About Ida Teiti
Ida owns the property. Ida is a child of Tahiti who, after being orphaned at 9, was raised in Hawai`i. She never forgot her Tahitian roots and travels often back home where many of her brothers and sisters still live. Ida's daughter Teiti helps to manage the property.
Ida Teiti purchased this House in 2003
Why Ida Teiti chose Moorea-Maiao
This home is well kept, has good mana (spirit), and is surrounded by friendly neighbors. Everything is close and the price is right.
What makes this House unique
The Pandanus roof keeps things cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The full sized appliances, and washer/dryer, make your stay convenient and fun. Those who have stayed with us almost universally express their gratitude and intent to return. Sorry no A/C

What a fantastic find! Highly recommended
Had a wonderful time staying here with the family. Great location - a mere paddle away from the lagoon.
A true Polynesian experience surrounded by beauty!
This authentic thatched Polynesian home is situated in a lovely quiet neighborhood on a canal that takes you to the famous Mo'orea lagoon. For three months, using the available kayak, we enjoyed this access to the beautiful variegated blue waters that allowed us to snorkel with black-tip reef sharks, sting rays and stunning fish of every hue, shape and size! During our spring visit, all the tropical flora was blooming and the fragrances that wafted through the open house at night were amazing.
Just a reminder...this house is open...no A/C! You will become warm and fans are necessary! We found that cooling yourself with water and then letting the air do its job often was the best alternative. And don't be alarmed to find that when the wind blows, debris will enter through the open parts of the house.
There were a few issues, most of which were addressed immediately. Some were going to be taken care of later but at least check to find out how to restore power to the house at the street power box, if it goes out!
As we said, a true Polynesian experience! Oh, and be kind to Gary, Gregory and Gigantor I & II...the endemic geckos of the House of Peace!
Peaceful, well equipped villa
The villa is in one of the nicest areas of Moorea. There is easy access to the huge lagoon via the canal that the house sits on, with a tandem kayak provided. The lagoon features several little islands, or "motus," great for snorkeling or just paddling around in a kayak and looking at fish and coral through the glass-clear water. The house is well equipped, well furnished, and well kept, and features very attractive, distinctive woodworking. Bedrooms are spacious and equipped with mosquito netting. Numerous ceiling and floor-standing fans are available to keep you cool; we found nights to be a pleasant temperature. Javalana, the caretaker, was charming and available whenever we had questions. There are good places to eat nearby; we recommend Snack Mahana for the best grilled mahi-mahi you will ever taste. We would gladly return!
We arrived @ the home in mid Sept.a dryer season. The weather was perfect the whole time. The home it's self is a work of art.....it was like staying in a gallery of sorts. My traveling companion is a fine furniture maker, as was my father. We were in awe of the woodworking details of this splendid home. The location is convenient. The lagoon is more than you can dream of .The kiacks are nice,we did trips every morning and loved it. The whale watching excursions are fab.Whoever built this house ,built it with pure love.Comfy and cozy....I did not get more than two bugbites over 2 wks.On the other hand, my older and apparently more tender friend definitely needed to use the bug juice(fair skinned)I turn brown as a berry quick,so was too tough for the buggers.I highly recommend a stay .If you are going for 4 stars get bilked at the hilton. If you want to mingle in style with the locals stay @ the House of Peace....Truely peaceful....and the trade winds blowing @ night are very sleep inducing ...and romantic. This house has very good karma.
Proximity to lagoon and great kayaking
We stayed for 8 days. This house is well-equipped for a family or small group of friends. Everything you need for cooking, relaxing, etc.. It is a short kayak to Les Tipaniers beach and restaurant or short drive/ bike ride to Le Petit Village where there are a few touristy shops and eateries, and also the Intercontinental is close by if you want to go for a special meal or to watch Polynesian dancing. You can also walk to a small shop just outside the entrance to the neighbourhood (Magasin Tiahura), which has fresh baguettes twice a day, a small range of items, and very friendly and helpful owners.
The neighbourhood was not as luxurious as we expected, and some work was being done on the house which made the first impression a bit scruffy. However, the house was bigger than we expected and comfortable. If you are not interested in making the most of the kayaks, I'm not sure if this would be the house for you, as for us that is what made it special. So wonderful to be able to kayak out to the lagoon and swim with sharks and rays! In other respects the house feels a bit cut off. It is in a small, sleepy residential neighbourhood. We could not find the walking track to the lagoon that is featured on the house info, but did see a similar looking track which had been gated - I wonder if that was it? Perhaps the owner can clarify.
You will also need to be prepared with earplugs for the roosters and the sound of the wind blowing through the thatch roof. We really wanted to sleep upstairs (beautiful Polynesian/ Robinson Crusoe style room) but even with earplugs found it too noisy if there was any wind (plus the roosters!). The mosquito nets over the beds were useful and necessary. Our daughter loved her 'princess bed' with nets hanging over her. All the beds were really comfortable too. Everything worked fine in the bathrooms and kitchen and the dining/kitchen area was really cute. The garden area was pretty, and we enjoyed spending time on the patio area. It just needs to be tidied up at the front where there was a pile of rocks and building material.
The wifi and internet connection worked great and was really handy.
Overall we had a really enjoyable stay.
Beautiful Tahitian style house it a great location. Fully stocked with kitchen facilities and BBQ which made staying very enjoyable. Had some minor issues that are hopefully addressed for the next guests...Very clean. Great stay while visiting.
