About marcus morley

Hi and Welcome to Old Oak Barn ....The photo shows the state the property was in when I first saw it and decided to take on the challenge of converting it into a beautiful dwelling!

marcus morley purchased this barn in 2010

Why marcus morley chose Suffolk

I bought this barn as my family live a couple of villages away also in a converted barn, so with their experience and a good builder, it gave me comfort to turn it into something special and be closer to them when I turn my back on the hustle and bustle of London.

What makes this barn unique

The Barn is a very special place hidden down a narrow country lane with few disturbances! Despite the frame being from the 16th century, it has all the facilities you would expect from a modern house but oozes character! You can enjoy a meal at the oak 10 seater trestle dining table, listen to your music on the fantastic sonos system or light a fire and sip a drink whilst staring at the flickering flames....it's up to you....The sleeping arrangements are such that you can have 5 double beds or switch 3 of the rooms into twins tailoring to the requirements of your group. If you would like to treat yourself to a hot tub during your stay, a purpose built patio area can also accommodate your needs - please let me know in advance of your booking if you would like to include a 5-6 person hot tub.

Fabulous in every way

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a long weekend at the Old Oak barn and had the most fabulous time. The building is truly splendid, beautifully finished with high quality everything everywhere, very bright and spacious so that with 10 people it never felt crowded, even around the breakfast table in the kitchen. All the bedrooms are spacious, full of character as are the bathrooms and the living space is truly fabulous with large floor to ceiling windows and patio doors opening onto a patio and the countryside beyond.

The location is totally private, peaceful and relaxing, and the very rural location and absence of light pollution meant we could gaze at a beautiful starry sky at night which is such a rare thing in Britain nowadays.

We did manage to tear ourselves away from the barn a couple of times for walk to the local pub for Sunday roast, and a visit to lovely Southwold but best of all we loved staying at the barn to enjoy the beauty of our surroundings, and the tranquility of the countryside all around us....We were blessed with fantastic weather, so I think we could have stayed there for ever!

Perfect Barn Conversion

  • 5 of 5

We chose Old Oak Barn because we were looking for a comfortable and secluded getaway for a long weekend and it was just perfect.

It's surrounded by beautiful countryside... and from the fab bedrooms to the stunning vaulted main living area through to the fantastic kitchen, we really couldn't fault it.

We stayed as a group of friends for a long weekend but it would also be great for longer stays and family get togethers - it's hard to imagine anyone not loving the place.

Definitely 5 stars.

Wow! Simply beautiful & 100% pure relaxation!

What can I say other than amazing!

The owner was extremely helpful even before we booked. He was very accommodating and was only ever an email away. His replies were well within 24 hours, but mostly within a couple of hours. On arrival at the barn, it was even better than the pictures! Everything was just beautiful... Rooms were clean and impressive, the kitchen was fully stocked with crockery and utensils, the garage provided the fun and entertainment for my 8 year old nephew and is adults. The grounds were simply stunning and I can highly recommend this barn. It provided my family and I the perfect opportunity to have a family get together away out of the hustle and bustle. Thank you for everything! We will be back soon!

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to stay!

The house itself is beautiful, huge and incredibly well stocked. We stayed as a group of friends and had a fantastic week here with visits to the nearby owl sanctuary and Southwold pier, Aldeburgh for fish and chips as well as a few great days sitting around the house with BBQs, water fights on the lawn and evenings spent round the fire pit. We had a 'Come Dine with Me' style approach to dinners throughout the week, and the kitchen had every type of pot, pan and utensil that we could want for our creations!

Plenty of space both indoor and out for all of us to spend a week, and would definitely recommend and visit again!

Perfect house for a group celebration

  • 5 of 5

Ten of us spent a long weekend at the Barn and had a wonderful time. It is spacious both inside the property and around the garden area with loads of areas to relax. We had mixed weather but that didn't affect anything as the lounge area is comfy and the large glass windows stop you from feeling locked in and there was always the games garage to keep us entertained. When the sun came out the garden and large lawn at the front could be used for games and BBQs. For group eats we could pick from the large kitchen table in the brilliantly equipped kitchen, the dining room table in the main room or head outside to the patio table. All the bedrooms are large with comfy beds - the master bedroom stands out. Plenty of parking and an array of beautiful countryside/pubs/villages within a short distance. Overall a perfect group getaway.
