About Rob Weinmann

I someday hope to retire at Lion Downe Cottage with my wonderful wife, Heather. In the mean time we both work in the Twin Cities and get down to visit as often as possible with our family.

Rob Weinmann purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Rob Weinmann chose Wisconsin

We chose to purchase Lion Downe Cottage as it is very close to the Twin Cities, has wonderful quaint towns nearby, great wildlife, fantastic restaurants, countless festivals, and is still one of the best kept secrets for a vacation!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for a great weekend! We loved the place even more than we expected after looking at all of the pics online! Hope to come back and visit again soon!!

Quiet and Romantic Retreat

  • 5 of 5

WOW-

My wife and I snuck out of town for a short weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We were hoping for a quiet setting where we could enjoy eachothers company, a bottle of wine and a cozy fire. The cabin provided everything were were looking for and much more. Matter of fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much we contacted the property owner and arranged to stay an additional night.

The cabin was stunning, it reminded me of a gingerbread house, strategically located on the ridge of the bluff top with a perfect view of the Mississippi River/Lake Pepin.

It was very clean and tastefully decorated. We easily found all of the items we needed for our stay and took advantage of a few of the extras we stumbled across like the sound system on the main floor. The large stone fireplace became the focal point of our stay. I like the fact that it was easy to start and there was plenty of dry wood within close reach.

The spring leafless trees provided a panoramic view of water from nearly every window. We took advantage of the warm weather and walked the upper property strolling through the heavily wooded lot, taking in nature at its best. The long driveway and lightly traveled access road were great for taking a walk any time of day- the views of the Rush River Valley were specatular. We caught sight of a few eagles as they made their way around the river valley, soaring in the sky and even landing in a tree very close to the cabin, it was quite the spectacle.

I would recommend this property for a romantic get away, a girls weekend or a guys weekend. There are many great golf courses in the area, fishing, boating or simply sharing time together.

Thanks Rob for sharing this wonderful property, we'll definitely be coming back.

STUNNING property!! WONDERFUL to work with!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough great things about this property and also working with the owner's! Our entire experience was great-- from the beginning stages of working with Rob who was always available and quick to reply, to the beautiful home that had everything we could have dreamed of. We rented the cabin for a girl's weekend and there was 12 of us and the house was the perfect size. Everyone got a bed and everyone kept talking about how it was the most comfortable beds they've ever slept in!

The views from the deck and absolutely stunning! We spent a lot of time on the deck and it was the perfect size with plenty of chairs and seating. The log cabin is even more beautiful that the photos show. We were all so happy!

Thank you again for a wonderful weekend! We've decided we'll be coming back every summer as long as the cabin is available to rent. THANK YOU!

Ladies Get-Away

  • 4 of 5

Your home was beautiful...the scenic overlook view spectacular. Just be careful taking your luggage down to the home...the wagon can indeed get away from you! The home was filled with all the amenities listed in the ad..very, very relaxing! And to top it off a huge eagle decided to land in the tree right outside the dining room window! Sleeping accommodations were a little strange for seventy year old women (climbing a ladder to the loft was definitely out!) but for a younger group it would be great.Totally enjoyed our brief stay. (PS...Bring bug spray!)

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review, we do love it when the eagles soar overhead or land in one of the trees outside of the Cottage!

The.canin is a amazing property, the view is breath taking, the cabin is spacious and beautiful.

We thoroughly enjoyed every minute we were there. We spent most of our time on the deck or in the hot tub. The weather was perfect. We had a larger group so the large table was great for eating and playing games at night. The sleeping was a little bit interesting but we made it work. Other then the mosquitos swarming while we loaded our cars I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Beautiful place

  • 3 of 5

This is a beautiful home, no doubt about it. It is unique and one of a kind. It is private and the view from the deck is unbeatable. It is comfortable to live in with plenty of comfy seating. The dining area allows for many to sit and eat. The linens on the beds are awesome and there are plenty of wonderful towels for all. There is a screened in porch that we named the "Grotto" that was epic. Super cool space to sit and enjoy the outdoors without bugs. We used it a lot. All that being said, there are a couple of things that people should be aware of before renting. The sleeping situation leaves a bit to be desired. There is only one king bed/private sleeping area. Everything else is wide open with no privacy. As soon as one person is up the rest almost have to be because of the noise. It is all open loft and the sound carries through. My husband and I had the loft bedroom. It was a queen size bed that sinks in the middle so was very uncomfortable. Our friends had the private room and said that was very comfortable with a great bed. The rest of the beds were great for kids but not so sure how great they would be for adults. There isn't any outdoor area other than the deck. There is no yard at all. So bean bags or any other yard game is out of the question. There were tons of great games and videos to watch though. There was plenty of charcoal to use but the gas grill didn't work. The bathroom showers were very tiny and the upstairs loft one was very oddly shaped and small. My overall impression was that if you are OK with living with no privacy then this place will work for you but if you want any privacy at all as a second couple, this won't work. Rob was great to respond to everything. We had a huge storm pass through and lost power, he got there as soon as possible to reset the generator that didn't kick in as it should. The generator powered everything and we never noticed not being on the grid at all. The cost of this place was maybe a little higher than it should be compared to other places we've rented do to the sleeping arrangements and lack of outdoor space. This all sounds negative but it is not meant to be. I just wish I would have had someone write these issues in a review so I would have known. It is a beautiful place and you'll never see anything like it anywhere. The gal who built this place put in some amazing touches in it that I appreciated immensely.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and kind words regarding the unbeatable view, beautiful Cottage and amazing touches! The open spaces are definitely best for close friends and families, if there is a heavy snorer in the group or light sleepers a set of earplugs might be a good idea. ;) Although the gas grill was only two years old we replaced it with a brand new one once we found out it wasn't working (it is amazing how fast they can rust inside!) Thankfully we always have an extra charcoal grill or two on hand just in case. We have had many past reviewers comment on how comfortable our beds are and several ask where we purchased them because they enjoyed sleeping in them so much they wanted to buy one for their own home! Sounds like it might be time to replace one though, fortunately the factory is in town so we can have one made fairly quickly. There are 40 acres of private forest surrounding the Cottage to play games in and explore, we play bean bag toss and other similar games up the stone path by the parking area where there is a nice flat open space.
