Beautiful, remote, accommodating, warm, relaxing........ the list goes on. We enjoyed every minute of our stay! The cost was a great value with the amenities of this property. The owner is great to work with. We highly recommend this property for one night or even a week away from reality!!

Beautiful Cabin, Beautiful Country

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with our adult children for a week to view the solar eclipse, explore the area, and reconnect as a family.

Cabin: Nicely designed to encourage family togetherness with a huge covered front porch that acts as a second outdoor living area. All interior walls/ceilings/doors are made of knotty pine. The rustic cabin theme is carried throughout with deer lamps, homemade quilts, log furniture, Indian art, and vintage/antique items. All modern conveniences provided; plenty of hot water, comfy beds, good internet, and cable TV, lots of towels, AC, LAN line, (mobile phones do not work), full-size washer/dryer. The kitchen is very well stocked with quality pans, (even a huge stock pot/corn pot), casseroles, baking sheets, small appliances, cooking implements, food storage containers, colander, cutting board, dishes and cutlery, dish towels, cloths, and pot holders .... everything you need for big family meals. The large hot tub was of excellent quality and especially nice after a long day of hiking, exploring. The property includes a very nice well-situated fire pit which was perfect for evening gatherings.

Setting: Remote. Peaceful. Private. Serene. The cabin is perched on the side of a steep mountain far above the road below. The driveway is paved so had no issues driving up with either a 4 wheel drive SUV or an ordinary sedan. At the bottom of the driveway, across the gravel road, there is a beautiful creek that flows with cold mountain water. You can hear that creek even up to the cabin, the sounds mixed with the wind through the trees. I doubt 3 vehicles travel that gravel road daily. We had no run-ins with critters or varmints. We had an opportunity to meet the local mountain residents; very nice and welcoming. This property has a smaller cabin located further down the mountain.... except for meeting at a social gathering we had no idea anyone was there.

To Do: DON"T MISS boating on Lake Santeetlah. Being from Florida I'm amazed that a lake of such size and beauty could be nearly deserted on a summer day.

Cons: None at all. Renters should be aware that this cabin is truly remote with a very curvy 30-minute drive to Robbinsville, (we enjoyed the beauty). You are also responsible for hauling out your trash to a community dumpster in Robbinsville, not a huge deal if you go into town every few days. As mentioned before the lot is very steep ... our morning/evening strolls were taken on the gravel road, along the stream.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We came to Nantahala to enjoy the early spring and show our kids that nature is the most beautiful from a closer perspective :).

We had a wonderful time in the lodge, it's very cozy, clean, well equipped and has a great vibe. We loved it so much that we're already planning our trip back. Also, the location is amazing - remote but not too remote and close to many beautiful hikes, e.g. Joyce Kilmer Forest, Snowbird Mountains.

Thank you Brad!

Comfortable, private and dog-friendly, too!

  • 4 of 5

My family rented The Lodge during the last week of September 2016. We were a group of 3 adults plus my adult son and his friend joined us for part of the time. There was plenty of room for all of us PLUS my two dogs. The furniture is very comfortable & so are the beds - plenty of seating for all. The kitchen is well-stocked and I did not want for anything. The owners leave lots of pantry staples, spices, etc. from previous guests which helps save on cost when buying groceries. We allowed our dogs to roam freely around the property as they don't go too far. It was never a problem and the HUGE and very comfortable front porch was our absolute FAVORITE place to gather and hang out - including the dogs. We used the firepit several nights and had plenty of wood from previous guests. The only improvements needed for a 5 star review would be to improve the speed of the Internet - uploading large files was very slow; better ant control in the kitchen -it was not a big deal, but most mornings we had a trail of tiny unwanted guests crawling around the kitchen sink and counter; lack of a private bath for the king bedroom downstairs - although the hall bath is right across the hallway - but it is shared with the other bedroom and the main living area; upstairs queen bedroom is shown in pictures with a TV, so we assumed it had cable like the one downstairs, but that is not true. It can only be used to play DVDs. The only other thing that we could count as a negative would be the fact that there is another cabin on the 21 acre property. You are not all alone in the middle of 21 acres. Below The Lodge there is a cabin, but the entire time we were there we never saw anyone except the owners - we did hear the other guests the first night when we arrived, but after that all we heard at night were the crickets. It was peaceful and relaxing and I would certainly stay there again!

Owner's Response: We are sorry to hear that one of our guests had less than a perfect stay at our cabin. The ants are all gone. We were aware of the ants (tiny sugar ants) just prior to this booking and we had treated them but it take a few days for the treatment to destroy the whole colony. There are just the two log cabins on the whole 21 acres, there is a distance of at least 600 feet as the crow flies (which they do here) and this is always disclosed when asked. The cabins are remote and we feel blessed to have a DSL internet line which is usually adequate unless trying to receive or send large files. If a super fast internet is required then please ask us first and we are happy to recommend other properties not so remote. Even with our less than stellar review, we hope this guest returns.

Amazing Quiet Mountain Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The lodge was perfect for our Girl's Weekend Away! Each of us had our own room and plenty of space to stretch out and relax. We left behind our busy lives and drove up the windy road to find this quiet retreat in a private, peaceful setting. You feel like you are all alone on the hill! The beds were comfortable, the fire was very nice and heated up quickly, hot tub was wonderful and the kitchen had everything we needed. Ginger's cookies were delicious and Brad was wonderful to help us get the hot tub up and running in just a few minutes over the phone. ATVs would have been great to have as there are many trails and logging paths to explore. Less than a half hour scenic drive takes you to Topoco at the bottom of the Dragon's Tail if you want a bit of socializing (we went to watch a football game at the grill and had an "unforgettable" time with some locals!) The fall colors were amazing for mid-October.

Our favorite place to be (besides the hot tub!) was the front porch. Sunrise and moonrise, it was beautiful. The fire pit was also nice. Groceries can be gotten at the Ingles in Robbinsville before you head up the road to the lodge - it is not a quick trip, but you are in the country and the mountains after all!

Highly recommended if you need a relaxing, spacious, isolated getaway for a small group of adults or a family or two. Had a wonderful time and hope to visit again!
