About Kathy

I grew up hiking with my family around Mt. Rainier as a young girl and fell in love with the mountain and all it has to offer. I have been a business owner in Washington State since 1997. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Interior Architecture. I have two grown boys and four rescue puppies.

Kathy purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Kathy chose Mount Rainier

I fell in love with the area, the serenity of the woods and living close to Mt. Rainier.

What makes this cabin unique

The sound of the small brook that runs through the back of the property helps soothe away tensions and stress.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time hanging out and relaxing. Thank you so much for sharing your cozy and comfortable cabin with our family, it is very warm and inviting. Our kids loved the loft and enjoyed the movie selection. We will be back!

Serenity in the Woods

Cozy, cute and charming! The hot tub off the back porch is perfectly hidden in the trees, I could have happily stayed there the whole trip. The bed was exemplary and the furniture and decor immaculate. Hit a couple of local hikes, all had amazing views, then went into town just a short drive away for some good old fashioned home cooking at Copper Creek.. My boyfriend and I came here for a getaway last week and could not have been happier with the experience. The owner is very responsive and a wonderful person to work with. All the amenities available and at a good price, I highly recommend

What a wonderful little slice of heaven. This cabin was absolutely adorable and very clean. Everything you could possibly need was provided by the owner, Kathy. My husband and I have stayed at Kathy's cabin several times and have never ever been disappointed. The location was great for day trips to Mt Rainier National Park. On some days we have just enjoyed staying at the cabin and relaxing. Kathy has gone out of her way to decorate the cabin and provide everything for a comfortable stay. I was saddened when I saw a review that someone complained about bugs and they complained that the cabin was dirty. As I stated we have rented this cabin many times. Guess what? Newsflash......There's going to be bugs, bugs live outside, even at cabins! There were NO bugs in the cabin. Most of us have bugs at our own homes! As for the cabin being filthy....NEVER!!!! It's always been immaculate. Just goes to show you some people are never happy and must blame others for their shortcomings. I highly recommend this little slice of heaven! Oh and don't forget to enjoy the hot tub, the night sky was gorgeous from the tub. Thank you so very much for sharing your cabin with us. We will continue to book this property!!!

Don't be fooled

This place is nothing like the photos or description. We were shocked when we saw such a dumpy place tucked in between other houses. We were welcomed by a fly catcher (bag of hundreds of black flies) in front porch attached to a plastic chair. For god sake, who would do that? The smell was making my sister sick. The rate for this place is ridiculous and the owner would not refund us a penny and charged us for both nights as well as extra people alhough we left the place immediately and had to find another place in packwood.

Cute, clean, with a great location

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here and will probably try to book this same place when we come back in a few years.

Just a few FYI's:

Over all the cabin is nice with really cute decor.

The hot tub was great, perfect little back yard facing the woods to enjoy it in. There are neighbors on either side, but the way the back yard sits, you can't really tell- it faces the Forrest with a creek below, so there's a constant relaxing sound of water.

The bed in the single bedroom is REALLY soft, nice sheets and very soft mattress... which was too soft for me; I had to move to the bed (mattress on floor) in the loft. Just a heads up that if you're not into super soft, or have back problems, you may need to make the bed in the loft & sleep there.

The mattress on the bed in the larger of the 2 pull out couch beds wasn't in great shape- I couldn't have slept on it as I could feel the springs, but my girls slept there without complaint. We didn't use the other pull out bed, so I can't comment on it.

The bathroom is really small & shower head is low (approx 4' from bottom of tub). But the kitchen and main room have plenty of space, so we just adjusted out routines accordingly (brush teeth in kitchen, store toiletries on large table in front room).

I did find the note soliciting a tip for "housekeeping" off putting because this isn't an extra service we received. Yes the cabin was clean when we arrived (although I did have to dust the bottom of the night stand in the bedroom before I set my clothes out on it), but that is a basic expectation. No one cleaned up after us; we were given very explicit instructions on how we were to leave the cabin upon check out (towels & linens used put in bathtub, blankets used folded & left on ottoman, garbage taken out to outside trash can, all dishes washed, dried & returned to cupboards)- which we complied with. I felt the tip solicitation was too much & in poor taste, but it was a minor thing

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I appreciate you taking the time to write it. I also value your input as it helps me make improvements and upgrades to the cabin. My goal is for every guest to enjoy their stay. I would like to explain a few things in case future guests need clarification or have questions. I try to be very honest on my website as well as in all my property listing about how the cabin is set up. The bathroom has been completely remodeled however we kept the small footprint as it would not have been cost effective to add on to the bathroom. The shower head is low, but to clarify it sits a 5’ 5” tall not 4’. When I remodeled the kitchen next year I will be able to move the shower head to height that will better suit the majority of guests. The cabin has quality furniture. However, I know that not every guest will find every item comfortable to them. Each and every time – and I cannot stress this enough - a guest checks out of the cabin the cleaning crew comes in and cleans from top to bottom just like any other hotel. They replace dirty linens with clean ones, change sheets, clean the bathroom, kitchen and all floors and surfaces, etc. So, someone definitely came behind you and cleaned. The cabin is not run on some honor cleaning system where each guests cleans for the next guests. I do ask that my guests do a few simple things before they checkout: I ask that they take out their garbage – because garbage gets stinky very fast in the heat. I also ask that guests fold and place on top of the ottoman any sheets and blankets they may have used on the sleeper sofas in the living room. This is so I can replace these items with clean, fresh linens and blankets for the next guest. Finally I ask guest to wash and dry the dishes that the used during their stay. This is because guests would sometimes leave so many dishes that it would take the cleaning staff an extra hour to clean the kitchen. I try to keep my rates low and offer discounts when I can. It was not my intention to offend you or anyone else with the note. Tips are never required! The note about tipping is just to let guests know that it is okay to tip the cleaning crew who worked hard to make sure the cabin was clean and ready for your stay. Tips are by no means expected or required. I do not charge any extra cleaning fees.. Most cabins in the area charge anywhere from $25.00 to $50.00 per stay for cleaning. This fee is on top and in addition to their rates.

Wonderful time

We had an amazing time at the cabin. It was nicely decorated and very comfortable. I loved all the added little touches especially how the plants in the yard were labeled. Thank you so much for the enjoyable getaway!
