|Minimum Stay||3 - 10 nights|
Our two bedroom ocean front condo is conveniently located on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona. This condo was recently remodeled with new furniture, kitchen cabinets and granite countertops. It is one of the most desirable units in the complex with a wrap around lanai that looks directly out to the ocean.
You can sit on the lanai and watch the surfers directly across the street when the surf is up. In the winter months, you will likely see dolphins playing or whales breaching. You can enjoy all of this while sipping a cool drink from the lanai.
The serene, lush tropical grounds of Royal Kahili are well maintained. You may read a book near the Japanese Koi pond where you are instantly relaxed from the tranquil sounds of the waterfall. You can also watch the waves of the Pacific Ocean from the heated swimming pool area which has a BBQ and picnic tables with a shaded cabana.
This is a great place to play cards or have dinner while watching the sunset. A short walk to the left on Alli Drive will take you to the famous White Sands Beach or to the most popular snorkeling beach where you will likely have a chance to swim with the turtles. Walk a quarter mile to the right to purchase gifts at the Ali's Gardens MarketPlace.
We also love to stroll a couple miles down the road to enjoy a cup of Kona coffee at the Lava Java right in the heart of Kailua-Kona town. This town is enjoyed by many who come for shopping, dining, beaches, and night life.
We have stocked this unit with everything you need from boogie boards, games, books, videos, beach towels, beach chairs, ice coolers, stereo, DSL wireless internet, and more.
Our family of seven has had many great memories in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island. There are so many activies we have enjoyed. Some of our favorites include Kayaking out Captain Cook's Monument and swimming with the dolphin, watching the lava at dusk, cliff diving at 'End of the World', hiking to Maklawena Beach, the most beautiful place just to name a few. Our condo has allowed us to spend quality time as a family, which is most important to us. Our condo at the Royal Kahili has all the amenities to make you feel at home. Our hope is that our hospitality makes you feel welcome and will allow you to create your own special memories.
Kevin Smith purchased this condo in 2007
Wow factor!!! Views!!!
Small enough to feel like part of a community, large enough to have a beautiful tropical landscape, pool, conversation pit and outdoor jacuzzi!!
I visited the Big Island for the first time with my two teenage daughters. We stayed here for a few nights and in a high-end resort in Waikola for a few nights. Hands down, they preferred this condo. They loved the condo itself, the community feel, the pool that felt pretty private, the view from the balcony, and the location. The street is a bit busy, but you can't hear it with doors closed or at night. We were close to town and a stellar snorkeling beach. It was great to have a "home" to come back to and the comforts of home so convenient. Also, we were there when a big storm was predicted (never materialized - thank goodness). Kevin was available and responsive when I asked him how I should prepare. Great property- great owner.
My wife, and I stayed at the condo for a week in June 2016 and let me tell you, the pictures of the condo do not do it justice. It is a well remodeled, clean, nice condo with an amazing view! The condo was stocked with snorkel gear, beach towels, beach chairs, and boogie boards which was really nice! The condo is only a few minute drive from downtown Kailua which has all the Hawaiian stores and restaurants you could want to visit. Driving the other direction you can be at several nice swimming areas (beaches, but they can be rocky... but that's the nature of the big island) in a matter of minutes. If you're lucky, the Magic Sands beach will have sand during your stay, it did during ours. We would highly recommend staying in this condo, and will probably do so again next family vacation!
The only thing I would mention is that if you have a little baby the vertical supports for the railing on the balcony are wide enough for a baby's head and sideways body to go through. No big deal, we just made sure the screen door stayed closed so our 11 month old did not go out there alone.
My 1st ever visit to Kona on the was a complete surprise.
I have been accustomed to Waikiki, Oahu & Lahiana, Maui, for my past Hawaiian vacations. However what I discovered in Kona was the Hawaii, that suits me best at this time and for the feeling of a Hawaiian vacation.
Kevin & Cindy's home is so relaxing and enjoyable with the sounds and feeling of Hawaii all around the Royal Kahili... you will just want to sit on the deck and watch the surfers off in the distance and wait for the tides to bring the Sea Turtles in to the Lagoon. That's right... I forgot to mention the sunset... But being from the West Coast, I still am amazed by how I even stop to watch it.... Can't explain how a Hawaiian Beach Sunset, is different than a California Beach Sunset, but it is...
Everything that anyone could want from a Tropical Vacation, this property has so beautifully provided. The lushness of the foliage to the Geckos, crawling on the vegetation.
All the conveniences of home, is the experience that this property has to offer during your visit/ stay at their home. The main village of Kona is a wonderful, easy walk, jog, or bike ride with all the feelings of all the major tourist Islands and yet so much more "Laid Back, Hawaiian Style"....
The Royal Kahili property is a beautiful place to rest and recreate on your vacation.
I would highly recommend this property, for your vacation.
I stayed here with my husband, two preschoolers, and elderly relatives and we had a great time. My kids enjoyed the pool, koi ponds and green space around the condo. it was especially handy while we waited for others to get ready. the condo itself was well stocked including lots of toys and stuff for the beach. the location was good in general. it wasnt super walkable with small kids (would be fine with just adults) but within easy driving distance to lots of attractions/amneities etc. we spent many evenings on the lanai enjoying the view. thanks for letting us use your beautiful condo!
My family and I have stayed at dozens of vrbo rentals all over the world with great experiences. This is unfortunately the first negative review we have had to give. For the benefit of fellow vrbo'ers, I will be as objective as possible. First, the good: The condo is very nicely updated. It was spacious, and extremely clean when we arrived. The road noise wasn't too bad, and unnoticeable when inside. The property owner was very quick and helpful in his communications (more on that later). The condo was also very well stocked with everything you may need during your stay. Next, the bad: we had an issue with ants in the kitchen (to be fair, this is an issue with many tropical rentals, and it was mostly resolved with the supplied ant killer. Also, there is no outside area for kids to play that is outside the pool area-which brings me to the ugly: On our second day at the rental, I was at the pool with our three children who have been champion swimmers and surfers for the last four years, and are extremely competent in large seas as well as a pool. I forgot my phone in the condo, and made the roughly 30 second round trip to the condo to retrieve it. My wife was on the lanai overlooking the pool. In that 30 seconds, the property manager yelled at my kids to get out of the pool. My wife even heard it from the lanai. No problem, rules are rules. The property manager never approached me or my wife to address his issue. Instead, I received a nasty, condescending, accusatory, borderline belligerent call from the property owner about two minutes later. In this conversation, I was not allowed to get a word in. I was read the riot act on everything from leaving my kids for 30 whole seconds while my wife was watching from the patio, to allowing them to wear fins in the pool (which were in the pool area toy box for guests to use), to letting my kids in the hot tub (which was unheated and allowed in the house rules). I have never in my adult life been talked to like that. Once he was done with me, he started in on my wife over the phone. We were in disbelief how things could have escalated over practically nothing, and disgusted by the way we were treated. We have no idea why the property manager couldn't have simply come out and talked to us. It really soured our trip, and made us feel very unwelcome. Honestly, if you do not have kids with you, it would probably be four or five star worthy, but I would NOT recommend bringing kids.
Everything was as advertised. You could tell the condo was used by the owner so we felt like we were visiting a families get away. All the amenities and essentials plus the beach gear were included. I had last stayed at this complex in 1991 and it has been greatly improved. The pool and barbeque areas especially. The weather was the biggest surprise. The locals said they don't remember it being so hot. 90+ during the day so the cool ocean breezes were non existent. Only being able to cool the condo off to 77 was unfortunate. The fact that the thermostat turns off after midnight and can only be reset for a couple of hours at a time meant waking up all sweaty and having to turn it on. Unless you don't mind the heat and humidity I'd negotiate for another 2 degrees on the ac and not an automatic shut-off after a set time, other than that it was a great place to vacation and we'd stay again.
