About Mr Michael Ryan

Christine my wife and our family moved down from the city some 20 years ago to live the quieter country life. We were both originally from the locality and we were lucky enough to be able to return and be closer to our familys. Our family has now grown and we enjoy the activity of the holiday home and love meeting the guests young and old who come to stay.

Mr Michael Ryan purchased this bungalow in 2009

Why Mr Michael Ryan chose County Tipperary

Location, Location Location, when planning a touring holiday in Ireland you should give serious consideration to where you set up camp, a central location is one of the most important decisions you make, for instance if you decide to stay in Kerry - (a lovely spot I might add), you will end up travelling the same roads out of Kerry to see new places and waste valuable touring time.

There is no place south of Dublin that you cannot comfortably visit from our house on day trips and not have plenty of time to have a good look around , have lunch and return to the house and relax in the Hot Tub and share the days highs and lows over a few beers.

If you don't feel like cooking then "The Venue Restaurant" which is approx 150 metres from the house offers very good food at reasonable prices and is usually open until 9pm for last orders.

Golf and Castles, lots of them within easy striking distance - download the App "Golf Now" for the best discounts.

Lots of litrature in the house for Fishing, Horse Riding, Mountain Biking, we can also provide a Mini Bus service from the local operator if you feel like catching a meal and a show in Bru Bru in Cashel and everybody can have a few glasses of wine. My wife or niece can provide a babysitting service if required.

What makes this bungalow unique

This house is tailor made to accommodate medium size groups because of its size and . As one of our guests told me recently 'it is nice to be with everybody but it is also nice to be able to be alone as well' this house offers you the space to do this with its many living areas and the large gardens are ideal for the young ones to have a game of football or just sit out and relax if the weather is good.

This property overlooks Dundrum Town and country Club which has a Hotel with an 18 hole golf course fitness centre, swimming pool, restaurant and bar.

It is also very near to Dundrum Village which has 2 supermarkets, a butcher shop, betting office, doctors surgery, chemist, filling station and garage, hardware shop and a Bar. Centra supermarket in the village offers a very wide range of goods including wines and spirits and would compete with any medium to large supermarket in a city for price, quality and variety of produce.

A new addition to the village is "The Cafe" which offers "Full Irish Breakfast" from 8am to 11am and Lunch from 11am to 4 pm.

This area appeals to a lot of our clients because it is very central for touring the southern part of Ireland in other words it is equidistant North, South, East and West for day trips all around the south of Ireland.

There are also several Heritage sites including the Rock of Cashel and Holycross Abbey each about 12 kilometres from the house.

The Glen of Aherlow just outside Tipperary offers some of the most picturesque spots in Ireland, here they do various activities like mountain biking and horse riding during the season.

If shopping on the agenda then Limerick, Clonmel and Kilkenny (For the ladies) fashions.

Kilkenny City is a fabulous city not just for the shopping, it is a lovely heritage city and has a vast number of restaurants plus it is just a lovely place to walk around.

Cashel Town is just 12 km away and is famous for 'The Rock of Cashel' and 'Hoare Abbey' but it can be a bit of a tourist honeycomb and may not offer the value that the rural areas will offer for a night down at the pub.

Tipperary town is about 8 kilometres away and is more of a market town but it has 4 multi national supermarkets Tesco, Dunnes, Aldi and Liddl. There is also a multiplex cinema which is also the heritage centre if you are trying to trace distant relatives. Friday is market day so best avoided unless of course you wish to buy a few cows.

Just outside the village of Dundrum on the Tipperary there is a forest walk which is about a 1.5 kilometre walk around it. Many locals visit it during the day just to do a bit of jogging, walking and in the centre there is a small pond and if you are lucky the Swans might be residing there depending on the time of year. Please be careful not to get too close to the swans especially if they have their young with them, by all means feed them from a distance but not to be trusted.

The golf course in the hotel next door is open to the public at reasonable rates for green fees and so also is the leisure centre with special rates to guests at our house.

There is a taxi service just across the road - small minibus if you fancy going out for a few drinks and he will pick you up later when you want to come home.

Cappawhite village is about 4 kilometres away ant that also has a leisure centre but it also has an indoor 5 a side pitch - good for the rainy days - very reasonable rates.

The Doctors surgery is open 6 days a week and charges about 45 euros a visit, it is usually quite busy so you might have a little wait.

The nearest hospital is in Cashel.

My favourite Sunday drive is up through Hollyford, through Nenagh and on to the Shannon, it only takes about 1 hour to get there but the rugged countryside on the way is worth the journey.

What a beautiful home, it had everything we needed for twelve people. would highly recommend.

  • 5 of 5

We had a party of twelve eight adults, two teenagers, and two children. This house had everything we needed. We stayed in other homes while in Ireland no comparison to this home.

Michael and his wife were so kind to us they had a lovely pot of soup and dessert waiting for us when we got there, and it was just what we needed after the long journey. The children enjoyed the hot tub they used it every day. We felt like we knew this couple all our lives, that's how they made us feel. The bedrooms were very comfortable and each room had a shower. They even had a hook up for our phones that made it so convenient to charge them especially coming from the USA. We enjoyed sitting outside on the patio we could see the golf course from where we were sitting. Would defiantly rent this home again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely review Margaret, it was lovely to meet you all, we are always aware that our guests have been travelling and it is the least we can do to have a light meal ready when they arrive. Hope your return trip to US was not as traumatic as your outward journey, hope you enjoyed your stay at the castle, must have been very exciting, we wish you all the very best in the future, you have our email if you ever need to practice your Blarney experience, and happy 50th wedding anniversary. Very best Michel and Chrisine

Amazingly good experience in the house

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in Michael and Christine's house. They helped us to get there as we get lost and received us like we were in our home. They were really nice to us, helping us with doubts about the house and with little inconvenients. The house is perfect, incredibly clean and nice, it is comfortable for big groups as it has a lot of space. Plus, it is well situated, we could visit places such as Limerick, Cashel, Dublin, Cork... Only taking the car and within 1 or 2 hours drive (sometimes less, like 15 minutes). It is a perfect place for big groups or families, really comfy and the owners are really attentive and nice, such a great experience there, I totally recommend it!

Owner's Response: Thank you E for taking time to do this review , yes we remember our lost Spanish family, when we eventually found them all we could see was 7 smiling lost faces, they were only a 100 meters from the house, this family were perfect holiday tennants, mind you I'm not sure if the car rental company will be happy with the miles they put up. Hope you will return some day. M and C

We had a wonderful time at the Dundrum House!

  • 5 of 5

Ten of us stayed at the Dundrum House for a week, my son and his wife with three kids, my daughter, her husband and two kids, and myself. We had plenty of comfortable bedrooms, each with it's own bath, a full kitchen with all the appliances, a living room/dining room combined, a separate living room, and even laundry facilities. The kids had plenty of room to play and enjoyed the hot tub (with parental supervision) and the playground equipment. We used Dundrum House as our base for reasonable day trips all over southern Ireland, never having to venture more than 2-3 hours driving time. Two nights we ate at the pub at the Dundrum House Hotel where we felt very comfortable with the kids, one night enjoying some late music and dancing. We might have played golf at the hotel, but it was a bit rainy and we were otherwise doing things with the kids. We also enjoyed Bertie's Pub in Dundrum. It was convenient to have the laundry facilities since we were there for the week.

Michael and Christine could not have been more hospitable. They ensured that we were comfortable in the house, knew how to operate the appliances, and gave us sightseeing tips. They were not only good hosts, but became good friends! We would definitely go back. Its a wonderful place for a family to stay that is traveling together. Much more comfortable than having to get 3-4 hotel rooms. It's a winner!

Owner's Response: Thank you Geoff for submitting this lovely review, we loved having you in our holiday home, you have a lovely family, we enjoyed your stories of Ballycotton East Cork and your personal life experiences, Nora stole our herts with her blondy hair and sleepy eyes in the morning, she coped well with her trip to Tipperary, we had never been to East Cork so we went down for 3 days and we had a ball. Very best in the future to you all. Michael and Christine

Exactly what we wanted

  • 5 of 5

As a family we have stayed in quite a few properties and the overall decision is that this is the best house we have stayed in. For a large group of 13 we had the space we needed and the house felt like home. My mother who is 87 years enjoyed her stay and loved the house. Thanks Michael & Christine for being great hosts. We would certainly recommend this property to friends and family.
