Lovely, well-appointed cottage for an island getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had a great weekend here. The kitchen was set up with everything we needed, the cottage was warm and cozy on a cool, wet weekend, and it was generally a wonderful home-away-from-home. The ocean views are stunning!

Galiano getaway

  • 5 of 5

Galeano is such a relaxing place to be, especially when staying at John and Sally's cottage on the ocean. We spent some time here recently, and have come regularly over the years, and always enjoyed the rustic charm of this place. Cozy beds, well appointed kitchen, crackling fire. Everything makes you feel like you're really away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Whether going for a walk, or hike, playing tennis, or heading down to the beach, you'll really feel the slow pace of life here. We even saw whales on our last visit! Would recommend this place to anyone - hands down.

A Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a very pleasant stay here - a beautifully serene place. The loudest sounds were the birds chirping and the waves washing against the rocks! The deck looks across Georgia Strait to a view from the Sunshine Coast down to Point Roberts- incredible. And at this time of year we saw both the sunrise and the sunset - not too many places can claim that!

Sally was a very gracious hostess, checking that we had all we needed and offering ideas for outings across Galiano.

The cabin was very well equipped and spacious for 2 and the wrap-around deck allows you to follow the sun (or the shade if you prefer it) all day. It is well situated 10 minutes outside Sturdies Bay (and thus gets away from the traffic and noise of the that part of the island) and near several dining places. We went to Babes in the Wood and Robin and the Crane - 2 excellent places to eat - and there are several other places nearby too.

We hiked Bodega Ridge (easy walk with amazing views) and Mount Galiano (harder but a great view) and enjoyed a stroll through Bellhouse Park watching the boating traffic go through Active Pass.

If I was to use one word to describe this cabin it would be "relaxing" - I would highly recommend it for a break from all the rush and tumble of our modern world.

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a peaceful, rustic cottage to get away to, this is an excellent choice. Situated right on the water, with a far-away view of Vancouver, a rocky shore offers pleasant walks and views, and lovely forest and moss surrounds. The cabin is very well appointed and cute, and the wrap around deck and wood burning stove were wonderful. It feels very much like borrowing a cottage from a friend. 100% recommend staying here. Only thing lacking is a hot tub!

This cabin is ideal for a couple, or a family with smaller children. Pet friendly. The bedroom is loft style with a double bed and two floor mattresses that would likely not be suitable for adults. It is the wrong season for tennis, but we saw a huge tennis court that looked great.

A few minor issues like the shower not draining well, BBQ being in need of maintenance, no cleaning brush in the kitchen were likely due to being at the end of the season. All very minor.

It says "Check-In/Check-Out is arranged to coincide with ferry schedules." This is misleading, as there are very few ferries and if you do not want to take the 9am one back, a late check-out fee of $50 applies (normal check out at 10:30)

Note that we were initially worried due to the owner communicating from a different email and phone number than listed here and asking for cash-equivalent payment, which ended up being due to them being on a trip & all was okay.

Owner's Response: We are happy that you were able to relax and enjoy Galiano. The main loft styled bedroom has a QUEEN BED, whereas the second loft area has two single beds on wooden bed frames with hand carved head boards , low to the ground, but off the floor, so that they are suitable for children but are adult sized, if required. Check in is arranged to be as soon as possible after you arrive on the island to allow you to start enjoying your stay; Check out is generally 10:30. If guests which to use the cottage until the evening ferry departs, a late check fee also makes this an option, so that your stay accommodates your schedule and choice of sailings.

A time to slow down...

  • 5 of 5

My husband and our seven year old son spent our first weekend at this cottage in March, and we will definitely return! Galiano in general is a place to sit back and relax, and this property certainly has everything you need to unwind. It's a beautiful cottage, very well furnished and outfitted. It is even nicer than in the photos. The property is private, right on the water, and the private tennis court is great for tennis and for the kids if they bring their bicycle, scooter, rollerblades, etc. The owners were a dream to deal with, and we would highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a get-away. Bonus - it's just one hour from the Mainlaind by ferry - but feels like a million miles away.

Island Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our island get-a-way and your seaside accommodations. Your beautiful post and beam home exceeded our expectations! You have a slice of paradise and we steeped ourselves in the relaxation that such a retreat offers. The many highlights include, the wrap around windows and deck so your guests can bask in brightness and views, the window seat which invites lounging, the wood-stove for cozy evenings, the ever changing shoreline for exploring and the peace and quiet that lends itself to tranquility!

If guests can peel themselves away, our top three island discoveries were the hikes to Matthew's Beach, Bluff Park and Bellhouse Park.
