Guestbook comments from the manager

We did enjoy our stay in the Munising area. Of course we did the usual toursit things like glass bottom boat tour and picture rocks tour. I think the most enjoyable part was staying at the cottage and relaxing. Being the typical american couple, we are always on the go!

I really liked the fact that this was in an area off the beaten path and it was so easy to walk the dogs every day on those dead end streets. They also loved the back yard, the stream serving as a "fence" they would not cross. I appreciate the fact that you allow people to bring their dogs, as for ourselves and many other people we know, we consider our dogs to be family. I know many people who would prefer to take their pets along on their travels so I will definately keep you in mind if any one needs a recommendation or we come back to the area.

Perfectly Convenient yet Secluded Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Evergreen Cottage for our first of hopefully many Dogcations. We sought out a location that would likely be a little more secluded from traffic, neighbors, and other fellow travelers as one of our pups is extremely fear-reactive to all things strange. Evergreen Cottage fit the bill perfectly! It was quaint inside; comfy bedrooms, nice open main rooms, bathroom a light tight but functional. The backyard space had enough separation from the neighbors to not be an issue for our guy so he, and by association, we were able to relax back there and enjoy the area. The location was perfect for a quick trip down the road to numerous Roadside Parks along Lake Superior where we were able to take the dogs to play without unwanted stimulation.

Bright cottage in woods

  • 5 of 5

Despite the rain, we enjoyed sightseeing and hiking in Munising area. And it was very nice to head back to Evergreen cottage in the evenings. Well kept, essential kitchen & bath supplies, very comfortable beds, a bright cottage tucked in quiet woods. Lazy nights spent watching Olympics and reading in a cozy setting. We even managed to have a fire in the outside pit one night. Would love to return for a fall color trip in the area.

A cozy place of rest

  • 4 of 5

The Evergreen Cottage was a nice size for our family of four looking for a place of rest. We loved the back yard with a clear stream running through it and beautiful trees. The kitchen was large enough for the little bit of cooking I wanted to do and it was a good location to launch from for other activities in the area. It was clean and I would definitely stay here again.

Not quite as expected

  • 3 of 5

I wouldn't really call this a cottage. It is a small house in a neighborhood. Disappointed we couldn't sit outside - at all - the mosquitos the end of May were horrific - had to make a mad dash into the car or house everytime we came or went from the cottage. Had two huge spiders share the house with us - one landed in my food bag that I found the morning after we arrived. The other showed up in our bed. Be aware the bathroom is extremely small with a very tiny shower. Bedrooms were small for the queen bed. One room the bed had to be against the wall - difficult to get in and out of. In general it was comfortable, clean and serviceable but not really a romantic cabin I was looking for. Manager was great about responding and experience in renting was fantastic. Loved the area.

Owner's Response: We appreciate all reviews. This one in particular has us confused because everything the guest wasn't happy about, from the size of the cottage to its location (in a small neighborhood), was known to her in advance as is clearly posted on this site as well as on our other personal site (plus there are pictures!). This is the first time she is notifying us that she was surprised by the size and location of the cottage so I'm forced to guess that maybe our U.P. nature got the best of her. Of course in a small cottage, one could expect a small bathroom, small bedrooms, etc. This is so that there can also be a cozy kitchen, living room with fireplace, dining area w/deck access and sunroom! The "tiny" shower is a normal size shower for a small bathroom. You can only get so much in a 1,000 sq foot cottage! :) The cottage has a large yard which is mostly secluded from the rest of the neighborhood due to it being so wooded here. There is a pretty stream that runs along the back of the yard and a fire pit there which is a quiet and peaceful place to hang out. This cottage is located in the U.P. and we have mosquitoes, spiders & lots of other creatures & wild life around. The mosquitoes are in fierce numbers this spring, but no one can predict it nor do anything about it but be prepared with bug spray. Nature kind of does it's own thing around here & never lets us know in advance, unfortunately. I'm sure as you read through our 30 other great reviews, you will figure this out on your own. We have many return, happy guests each year. Thank you!
