About the property

Townhome, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

The Florida Keys are considered the American Caribbean and feature swaying palm trees and turquoise waters, world class fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, sailing and kayaking. Our Villa is perfectly located in middle keys known as “the heart of the Florida keys”. Duck Key is home to the destination resort areas of Hawks Cay Resort and The Village at Hawks Cay and a beautiful residential development.

Our Villa is located within the Village at Hawks Cay on Sunset Village Drive. Come and enjoy the spectacular ocean views of Tom’s Harbor from our villa.

The Villa is a two story town home featuring 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and a TV, DVD player in the master, and one with twins and a flat screen TV and 2 baths and laundry upstairs. Downstairs there is a full kitchen, with cookware, dishes and utensils. The dining room and living room is decorated with a tropical décor. The living room has a large flat screen TV and DVD player and over looks a spacious lanai with views of Tom’s Harbor. Enjoy the Sunset Views from spacious lanai’s located downstairs and off the master bedroom upstairs.

Our backyard faces the beautiful shoreline of Tom’s Harbor, a secluded cove with calm waters and beach pockets. Fish from the shoreline; launch your kayak or Jet Ski. Anchorage for boats near the shoreline is possible. Boat dockage may be available at request.

Resort attractions include a marina offering Boat dockage and rentals, Jet Ski and Kayak rentals, boat charters, sailboat trips, scuba diving, snorkeling, a well stocked marina store and the Waters Edge Restaurant within walking distance of the Villa.

Drive ten minutes to the town of Marathon and you will have your choice of many restaurants, and bars along with fishing charters and dive operations. Have breakfast at the “Pig”, maybe lunch at the “Keys Fishery”. Try a happy hour at “Sparkeys Landing” and meet the locals. Just don’t dress up, they’ll look at you funny. Enjoy the casual lifestyle…you’re in the Keys!

The Florida Keys also boasts some of the best fishing in the states. If your preference is to fish offshore on the reef for sailfish, mahi, or grouper, just take the channel out of Duck Key and you are only five miles away. For those who like the challenge of stalking the flats for bonefish, you have come to the right place. A short ten minute boat ride out of Tom’s Harbor will bring you to some of the best flats fishing in the Middle Keys.

Bring your fly rod or light tackle and be prepared for a good time. But don’t stop there. Head on out to the gulf side to the “Back country” and fish the “white spots” for snapper. Bring your own boat, rent a boat, hire a guide, wade fish, or fish off the bank; it’s all available at The Village at Hawks Cay.

Scuba Diving in the Florida Keys offers the best diving in continental United States. Many dive sites are located within easy reach of Duck Key, including the very popular Sombrero Reef and Coffin’s Patch. Dive trips, snorkeling, and snuba are available at the marina, and in nearby Marathon.

Need more to do? Spend an afternoon at one of the many nearby state parks for nature walks, birding, and beach combing. Long Key State Park, Bahia Honda State Park, Crane Hammock, and Anne’s Beach are all within an easy drive from Duck Key. Take a walk in Duck Key which has many great walking paths and views, or stop by at any one of many marinas around 3:00 pm and see the charter boats bring in their catch.

Take a walk on the wild side. Enjoy the Keys on your hands and knees! Key West is an hour’s drive south to mile marker 0, 90 miles from Cuba. Enjoy the many restaurants, bars, music, shopping, and of course, the sunset.

Just so-so

  • 2 of 5

First off, let me start by saying that the owner was SO nice of the help me out when we landed in Fort Lauderdale and realized we booked the wrong date and needed to stay there that night - she got back to me quickly and we were able to go straight there (I had booked for the next night). When we got there though, it just really didn't seem clean. The carpet on the stairs is filthy. Seeing the carpet like that made me not want to touch anything else there with fabric the couch, the bedspreads - I just imagined them being not clean. Then little things, like there was one teeny tiny sample size bottle of shampoo - for 5 people to use for 4 nights (had to make a special trip to the store). You're supposed to wash the pool towels before you go but there was maybe a drop of laundry detergent - we had to fill the bottle with water to get every last bit of detergent (how clean are those towels now?? yuck!). Barely any dish soap either. We went to use the gym at the resort and were told that the unit has no resort privileges. We stay in a lot of VRBOs and most really feel like home - this one is not one of those, more like an empty furnished apartment. Not bad, but not great either.

Owner's Response: Elicia, I apologize about the condition of the carpet on the stairs and I appreciate your feedback. The carpet is being cleaned prior to the next guest and I am making plans to replace it as well. Housekeeping usually leaves shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet paper in each bathroom as well as items such as dish soap, laundry and dishwasher tabs, trash can liners, paper towels under the kitchen sink. Coffee filters are usually in the cabinet above the coffee pot. My personal contact information and my housekeeping contact information is shared with each guest in the book in the unit. If either of us were aware we would have made arrangements to have these items delivered if not available. Thank you for sharing and I apologize for any inconvenience that you may have had.

Our new favorite destination spot!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I traveled to the Keys for the first time ever 2 years ago with our daughter and I can truly say it's our new favorite spot! We booked our vacation spot in this cozy, gorgeous rental. We can't say enough about how much we enjoyed everything about it which included the gorgeous views, tropical plants surrounding the condo, iguanas running around outside, and the pool steps away from the back door. The inside was very accommodating as well and appreciated everything included; pots and pans, silverware, towels, comfortable beds and washer and dryers for our convenience. Their location is also cool considering you're not far from Key West, shopping, restaurants and fun adventures are also very close. My absolute favorite is pulling in and seeing their gorgeous entrance, well kept property and when leaving the resort the Palm trees overlooking the water! We loved it so much we went back this past June and plan to make this a once a year vacation spot!! Looking forward to next summer and making many more memories there!!

Love this place the second I opened the door. It was decorated beautifully inside and out. The view from all the porches were magnificent. Loved watching the iguanas drinking my morning coffee and then my wine as the sunset before my eyes. Will return, thank you Laura.

Does NOT meet the reviews we read

  • 1 of 5

We don't complain and always read reviews - this one is an exception. The photos are deceiving. The BR's are small and furniture squeezed in. There was so much furniture in the LR that we had to remove a DR chair so we could accommodate 3 of us using the DR table. That was just a nuisance here is the BIG problem. The place was dirty - Stair carpet-DIRTY - Baseboards throughout had not been cleaned in ages - Opened the closet and dust & dirt swirled - Tubs in both bathrooms didn't drain - Rusted light above tub in master bath, hair dryer didn't work & the hook on the back of the door was upside down so you couldn't hang anything on it - Mold in both baths - Dirty mop & dust pan left in half bath on main level - ISH! - Door knobs coming off - Disposal was so loud we dug junk out but still continued to be a problem - didn't use any more. These were the items we could see - we were concerned about the bed coverings - how dirty were they? We contacted the owner upon our return who said they had just been there the previous weeks and did not find these problems. That could not possibly be true. All of the reviews we read were from mid-2015, this place has drastically changed. We have never asked for a refund and were sent $50 refund for this filthy place. I would not recommend this place. The area was fabulous - close to highway - water - walking - very nice pool - resort across the street. That could not be better. I would look for another property in this development before signing on to this rental.

Owner's Response: I have given a lot of thought to your emails regarding your rental experience. I am sorry you felt you had a bad experience and seemed very upset regarding the furniture layout. Our website has pictures of each room which clearly show the furniture and size of the rooms. As you know the rooms are small. It is difficult to find good quality furniture that is comfortable and looks nice in a smaller size, so unfortunately it can be a give and take situation. Our resort preferred program has similar size furniture. Many of your comments regarded some items not working and the overall cleanliness of the unit are a concern to me. I have given your feedback to our housekeeping staff. I leave my local manager’s number as well as my own on my welcome letter sent in advance so if there are any issues that need to be addressed they can be taken care of immediately so our guests can enjoy their stay. You did confirm receipt of that letter, but you never contacted my house manager or me during your stay and I have responded to your emails regarding this. I am very open to giving concessions if a guests notifies me and I cannot fix an issue promptly during their stay or they are caused an inconvenience. I have had to do that rarely. It seems that if you were entirely unhappy with everything about the unit you would have contacted me immediately and given me an opportunity to correct it versus requesting a full refund for your stay. You noted in your last email that you were aware of several items the morning after your arrival. I have spoken to my housekeeping staff and I do not believe that this is typical of a stay in our home. All items you mentioned have been checked and either were or are now in working condition. Most reviews prior have reflected that the accommodation was clean and comfortable as well as a great location. I have been personally in touch with my guests since then to make sure they are comfortable and happy with their stay. I am sorry you were disappointed.

Great townhouse

  • 5 of 5

This townhouse is located in one of the nicest resorts in the Keys, Hawks Cay Resort. It was clean, nice, located close to the pool. The sunsets were great. The layout was good for a group/family. Comfortable, attractive. Will definitely book this townhouse again, for future trips! The location, accomodations definitely get a 5-star review. Try to make reservations at Hawks Cay resort--you will find the cost is much greater than what you can rent this unit for. Laura was easy to deal with and refunded our deposit promptly.

Be wary of Captain Lee Lucas though. We booked our fishing trip 6 months in advance and were disappointed when he tried to change our deep sea charter to a bonefishing outing. Many of the charters are reluctant to use the gas needed to get out to the Marathon hump where there is deep sea fishing and where you can catch game fish. The fishing tourist trap is to get booked on a reef or wreck fishing trip where they anchor the boat. You will catch fish however no dolphin, tuna, wahoo or other game fish.
