We love living in this large Victorian villa, we are sure you will love it to.
Tina & Luke purchased this apartment in 2013
This house has plenty of history - built in 1885, it is truly beautiful. With large flat gardens, (something of a rarity in Torquay) you will have plenty of space to relax and wind down.
The property is uniquely located in a quiet leafy conservation area. Yet it is only a few minutes walk to some of the loveliest beaches that the English Riviera has to offer. Devon's coastline is dramatic, and well worth exploring. We can show you the best beaches away from the typical tourist traps. Whether you enjoy swimming, kayaking, or snorkelling. The beaches here are the best in the UK.
The bustling harbour offers some of the best fish restaurants and is only a short walk away.
Luke and Tina were very welcoming and the flat was really nice. They were helpful and gave us some advices on where to go around. You are really close to the harbour. A really nice place to stay!
Well situated for visiting the beaches and town. Lovely garden and apartment had everything we needed.
A really fab apartment in Torbay It had all the things we needed for a great stay. Tina and Luke were always on hand to give help and advice when needed. But otherwise they were unobtrusive and allowed us to have a great holiday. The location is the best. It's quiet and leafy but only a few minutes walk to the beach. And a short stroll into town.
We really enjoyed our stay with Luke & Tina and would gladly stay again. The location is ideal and is close to town and beach. The apartment had everything we needed.
Both the owners and this apartment are lovely. The owners, Tina & Luke are very friendly, nice to chat to, have a sweet family but also leave you to it. When you just want your own holiday without being bothered, you'd never know they were there. On arrival we were pleased with the apartment. We had the use of the wifi, which you need as service for my phone in the area was terrible. The apartment is comfortable enough. Maybe it could do with a little modernising but you just look past it, I expect that from older Devon properties. I prefer it. The kitchen is smart enough. It only has a hob, no oven, which I find good to know. The shower and toilet make interesting noises when in use, I did worry a little about the noise travel up to the owners but I guess they are used to it by now. Location wise it's perfect, a beautiful leafy area as described, easy access to most places. Very close to the town, short walk. The owners garden was lovely to sit in and we felt welcomed to do so. The one thing I debate being mentioned in the advert is that the garden isn't enclosed. I would have preferred to be able to open the apartment door and not have to think about the dog but it worked still as the garden I relatively secure. Would 100% recommend the apartment. Reasonable in price. Nice family and great location.
I also want to point out from one other review....the bathroom isn't grubby, yes the shelf in the shower is rusty but those types go like that after a while. It's just a little dated and small. The kitchen cupboards don't smell like damp. I don't think the steps to the apartment are dangerous in the slightest, they are normal patio style steps. Sorry.
Thanks guys for your hospitality.
On arrival, Tina & Luke were very welcoming. The apartment has everything you need, There is fresh milk in the fridge and coffee , tea, sugar is provided. Also towels, bedding and toilet paper. The apartment is based in the celler, which was a godsend on the hotter days especially for our dogs. However, we do feel it could benefit from modernising/updating. The units are old and the cupboards smelt of damp. The bathroom is very old and shelves in shower covered in rust. Tiles in bathroom are grubby looking and cracked and could also benefit from updating. The stairs leading to apartment are quite dangerous if you have issues with knees/hips especially as the last step is quite high and it's a bigger drop. The security light comes on quite late, if coming back at night in the dark it's advisable to have your tourch ready on your phone. Execellent parking, as you can park right outside the apartment. We were unsure if you could sit in the garden as it didn't feel right with it being Tina & Luke's private space and didn't want to intrude, saying that we spent every day doing long walks and exploring surrounding areas so by the time we came back we had a little rest before heading out for food etc at night. We had friends coming to stay with us, who travelled over 3 hours and this was absolutely no problem (paid a very little extra charge) and Tina & Luke were more than happy for them to stay with us for a couple of days. All in all we had a wonderful, 1 week stay at The Newlands, and would recommend Torquay to anyone. We wouldn't personally stay at the same location twice but this is just our personal preference and in no way relating to the apartment. To make it a little more welcoming, i feel some fresh flowers on the dining table or a pack of biscuits with a welcome note would be a nice little gesture. :-)
The Newlands is an excellent location to visit Torquay. You can walk to downtown in twenty minutes, there are numerous pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Parking at the rental is great, one the best we had in England, just outside the door and off the street. We visited Dartmoor and other sites close by, very easy to access (just don't believe your Satellite Navigation system will take the best routes - made it interesting). If we had any issues it was with directions on how to get to the rental, but that may have been us. The owners were very accommodating in staying up late to ensure we got booked in. We were concern that the shower was making too much noise and would wake others up. All in all a great place to stay, and see Torquay.
The English Riviera, South Devon’s beautiful bay, is a popular destination with families holidaying in the UK. In addition to safe, secure beaches and rolling countryside that's just begging to be explored, the area is jam-packed with things to see and do for visitors of all ages.
The English Riviera has more attractions than any other seaside resort in the UK! For families looking for things to do, Torquay is a hive of activity throughout the year. There are loads of beaches to choose from, Kents Cavern to explore and the brilliant Living Coasts coastal zoo to visit, where you can walk with penguins. There are also plenty of sightseeing excursions, and boat and fishing trips out into the bay. You’ll also find that it’s the HQ for a host of maritime events and regattas – but don’t worry if you don’t own a boat; there’s plenty of spectator points around the coast and each event brings its own festivals and celebrations.
Paignton is most famous for its wonderful zoo, whilst Babbacombe plays host to a world in miniature in the form of its acclaimed Model Village. In Brixham, you can find a replica of Sir Francis Drake’s ship, the Golden Hind.
For the more adventurous, there are some fantastic Geopark Discovery Packages to enjoy.
And your holiday doesn’t have to break the budget – you’ll find free and great value attractions wherever you go.
