We spent 9 wonderful days here...Virginia, Michael and Galya were all great to work with !!! Michael was able to get us discount tours on almost everything we wanted to do, including Catalina island tour !! He also was for real a phone call away..I'm sure we called him with questions and what not at least a dozen times lol always answered or got back to us within minutes. The condo itself was great and as pictured and was nice and clean !!! We always felt safe and food, groceries, money exchange etc is all just a few blocks away ! Beach was awesome !!!! We normally go to more remote or smaller areas, so being in more of a city type setting was not really for us but if you don't mind...excellent place to stay !!! Mary-Ann D's is also accurate on suggestions and such...we also enjoyed Kats for lunches !!

Wonderful Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I have returned from a very enjoyable 2 week stay at this condo. For 10 years have done all-inclusive Punta Cana resorts. After this stay, no more all-inclusives! Virginia, the owner, was extremely helpful with all questions we posed to her before our vacation began. Michael & Galya (condo manager) were always very helpful: Michael picked us up from the airport, took us grocery shopping, to the bank, quick tour - we thought we knew the area but Michael showed us spots we never knew existed, then onto the condo where Galya greeted us - such a wonderful young couple! The condo, light & airy in colour & decor, was so clean & very well laid out. Cupboards well stocked with mugs, glasses, plates, bowls, left-over containers, cooking pots & fry pan; drawers filled with all utensils required & all appliances in good working order; large fridge easily held all our groceries. Large bedroom, ample clothing storage space, king size bed way too comfortable! Excellent sized washroom; ample room for toiletries & cosmetics; large shower with hot water always. Rarely used the A/C - multiple fans & windows open created perfect breeze. Ocean view from dining area - so lovely. Private beach - perfect size, debris free, plenty of palapas and palm tree shade. Bamboo Beach Bar - beside condo complex, free Wifi, full food & beverage service. From the condo - lovely walk to the many restaurants, bars, & small grocery markets. A few suggestions: Garry's Good Times Bar - fun sports bar, great food, gets hopping after 9ish; Balicana - excellent Thai food, great ambience, reservations recommended for pool side seating; Pranama: authentic Indian food, excellent samosas; Citrus: good food, reservations recommended as usually a long wait; Pastrata - excellent Mexican food, ~15 min. walk (close to Barcelo Dominican Beach resort); D'Angelos - Italian, good pizza, slow service. Very safe to walk about day or evening as streets are filled with visitors and locals. 30 pesos will take you to the San Juan Shopping Centre (palm tree across road from Bam market is the bus stop!) - has Pola grocery market, plus trustworthy bank (stand alone building) - make sure to take passport for money withdrawal. Small grocery stores in condo area - very competitive prices. Veggie & fruit truck - such deliciously juicy fruit & tomatoes - so tasty. We had such a wonderful time, didn't want to leave & highly recommend this condo.

Great has gotten even better!

  • 5 of 5

Hello again! Got back from another fantastic trip to Punta Cana. This was my 5th time staying in this condo. I arrived on Dec 23rd and left on Jan 2nd so was there for both Christmas and New Years. Setting up the trip was again a very easy process. Virginia has always been a pleasure to work with. She is prompt with her responses and very friendly. In my last review, I mentioned the efficiency of the new airport terminal and this trip was no different. I think it was about 15 minutes from the time I got off the plane to when I was picking up my luggage. Michael, the property manager, was waiting at the airport to take me to the supermarket and on to the condo.

I was excited to see the remodel of the condo. Let me tell you, I was very impressed with the changes that Virginia had made. The biggest change was incorporating the terrace into indoor living space. This change really opened up the inside and gives the inside a sense of spaciousness. The 'wall of windows' is very effective in providing a connection with the outdoors and you can now have the sense of sitting on the terrace while enjoying the comforts of air-conditioning! The kitchen has been reconfigured into a much better layout which aids the overall feel of openness in the condo. The sink was relocated for easier access and the cooktop now has a built-in ignition system so there is no more need for matches. The bathroom has been completely remodeled and provides a sense of elegance with new tile work and stone vanity. The bedroom has been slightly upgraded and refreshed and has a new bed. I slept very, very well the whole time there.

Michael and Galya were fantastic hosts and were readily available throughout the Holidays to assist me with any questions I had.

I strongly recommend this property based on proximity to the beach, distance to restaurants and markets, the ease of booking reservations, the responsiveness of the Hosts and the warmth and attractiveness of the upgrades.

I plan on getting back down there again and will definitely book my stay in the same condo. For those who have stayed there before, I recommend going back again if you revisit the area. New travelers will be very satisfied choosing those place as well.

My only disappointment was being unable to bring home the 85 degree temperatures to Minnesota where the temperatures have been below 0 degrees F.

Fantastic hideaway steps from the beach!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just returned from staying two weeks in this lovely spot! This first floor apartment is well suited for two people, very efficiently laid out, and a good base of operations. It was also very clean, although sand was easily tracked in (it is ON the beach!). The little gas stove was fun to cook with and we ended up making nearly all of our meals in the kitchen. The local Thai restaurant was nice, but we preferred the Italian place, D'Angelos, when we did go out to eat. Both were an easy <5 minute walk from the apartment.

Before we arrived, we opted to have the local driver pick us up at the airport and take us to the supermarket at the San Juan shopping center (about halfway between the airport and apartment). This was a very good idea as we were able to stock up on groceries that lasted most of the visit. The driver Cesar was prompt, courteous, and did not rush us with the shopping. The property managers, Michael and Galya, were extremely lovely people who provided an excellent introduction to the area and some basics for getting around. Additionally, Virginia was easy to work with while arranging our stay.

The apartment is located in a gated residential area with a mix of locals, ex-pats, and tourists in a neighborhood that felt secure. The private beach is mere steps out the door and is perhaps the cleanest in the area. Be warned that capitalism is alive and well on the beach. Local agents will approach you on the beach to try and convince you go into their shops or book activities. They are persistent, but will back off if you are firm with them. Caveat emptor. This annoyance is offset by the overall jovial nature of the beach.

Because it was so hot during the day, there was a very active and loud nightlife. The Dominicans seem to like their music played at 110 decibels! We visited in June, so this may not apply during other times of the year. The two air conditioning units in the apartment allowed it to become a cool, quiet (or at least muffled) hideaway.

Our favorite activities included long walks up and down the beach, lounging on the nice beach chairs, and exploring the local markets and shops. We were particularly fond of the French bakery and the BAM grocery store, both about a 10 minute walk from the apartment. For diving, we used Dressel Divers who operate out of the Iberostar resort. They are excellent and very professional.

We would definitely go back to this apartment and highly recommend it.

Piece of paradise

Sorry that I am so late in submitting a review. Getting back to work is tough after a great time, in a great residence, in a beautiful location. This past trip was my 6th time on Bavaro Beach and my 4th time in Flor del Mar. I am already planning my next trip back. Each time I go I look forward to reconnecting with people I have met and the chance to make new friends. Michael and Gayla are great hosts and are always available to make your stay a great experience. The entire trip is easy to set up and navigate. Virginia is great to work with making the reservations, the new airport terminal with jet-ways and separate customs stations goes much faster than it used to be, Cesar is waiting at the airport to give you a ride to Flor del Mar (with a stop at the supermarket if desired) and then Michael and Gayla meet you to get you settled into the residence. There are many fine restaurants a short walk away and small stores nearby that provide all that you need. The larger shopping centers are a short 30 pesos bus ride away or you can travel by taxi or motos. In the evenings there are several nightspots within walking distance or on the beach. Speaking of the beach, it is awesome! Fine sand, great ocean breezes, clear warm water and friendly people. There is a wide variety of activities provided on the beach that will keep you entertained if you want more than basking in the sun. The residence is clean, comfortable and, best of all, just steps from the beach! The people are friendly and helpful. I know that some visitors are uncomfortable with the locals who are selling things or asking for money but all you have to do is be straight forward with them, stand your ground and they will move on. I have never felt unsafe no matter the time of day or night. I have rambled on here so will end my review. I just hoped that the Flor del Mar condo is available for my next visit.

Perfect spot on the beach!

  • 5 of 5

Having had really good results using VRBO to book are previous vacation residence, we decided to try again when looking at going to the Dominican Republic. This condo lived up to all of the pictures and reviews. It was a fantastic living space that was just 100 feet from the beach and maybe just 300 feet from the water.

The kitchen was fully functional with a decent sized refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, and all of cooking/eating necessities. The living space was comfortable with a TV, cable, and available internet/phone access. The bedroom was spacious and the bed comfortable with a safe in the closet for storing valuables. The bathroom was fantastic with a shower big enough for two.

The beach was exactly as advertised. White powder sand, beautiful turquoise water, and tons of shops and bars close by. Just a few minutes walk from the condo there are no less than 10 restaurants. We didn't eat at all of them but were very pleased my the large majority of them. Citrus was our favorite but DeAngleos, Balicana, and Danny's were also quite good.

The property managers, Michael and Galya were fantastic. They really helped us get acclimated to the DR. Showed us all around our immediate area, helped us get on the bus, and took care of getting taxis to and from the airport. If we go back to the DR we will definitely visit the condo again.
