Lovely Cottage Fantastic Location
We walked into an extremely clean and well kept cottage with so many neat vintage touches along with an excellent remodel. Cold AC, comfy beds, well stocked kitchen and a big front porch with a fantastic location between Thomas’s Doughnuts and the Carousel grocery. The beach walkover is just a few feet away and a non crowded beach!! Yes there is construction around but we loved exploring the neighborhood and especially seeing all the preserved cottages like this one. It is truly a gem and for sure well loved. Thanks again for sharing it with us. Also as far as BlueSwell the management company. I called in advance concerned about negative reviews before us. The lady in the office could not have been nicer, more accommodating, and patient with my concerns ahead of the trip. She was right everything was just perfect!!
We tried to make the best of it.
When we arrived we called to check in and the property had been cleaned but not yet inspected so we were asked to wait. They told us we would be notified when it was ready. After several hours we didn't hear back and had to reach out again. Upon entry the first thing we noticed was the smell of mold. It was strong and didn't go away while we were there. Shortly after we arrived we noticed it was getting warm inside so I went to adjust the thermostat and noticed it didn't have power. I called immediately to see if they could get it fixed. I was told a repair man would be there within 45 minutes but after hours of waiting I went to bed. I called first thing the next morning as it was miserably hot. They told me someone would be there to fix it but that we could leave if we needed to. We left for several hours and when we returned it still wasn't fixed. I called again. At first they told me someone had already been there and that I just didn't know how to work the thermostat so they would send the maintenance guy out to show me how to properly operate it. I told them they insulted my intelligence because there was no power to the digital thermostat, there was no battery to change and I suggested maybe it was an electrical issue. The AC repair man showed up and said the breaker was tripped and it wouldn't stay on. I called again. They told me they would need to send an electrician out then told me it wouldn't be until the next day. They asked me to get up at 8am to meet the electrician who didn't show up until almost 9:30. Not exactly how I wanted to spend my vacation, miserably hot and meeting repairmen. They replaced the breaker and after 2 days we finally had AC. The following day we had been out and came back to the property to find that the breaker had tripped again and the AC had been off for quite some time because it was 80 degrees in the house. We reset the breaker and I notified them again but never had a response. In addition to all of this, the property was less than acceptable for cleanliness. The comforter in the master bedroom had a fresh blood stain on it and when I asked them to change it they told me there was an extra one in the closet that I could swap it out. That didn't sit well with me and they came back out to change it. The door and window frame were dirty along with the wall where the trashcan sat in the kitchen and lightbulb above the table was out. I hate complaining, these are simply facts.
Sarah, We sincerely apologize that these items happened during your stay. We did all we could to fix each situation in a timely manner. The AC has since been repaired and a new breaker box has been put in. Our owners are very concerned for their guests and we work with them to get everything settled as fast as possible so each guest is comfortable. Construction next door / no AC and no help from property mgr
We arrived after 5:30 PM on Saturday to find maids had just begun cleaning (even though a 4 PM check in) and told by property Mgr (Blue Swell) they would call when ready for us. After all day on the road kids ready to be out of car. With no word from Blue Swell and hours more in car and continually driving by and seeing cars in front of house we finally were able to get into house at 8:45 PM. Bad start.
We found several small problems with the property, which we assumed were caused by previous guests, and reported to property Mgr the next morning. By lunchtime their maintenance associate arrived and promptly repaired faucets, light fixtures, and towel bars. This was our only positive experience with property Mgr. He was outstanding in all aspects of his job and gave us helpful recommendations about the area.
Next door to the house (west side) is a new house under construction and the crew starts every weekday morning between 6:30 and 7:00 AM. Not exactly the sounds you want to hear or when you want to hear them on vacation. Not property Mgr fault or control but should have been disclosed. Best guess is this house will not be finished before October. More impactful to our stay was they do not have any area for material storage or parking and our car was blocked in throughout our stay.
Sometime while we were out Thursday afternoon / evening the main AC unit stopped working. When we arrived back at the house around 10PM it was extremely hot. We contacted prop Mgr and in discussing situation tried breakers but none inside house control the heat pump. She had no other information about our property and we could find no other electrical panel (very old house), so tried calling their after hours AC repair service. They never returned her calls. After 11:15 we decided to all sleep on floor / beds in the tiny loft area and she promised to have AC repair there first thing next morning.
When we had not received a call from property Mgr, or visit from property Mgr maintenance or AC repair by 11:00 AM the next morning and house temperature nearing that of outdoors we decided our vacation was over and packed up. When we called to advise Blue Swell we were leaving early and why, the person on the phone seemed genuinely surprised. Either they have terrible internal processes, communications and customer follow-up, way too many properties and too few people to support them, or all of the above I don’t know. But I know we won’t be back.
Joe, We apologize that this happened during your stay. Our check in time does begin at 4PM, but it does extend until 6PM to allow us time during the busy season for heavy turnovers. So again, we do apologize that this extended past that check in time. For the AC unit, it has since been replaced and a new breaker box has been put in. Our owners are very concerned about the comfort of their guests, and we do the best we can to make sure everything is handled within a timely manner. Again, we do apologize that this happened during your stay and appreciate you booking with us.

This rental is in a great location, updated with modern furnishings and appliances, and was very comfortable for our group of 5. The location is the biggest plus. Check out Carousel Grocery and Thomas Donuts. Skip the big grocery chains! You can walk to the store. Multiple beach access is right across the street. This spot is even quiet at night!
