If you have never tried snowshoeing, you don't know what you are missing! We are often the only people out on the trails and we can go anywhere we can hike, no need for a groomed trail. The beauty of the area is always there but there's something really special about seeing it all coated in snow. The bare trees allow for views you don't see in the summer. Strap on some snowshoes on your next winter trip and see for yourself, it's amazing!
Jo purchased this cabin in 2002
We go to the north shore as often as we can, sometimes several times a year. We finally decided owning a home 'up north' made sense for us so we bought a vacation home in Lutsen. Of all the areas along the north shore, Lutsen has the most activities nearby making it a great place to go for an active vacation. We love to hike, snowshoe, golf and of course, watch the 'big lake', all of which we can do within 1/2 a mile of our home.
Our home is one of only 12 homes that share 20 acres, it's not part of a resort so it's quiet and private but still really close to everything we love to do in Lutsen. We appreciate being out on our screen porch or deck and seeing trees and the lake, not other buildings. What made us fall in love with it is the decor. The home was built in 2001 and decorated right after September 11th so the builder's professional decorators chose a red and white and blue color scheme, it's very colorful and so unique. When we say it's cute, it really is, people love staying here.
We have returned to Kansas and it is over 100 here today, not the beautiful Minnesota weather we have
grown used to this last week. A wonderful stay was had by all and hopefully, we will get to return sometime in the future.
Thank you for sharing your cozy cabin with us. We will be sure to pass the info to any of our friends who may be heading your way.
We were so fortunate to have discovered this vacation home! It was so charming - an idyllic North Shore cabin! Very clean and spacious too. Lutsen and surrounding towns are wonderful. The food, shopping, scenery and outdoor activities are second to none. We especially enjoyed Hughies Tacos and Cook County Whole Foods Cafe in Grand Marais and Moguls Grille & Tap Room in Lutsen. We were very impressed with the skiing at Lutsen Mountain as well. We are already planning our next stay and are excited to share it with our children this time too.
The cabin was what I was hoping for and more. The cabin is just down the street from the Lutsen ski resort and we all had a great time skiing and relaxing back at the cabin. I felt very comfortable staying at the cabin as it not only was clean but had all the amenities we needed to have a great trip. The kids especially loved the open living area where we played games most nights.
We'll be back.
We visit Lutsen annually as a family for skiing and some socializing, which usually include table games. Solitude was by far the best home for our stay yet, and we've been doing this for more than 20 years. It was convenient -- right on the road going up to Lutsen Mountain, spacious for a family of 8, and just the right accommodation for our games, interaction, cooking/eating and, well, socializing. And the views of the lake and surrounding woods are spectacular, particularly with fresh Winter snowfall in the trees. We found the accommodations spot-on clean, tidy, and user-friendly. Our host, Jo, was more than accommodating and friendly. We will make a point of coming back.
We had a fantastic time while staying at this beautiful home.
It is centrally located between the things we wanted to do. We spent a day in Grand Portage and Grand Marias which was a nice drive along the coast with several locations to stop along the way to take in the view.
The home worked well for our group of 6 adults and 2 children. The deck on the back of the home was really nice to be able to relax after our long days of hiking and shopping. The screen porch was a nice feature at night when the bugs came out. We had a campfire each night and even enjoyed one night of the super moon which lit up the whole area.
We enjoyed our time in Lutsen and this home was perfect for our group.
The owner Jo did a wonderful job to ensure we would have a great time and was very pleasant to work with.
We will come back the next time we are in the area.
We rented mid-summer for a week in July and the weather could not have been more perfect! Sunny and mid 70's every day. We saw one 20 min. rain shower all week. There is so much to see and do on the North Shore, mainly we hiked and visited waterfalls (Cascade, Temperance River Gorge, and Pigeon Falls (up at the border) were the best), although we toured Split Rock Lighthouse, drove up to Grand Marais for dinner at the Angry Trout, and took the mountain tram ride up at the ski resort as well. The appliances looked new and the place was very clean and well kept, we even grilled a couple meals on the charcoal grill provided. This was a great vacation experience for our family, and I would say that if you're vacationing on the North Shore and you don't seriously consider Lutsen Solitude you are doing yourself a disservice. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, we would rent here again.
Five of my best friends and I wanted to get away from the Twin Cities to ski for the weekend, this was the PERFECT cabin for our trip! It is the quintessential cabin home and is in such a beautiful location. We literally woke up the first morning to a sunlit view of the lake and deer in the yard. Plus, it's less than five minutes down the road to the ski hill! The kitchen is fully equipped, the towels are soft, the beds are cozy, and it's the perfect open living space to gather around the fire and play games. We are already planning our return for a summer getaway!
The newest section of the Gitchi-Gami State Trail was just completed and it starts just down Ski Hill Road from our home. Now you can bike or walk on a dedicated asphalt path all the way to Schroeder!
More big news, the Caribou Express high speed chair lift will be installed for the 2013/14 ski season!
Coming soon! North Shore Winery and micro brewery is being built across from our home. We will add an update here when it opens.
Enjoy a sleigh ride, sled dog ride, cross country skiing, or snowshoeing along Lake Superior's North Shore at Lutsen Resort less than 1/2 a mile away. Sleigh rides are also available at Cascade Lodge.
