We loved our stay at Still Waters. The villa has beautiful views from almost every room. The open floor plan worked well for our family. The loft room was great for 2 of our kids (8 and 12); they could be together, but have separate beds, and the guest bedroom was perfect for our 15 year old, who could escape the family when needed. It got a little warm in the loft room during the day when we went out and turned off the A/C, but it cooled down very quickly when we returned. It was nice to have the A/C throughout the house when we were there in August. The bed pillows were a little softer than I like them, but were nice. There are no real blankets in the house, and so if you get cold sleeping with the A/C, you might notice that. We didn't have a problem, we just turned down the A/C. The beds were comfortable.
We loved having the pool right there. Our younger kids could play in the pool early in the morning, while the adults had coffee and waited for the teenager to wake up. It's not a huge pool, but it's very deep, which meant our 3 boys could all play in it together.
The kitchen had everything that we needed. We cooked some days, and we ate some dinners out. The tap water tastes great, and we brought our own water bottles to fill each day. They don't have plastic recycling, and so there is an effort to reduce how many plastic water bottles you buy.
There are coolers, beach chairs, and plenty of beach towels (and we used a lot) for trips to the beach. The washing machine and dryer are new and worked well. There is a safe in the house, which made me feel secure about leaving our passports there, but I really didn't feel like I needed to worry about leaving our phones or computers out charging, or anything like that.
The wifi is slower than we are used to at home, and there wasn't enough bandwidth for all of us to do everything that we wanted, if one of us was streaming, but it was nice to have it. We had cell coverage (AT&T) at the house, and so that worked well for us.
The location of the house is great. It's pretty close to town, but far enough away to be peaceful. We took advantage of the free snorkel gear rental and the discount on a snorkel trip out with the Low Key dive boat, which was great! Everyone at Low Key was really friendly and helpful. Ann Marie was very responsive on email, even when we were in St. John. Overall, we were very happy and we had a great trip.
From the moment you walk in and see the views of the tortoise sea and sailboats thru the wall to wall glass doors, you will know you are in St. John's and will find it very hard to leave. That view can be enjoyed from each room Taking in the beautiful views and the tranquil sea with the sailboats made cooking breakfast and dinners so enjoyable and easy to do with the well appointed kitchen.
The home comes well equipped with coolers and chairs for your picnic or a wine and cheese sunset.
The villa is 3 bedroom and 2 baths. It was just my husband and I so we just enjoyed the master bedroom with its iron canopy bed which my husband enjoyed to my surprise.
The beautiful master bathroom has a shower overlooking the sea and a private gorgeous outdoor garden. The bed and bedding was soooooo comfy too.
It was great having wifi to keep up with our friends and sending them pictures of our oasis. They were quite jealous I might add when they saw the views and the pool and deck area with great lounge chairs and dining set for when you wanted to enjoy a candle lite dinner.
Air conditioning in all the rooms made it so comfortable after a day on the National Park Beaches or just exploring this amazing island. Hawk Nest beach was my favorite. We turned the AC off while we were gone as electricity is Very Expensive on any island and within minutes of turning them on the villa was very comfortable. Believe me air conditioning and fresh water on an island are precious commodities, ones you don't want to waste or have to pay for. Most of us from the main land tend to take them for granite. When on an island please DON'T.
The location of the villa is great as it is close to several shopping stores and 5 mins to Cruz Bay for a nite out and a pain killer drink or two or two too many.
Anne Marie and Bob the owners were a joy to work with and easy to get a hold of if we had a question or needed anything. I can't Thank You enough for sharing your Beautiful Home with us, you have made me feel it's now My Home too.
As soon as we opened the front door to the villa and saw the amazing views it took our breath away! This villa is located near everything you need (5 minutes to grocery, 10 minutes to town, 15 minutes to the most beautiful beaches in the world), but far enough away from the crowds and noise of Cruz Bay. The villa had everything you would need for a perfect beach vacation including 3 different sizes of coolers, beach chairs, plenty of dishes, etc. The beds were super comfortable and the shower that overlooked the bay was amazing! We originally booked this villa for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens), but our friends and their teenage son decided to join us for the week. The villa had plenty of space for all 7 of us to stretch out and have room, but also afforded us wonderful areas to eat and play games together. The kids loved the deep pool and the adults loved drinking on the patio and watching the ocean.
Ann Marie & Bob were extremely helpful throughout the process and even included free snorkel gear for all of us since they own a local dive shop.
We cannot wait to go back!
This was our family's 5th trip to St. John and 1st time staying at Still Waters... Loved this villa! It was close to Cruz Bay which was very convenient since we went out with Low Key Watersports 2 mornings... highly recommend going diving or snorkeling with them! The villa was very comfortable and the perfect size for our family of 4... teenage daughter slept in the quest room and teenage son in the loft. The open floor plan was wonderful and the kitchen was stocked with all the pots, pans and dishes needed to host a dinner party ... we had 2 other couples join us for a pasta dinner 1 evening after a day of diving. The kids enjoyed playing in the deeper pool and I enjoyed laying out around it. There is a nice view of Chocolate Hole and Hart Bay from just about every room in the villa! There are plenty of bath and beach towels and a full size washer and dryer which were used and worked perfectly! Probably the feature I appreciated the most was the a/c in the "entire" villa... after a day at the beach or out on the boat, we would come back to the villa and turn the a/c on and in no time at all it was cool and a bug-free evening was enjoyed while watching a movie as a family! Thank you Ann Marie for being so helpful from the beginning to the end of our stay and to Bob for his help showing us to the villa and captaining 1 of our dive/snorkel days! We'll be back!
My husband, daughter and I went to St. John and stayed at the most beautiful villa ever. We went to several beaches each day, snorkeled, and ate wonderful food. Our favorite beach was Trunk Bay. During one of the trips to the beach we saw several rays, a turtle, and lots of colorful fish and coral. We took a boat to the British Virgin Islands, saw the Baths, and went snorkeling off the coast of Norman Island. What a beautiful place! The water color and clarity was incredible. The villa was located in an area that was easy to get to all the beaches. It had a wonderful pool and a great view of the water. It was so relaxing. I don't think I have ever been on a vacation that I enjoyed more. Thanks Ann Marie for all the beach and restaurant suggestions. I would recommend Still Waters to anyone visiting St. John...hands down the best! We'll be back.
My mother-in-law, wife, our three kids between 13 and 8, and I traveled to St. John and spent a week at the Still Waters Villa for Spring Break. Let me start by saying we absolutely loved St. John. We were blown away by the beauty of the beaches, blueness of the water and remoteness of the national park. The snorkeling was amazing everywhere we went and we rented two paddle boards for the entire week, which was a ton of fun. The Still Waters Villa worked perfectly for us. The views of Chocolate Hole were picture perfect and the openness of the villa was very conducive to a great vacation feel. The kitchen was well equipped and suited us well as we ate every breakfast and many dinners in the Villa, as well as packed picnic lunches for our daily adventures. The master bedroom and bath was very nice and comfortable and our kids and mother-in-law fit perfectly into the second master bedroom and loft. The location of the Villa was also very convenient to the local grocery store and meals in Cruz Bay. The free rentals of the snorkeling equipment from the owners shop Low Key was a nice touch and we used the equipment daily. Other positives of the Villa were the AC worked great, pool was nice for late day dips, the mattresses and linens were very comfortable, and there was a brand new washer and dryer that go a lot of use. In addition to our daily trek to the various beaches (Maho, Trunk Bay, Watermelon Key, Cinnamon Bay, Caneel Bay - all amazing but Maho was our favorite for the paddle boards), we took an awesome sailing/snorkeling trip on the Cimarronyachtcharter.com with Captain Rick and Madison, rented the paddle boards from Lucy at sup-stjohn.com, and made the drive over to the other side of the island to The Tourist Trap outside Coral Bay - yummy lobster Rolls and pork nachos. No doubt in our minds that we will be back to both St. John and the Still Waters Villa.
