjoyed the best view of the lake during the daylight hours and plentiful stars at night on the boathouse deck. In 2013 both my daughters were a bit too scared to take advantage of swimming in the beautiful water (they are accustomed to clear beaches on the Gulf Coast), playing on the Lilly-pad or paddle sports. I couldn't get them out of the water this year. Due to the rising cost of insurance, and I completely understand, the pontoon is no longer an option but the Laprades Marina is a short 10 minute drive around the dam, bait shop and up the West side of the lake. The rental options are a plenty and very affordable and not to mention, the food at the restaurant is outstanding. We rented a 21' pontoon, the girls found a deflated tube in the laundry room and we spent 2 full days on the water exploring and throwing the girls off the tube much to their delight. That was their 'favorite' thing as told to Mr. Dave when he arrived on our last full day to say hello. This year we took a side trip to Tallulah Gorge State Park and enjoyed the falls (and over 1000 vertical steps), previous we hiked in the near by state parks. At least twice a year my wife and I travel to the Caribbean in the Spring and northeast or Colorado in the fall, Shangri-La has quickly ascended to one of my top destinations, yes, even with kids. Hats off to Dave and Stephanie. The only downside this year is that we didn't catch nearly as many bass as in 2013...

Everything we wanted and SO much more!

  • 5 of 5

We (my husband, teenage son, son's friend, and I) stayed here for a few days almost one week ago on a last minute get away. We cannot say enough wonderful things! Shangri-La is everything the pictures and descriptions say and SO much more. From the moment we stepped in the cabin, it felt like home and we knew we were in for a fantastic few days. Our only regret, of which we were fully aware, is that the water was still a bit too cold to enjoy. Nonetheless, we still took advantage of the serenity of the cabin, views from the boathouse, canoe and kayaks, downtown Clayton, as well a all the hiking opportunities in the area.

The owners made themselves available for any silly questions (we had a few) or concerns (there were non) we had. In addition, it was a pleasure to meet him in person and hear a little first hand history about the town, the cabin and its lovely owners.

Thank you so very much, David, for an amazing weekend and for sharing some time with us. We look forward to staying here again. Natalie C.
