Located in a beautiful, private, secluded, 1100 acre community with minimum three acre lots about 15 minutes from both Highlands, NC and Clayton, GA and less than a two hour drive from downtown Atlanta. Great hikes right out the front door or go to the top of nearby Rabun Bald or Scaly Mountian for spectacular three state views. Owners reside just up the road to quickly address any needs you may have.
We enjoyed coming up to the mountains from Atlanta for years before finding this wonderful house. We liked the area so much that we retired here and built a new home just up the road from this house. We now rent out this original house.
David Blum purchased this house in 2001
Location, location, location.
The cool summers and beautiful views.
My husband and I have been meeting friends in Highlands for about five years and this is the only house we have stayed in two times in a row. Before discovering this house with its beautiful views we would stay within a mile of Highlands. The location is not only high up a mountain, but it is close to Highlands and also to Clayton, Ga which also has great shopping and food. The house has a great kitchen to fix breakfast, a great living room with a view to watch the sunset, and a back porch to watch the same sunset. You can have a fire in the fireplace and relax after a busy day and watch some TV. Hiking trails, a zip line, and almost anything else you want to do is close.
Dave and his wife are super hosts and if there is a problem they are immediately there to handle the situation. (They live close by) Before your stay Dave emails a list which includes wonderful places to visit and the names and phone numbers of every restaurant worth eating at.
You really can't go wrong if you stay here.
The interior was exceptionally well laid out. Great views and delightful areas to hike!
we loved this little escape to scaly mountain. the view from the deck is beautiful! just gorgeous setting away from it all. comfortable and refreshing. a bit of a drive to get to highlands, but it was worth being off the beaten path. we hope to stay again.
My wife and I usually book a room at one of several nice Highlands inns for around $150-200 per night. This time our favorites were all booked. So I pulled up VRBO and the first thing I saw was David and Nancy's rental home. What a deal! We could rent an entire house for not much more than we usually pay for a single room. We hopped on it right away and weren't the least bit disappointed. The house is about a mile off Highlands Road on Scaly Mountain, which is how you get the lovely mountain view from the large back porch. The nearest house is David and Nancy's personal home a short walk up the road. You're about equidistant from Highlands, Clayton, and Franklin. David's comprehensive "house notes" tell you about the best attractions, shopping, and dining in each direction. Don't miss the large, quality collection of American Handcrafts at nearby "Peak Experience." Several beautiful hikes begin at your door.
The house and grounds were in excellent condition. The interior was spotless. The downstairs is an open floor-plan, except for the master bedroom and bath, with a back porch stretching the length of the house. The kitchen has top tier appliances and plenty of room to work in. There's a gas fireplace across from the comfy sofa in the great room, where you can watch the huge flatscreen TV. Excellent reception. Large dining table with mountain view. Upstairs there's a room with 2 beds (Queens I believe) and a full bath. Wi-Fi works fine. Text messages are no problem, but our cell phone signal was too weak for calls. No worry -- the Blums let you use the house landline. BTW, I called David with a question and he went out of his way to find the answer. From first to last he was easy to work with.
The king bed in the master bedroom has a fine mattress -- not too firm, not too soft. Opposite the bed is a picture window with a view of the woods. There are 2 sinks in the master bath, along with a separate shower, bidet, and jetted tub. A washer and dryer are nearby.
Believe every good word you read in these reviews about Bella's Junction Cafe less than 10 minutes from the house. Killer Portobello mushroom sandwiches for lunch one day and a filet mignon dinner the next night that was practically as good as the one I'd paid twice as much for the night before at Wolfgang's. Don't let the look put you off. Give Bella's a try and save room for dessert. My guess is you'll make a return visit for seconds!
An A+ experience in every way.
Our family of 5 needed a break from the SC heat and we were lucky enough to find this house. It is not too far from the Highlands but far enough away to feel secluded. Highland Gap is a wonderful subdivision and all you need to do is walk out of the front door and you are walking in the woods. We walked every day in the sub division. The house has a wonderful porch and a very nice kitchen and master bedroom. My daughters shared the upstairs bedroom and my son slept in the front den's fold out bed.
We scheduled a last minute getaway to the mountains I grew up visiting as a child. We wanted to give our 3 boys the same mountain experience. Though we weren't in the home much during the day, we enjoyed mornings and evenings in this cozy home nestled in the mountain side with a beautiful view of the mountains in the distance off of the nice deep back porch! The set up was perfect for our family. Our two younger boys took the bedroom with the two beds and our older son slept in the front sitting room. Each of those spaces had their own bathrooms. The master bedroom was spacious and has lovely window views of the lush woods surrounding the home. The kitchen was adequate for our needs. The living area had a large tv, but we only turned it on once for a few minutes. The views drew us outside. And when it was dark, we enjoyed the large family style table for games. We spent our days in either Highlands, Cashiers, Scaly Mountain, or up north whitewater rafting. We highly recommend this VRBO to anybody.
