The perfect weekend retreat for nature and wine lovers alike. Situated amidst a Pinot Noir vineyard and overlooking a picturesque 6-acre lake, this charming French-style cottage offers the peace and serenity of a wine country setting but is only 4 quick miles from Healdsburg’s downtown attractions.
A cozy studio kitchen, dining area and living room with sofa bed open upon a Mediterranean garden with bubbling fountain and stairs leading down to the water’s edge. French doors give way from a spacious bedroom, furnished with antiques and romantic-canopied queen-sized bed, to a Wisteria-covered patio with bistro table and pair of rustic rocking chairs; the ideal setting for sipping a fine wine or enjoying a famous Downtown Bakery sticky bun.
Whether you’re interested in actively visiting the area’s many excellent wineries and bike trails, relaxing on the dock watching the local water fowl, or dozing in hammocks beneath the willow pergola, this cottage’s location and ambiance make it one of the most unique accommodations in the Sonoma wine country. A private lake, Pinot Noir vineyard and rose and lavender gardens offer plenty of different venues for relaxing and enjoying the peace and serenity of this rural retreat, just 4 minutes from the shops, restaurants and wine attractions of town.
We feel as though we hit the jackpot finding your guest house on VRBO! Thanks so very much for taking the time to make perfect suggestions for food and winderies. We will never forget our time in Healdsburg thanks to you.
We loved the location and serenity of this place! It seriously felt like home away from home. Everything we needed or wanted was provided in the spacious guest house. We enjoyed fishing in the lake, drinking wine, and relaxing all while being close to town and wineries. Our only regret is not staying longer!
This is our first time traveling to Healdsburg. We found this gem called Pension Amongst the Vines and thought we'd give it a try. And my, are we happy we did!
Jim and Ann, the owners were very responsive and helpful with our trip. But this is overshadowed by the sheer beauty and tranquility of the property. Located off the road along a winding path, Pension is set among rolling hills and fragrant grape vines. A small path through the vines leads to our private dock and lake where the bass fishing was spectacular. This was an unexpected highlight of our trip. The sunrise coupled with the mist beaming off the lake in the early morning is breath taking, peaceful and a welcomed escape from the city.
Without question we highly recommend Healdsburg and a stay at Pension Amongst the Vines...although for us, 2 days simply wasn't enough!
We stayed 5 nights (not long enough) and had time to relax in the beautiful serenity of the pension, gardens, vineyards and dock. We don't want to repeat other reviews but all that was said in them is true. It was completely private, luxurious and comfortable. Private gate opens to tree-lined gravel road and that leads to an amazing home and cottage set within the vines. You could just easily be driving on a small road to a villa in Tuscany. The cottage portion of the property is beautiful, as is everything else on this property. Jim and Ann left a very nice bottle of wine and came to greet us with enjoyable conversation and suggestions. They also were spot on with their recommendations - our favorite winerey not on our radar but Jim's suggestion (Benovia). We did not see them again ever until checkout - by their design- but were readily available by cell phone and text. Property is very close to downtown Healdsburg and its wonderful restaurants (Madrona Manor was like nothing we've ever experienced - $$$$ but 14 courses and each dish was a work of art and flavor; Scopa, Dry Creek, Dry Creek General Store, Parish Cafe our other favorites), family-oriented fourth of july celebrations and the wine road their property is located on led to great wineries, vineyards and winding roads (took Sweetwater Creek road to Armstrong Redwoods- dont miss this white knuckle drive). Many afternoons with wine and cheese sitting on their shaded dock on the pond watching blue heron, turtles and ducks. They have bikes that you can use to easily to get to a half dozen amazing wineries a short ride away. Little quail family so cute. Petanque court fun. Also have a small boat and fishing poles. Highly recommend - we travel alot and this property made us a VRBO fan and would stay here again any time. If you a looking for a romantic stay for two people in Sonoma Wine country you can't do any better than staying at Pension in the Vines.
When we booked the Pension, we were hoping that the property would be as nice as the pictures depicted and as good as the reviews sounded… and to our delight it was! We stayed here for two nights and loved the serenity and beauty surrounding the Pension. The room is lovely and comes equipped with everything we could have required. The bed was very comfy and the high-quality linens felt luxurious. When we arrived there, we were met with a warm, friendly welcome by owner Jim, and then we never saw him or his wife after that, though we knew they were available if we needed anything. The location is perfect; just a short five-minute drive into downtown Healdsburg, easy driving distances to loads of wineries, and only 30 minutes to Armstrong Redwoods State Park (highly recommended). We are already looking forward to staying here again, and we will wholeheartedly recommend staying here to our friends and family. Thank you Jim and Ann for opening up your beautiful, peaceful Pension for others to enjoy!
We loved our getaway to healdsburg! The property itself was gorgeous, private, and very comfortable. Only a few minutes driving to the downtown square we enjoyed great dinners and spent our days lounging on our own private dock...fishing, reading and drinking wine of course! Jim even left us a bottle of Pinot Noir to enjoy during our stay. It was a great way to decompress after our wedding. Perfect all the way around.
The "Pension" was a beautiful property, and a great location from which to explore Healdsburg and the surrounding wine country. My wife and I stayed here for three nights after a wedding on the coast, and it was really, really hard to leave.
The guest house is small but well-appointed, with countless loving touches - a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival, a lovely old Underwood at the desk in the bedroom, fishing gear ready to take down to the private pond, a pair of well-maintained bikes for exploring the area. The sheets on the bed were so soft, we had to find the tag so we can try to buy our own.
We spent hours lounging on the private dock, reading and soaking up sun. There were all kinds of beautiful birds - the whole property felt alive. And don't miss the Pétanque (bocce's Provence cousin) court up on the hill!
Ann and Jim were excellent, friendly hosts, quick to share suggestions on local wine and food. They were always accessible when we needed them, but otherwise left us in blissful privacy. The house has wineries on every side, including one directly next door (Matrix), and is less that a five minute drive from the foodie haven that is downtown Healdsburg.
We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!
