Ann Marie Estes & Robert Shinners have been full time residents of St. John for over thirty years. They designed and built this beautiful villa. They also own and operate Low Key Watersportsj, a PADI 5* Diving Facility and retail boutique.
Ann Marie Estes purchased this villa in 1995
This residence does not have any villa built on either side of it. Private, quiet, yet close to town, and within a short walk of the Westin Resort.
Full air-conditioned, built for entertaining, yet close to Cruz Bay.
It was love at first site at Still Waters: the villa is spacious, impeccably furnished, and beautifully appointed - beachy in decor but not kitschy. The kitchen is far and away the best equipped I've rented anywhere; the only things I wanted for were ridiculously minute - like sharper knives and more storage containers for leftovers (like Tupperware, Gladware and the like). But all the essentials are covered and then some - fantastic blender, poolside as well as indoor-appropriate serving dishes, super nice cookware, baking dishes, cheese grater, toaster, coffee maker - it's all there and good quality.
The view from the deck is amazing, and we enjoyed many lovely sunsets. The pool is smallish but deep and well-maintained and is great for cooling off in the afternoon. The overall location was great too - just minutes from Cruz Bay but quiet and secluded on a hill to allow for absolutely privacy while on the deck. Although there were just two of us sharing the villa, the house is very spacious and laid out in a way that would be great for families or multiple couples, allowing for common space but also privacy when needed.
Annmarie could not possibly have been any kinder or more professional. She was fantastically responsive and accommodating from my very first inquiry all the way through to our departure. (Her staff at Low Key Watersports resonates this same tone - everyone we interacted with was wonderful and greatly contributed to our wonderful time in St John.) I can't think of anywhere better to stay on St John and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Still Waters and Annmarie to others.
My family and I booked Still Waters for our very first VRBO rental. We were so impressed how easy it was to work with Ann Marie! She helped us book a charter for a day around BVI and dinner reservations. Once we arrived on the island, Bob took great care getting us settled in to our home for the week. The house is well appointed, the views spectacular and we had everything we needed to have a wonderful time! We will definitely rent from Ann Marie and Bob again!!
Our family really enjoyed our stay at Still Waters. The location is amazing, and the views are stunning. Especially while relaxing at the Villa pool. Ann Marie is an exceptionally gracious and responsive host, always making sure our needs were met in addition to giving us the "inside scoop" when we asked for island recommendations. The Villa has everything you need or would want and then some.
We took advantage of the discounted snorkel gear rental and snorkel trip with Low Key Watersports, which was great! Everyone at Low Key couldn't have been more helpful in making our snorkel trip a fun and memorable success.
We certainly plan on staying at Still Waters again in the future.
Still Waters villa is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the views. Ann Marie and Bob are very helpful. The villa is beautiful and a very nice layout, everything you will need is there. It's close to the beaches and town for shopping.
It is definitely a place to stay and enjoy. We will plan a return trip next year.
We loved our stay at Still Waters. The villa has beautiful views from almost every room. The open floor plan worked well for our family. The loft room was great for 2 of our kids (8 and 12); they could be together, but have separate beds, and the guest bedroom was perfect for our 15 year old, who could escape the family when needed. It got a little warm in the loft room during the day when we went out and turned off the A/C, but it cooled down very quickly when we returned. It was nice to have the A/C throughout the house when we were there in August. The bed pillows were a little softer than I like them, but were nice. There are no real blankets in the house, and so if you get cold sleeping with the A/C, you might notice that. We didn't have a problem, we just turned down the A/C. The beds were comfortable.
We loved having the pool right there. Our younger kids could play in the pool early in the morning, while the adults had coffee and waited for the teenager to wake up. It's not a huge pool, but it's very deep, which meant our 3 boys could all play in it together.
The kitchen had everything that we needed. We cooked some days, and we ate some dinners out. The tap water tastes great, and we brought our own water bottles to fill each day. They don't have plastic recycling, and so there is an effort to reduce how many plastic water bottles you buy.
There are coolers, beach chairs, and plenty of beach towels (and we used a lot) for trips to the beach. The washing machine and dryer are new and worked well. There is a safe in the house, which made me feel secure about leaving our passports there, but I really didn't feel like I needed to worry about leaving our phones or computers out charging, or anything like that.
The wifi is slower than we are used to at home, and there wasn't enough bandwidth for all of us to do everything that we wanted, if one of us was streaming, but it was nice to have it. We had cell coverage (AT&T) at the house, and so that worked well for us.
The location of the house is great. It's pretty close to town, but far enough away to be peaceful. We took advantage of the free snorkel gear rental and the discount on a snorkel trip out with the Low Key dive boat, which was great! Everyone at Low Key was really friendly and helpful. Ann Marie was very responsive on email, even when we were in St. John. Overall, we were very happy and we had a great trip.
From the moment you walk in and see the views of the tortoise sea and sailboats thru the wall to wall glass doors, you will know you are in St. John's and will find it very hard to leave. That view can be enjoyed from each room Taking in the beautiful views and the tranquil sea with the sailboats made cooking breakfast and dinners so enjoyable and easy to do with the well appointed kitchen.
The home comes well equipped with coolers and chairs for your picnic or a wine and cheese sunset.
The villa is 3 bedroom and 2 baths. It was just my husband and I so we just enjoyed the master bedroom with its iron canopy bed which my husband enjoyed to my surprise.
The beautiful master bathroom has a shower overlooking the sea and a private gorgeous outdoor garden. The bed and bedding was soooooo comfy too.
It was great having wifi to keep up with our friends and sending them pictures of our oasis. They were quite jealous I might add when they saw the views and the pool and deck area with great lounge chairs and dining set for when you wanted to enjoy a candle lite dinner.
Air conditioning in all the rooms made it so comfortable after a day on the National Park Beaches or just exploring this amazing island. Hawk Nest beach was my favorite. We turned the AC off while we were gone as electricity is Very Expensive on any island and within minutes of turning them on the villa was very comfortable. Believe me air conditioning and fresh water on an island are precious commodities, ones you don't want to waste or have to pay for. Most of us from the main land tend to take them for granite. When on an island please DON'T.
The location of the villa is great as it is close to several shopping stores and 5 mins to Cruz Bay for a nite out and a pain killer drink or two or two too many.
Anne Marie and Bob the owners were a joy to work with and easy to get a hold of if we had a question or needed anything. I can't Thank You enough for sharing your Beautiful Home with us, you have made me feel it's now My Home too.
