Space 950 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms with new mattresses 2008, 1 bath, sleeps 6

Welcome to Mountain Laurel Cottage on Norwich Lake. Available May 15-Oct.15. You'll feel as though you've been transported back to a simpler time when you step from the huge screened porch into the open living area with fieldstone fireplace. Living area flows into the original 1947 retro kitchen complete with modern appliances. Two bedrooms with two twin beds that can be put together to make a king. The living area has a trundle bed couch which opens to a queen or separated for twins. The porch has 3 loungers and a daybed. One bath with large shower. The cottage is set up and back from the dirt road on over an acre of land with amazing sunset views over the Berkshire Mountains. The lake is behind the cottage, a quick drive or 10 minute walk to the lakefront and private dock with a canoe and paddle boat. You'll be inspired for many outdoor activities! Or relax on the porch with a good book or one of the many games or puzzles as there is no TV, just a radio/CD player and piano.

Lake activities: Many hiking trails and amazing views. The lake is pristine and fairly quiet especially during the week, you may be one of just a few folks out on the water. Weekends get a bit busier but never crowded. Swimming, boating, fishing or just floating away the afternoon. Hampshire YMCA in Northampton operates Camp Norwich on the lake with week long day camp programs for kids. You relax while the kids splash the days away.

Close attractions.: The lake is only 20 minutes from Northampton, a thriving university town and cultural center offering theater, the arts, antiquing and the best dining found anywhere. Spa services are available at many local shops. It is only 35 minutes from Lee and Lenox, home of Tanglewood, great antiquing also and shopping outlet.

great retreat: Mountain Laurel is 20 minutes from Smith College and 40 minutes from Amherst College and UMASS Amherst. 45 minutes to Mount Holyoke and Hampshire Colleges making it a nice place for summer students. Or a quiet writers retreat.

Wonderful, peaceful stay.

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect spot to forgot all your worries and get away from it all. We enjoyed every moment of our relaxing stay. We loved the feel of the rustic cabin. The fireplace was the icing on the cake! We throughly enjoyed gazing and relaxing by the fire. There are nice hiking trails right up the street, the lake was serene, everything was perfect. The only problem was we didn't want to leave!

A Spring Tradition

  • 5 of 5

Back again for the fifth time with Denise and Chad at the cottage. Every spring we look forward to our trip and stay at the cottage. Peace and quiet, friendly neighbors and superb hosts! It is nice to take a break with our friends at Mountain Laurel. Our trip this year was again top notch. Already booked next year.

Back in time

  • 5 of 5

What a relaxing stay if only for the weekend! The place was rustic and everything a vintage cabin in the woods should be. Denise and Chad supplied the firewood and Mother Nature a rainy day by which to sit by the fire. Also we spent the day on the lake swimming and using the paddle boat. The four of us and our water loving dog had a great time there. Best of all, we didn't have to worry about alligators-we're from South Louisiana and swimming in the bayous at home is not quite as carefree as Norwich Lake. Can't wait to find a longer week in the spring for some R&R back at the cabin. Thanks Denise and Chad.

Owner's Response: Hi Kate and friends, It was so great to meet you! Thanks so much for all of your kind words about the cottage and your experience here at Norwich Lake! We're so glad that you got to relax and experience stress free swimming. Even with the alligators, we may just take you up on a visit to your place this winter. If it's anything like last winter here, I say it's worth the risk. Thanks for the offer and we will keep you posted. Again, we were delighted to host your time here in Western MA and would love to see you in the spring. Returning guests get a discount so please keep us posted. Thanks and happy new semester! Kind regards, Denise and Chad

Great place! Can't wait to go back!

  • 5 of 5

Denise and Chad were wonderful from the first email until the return of my deposit check. Traveled with my friend and our dogs and I don't know who had a better time. The house was lovely and comfortable and the dogs enjoyed the walk to the lake and a swim before walking home. I was a little concerned about being in a house in July with no a/c but I was actually cold a couple of nights. Thankfully I packed extra blankets and we didn't need the space heaters. Looking forward to returning next year! Thanks again Denise and Chad!

Turkey Camp

  • 5 of 5

This was a return visit to the Mountain Laurel Cottage for myself and 4 of my "Turkey Hunting Buddies". Once again we had an awesome time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and our stay. The cottage was just as we remembered it. Quiet nights and a warm fire with friends telling stories (and maybe a few white lies) about hunting adventures. The cabin was just perfect for us. It was clean and comfortable. Once again Chad and Denise couldn't have been more accomodating. Definitely a place to keep in mind for Fall Deer season too.
