We are a local family. I was born and raised here. As well as my son. My husband is a working carpenter and I work in Honolulu. My son teaches surf lessons and works in a local popular eatery. We are working and enjoy sharing our home with visitors. You are sharing our beautiful space so ask that you are respectful of that. We are of your privacy as well. Although we like to interact if you are open to it. Sometimes our work schedules don't jive with our guests fun schedule. Please don't mistake this for indifference. We are always concerned for your comfort. It is not a party house, so if that's what you're looking for there are other options out there. We basically are early to bed for the guys and I return late in the evening. Not as early a riser as they are.. We do have a young dog who pretty much is a house dog. He does go out for play. So if this is a problem let us know and we will keep him contained. He is usually in or tied on our deck. Please contact us if this is a fit for you. Aloha,
Cha cha purchased this house in 2007
Great king sized bed, shower was good once warmed up, nice use of space. However was told on arrival not to even walk around the property and that we couldn't use the pool at all. Apparently children under 12 are not allowed in the pool, kind of a funny rule when pool is used as advertisment for place. Needs a bit of renovation to clean up the place and smelt of mildew. Would not stay there again.
We enjoyed our stay here during our last four days in Oahu. It is quiet and comfortable with a nice, big bed. True there is not a full-size oven, but this wasn't a problem. There is a toaster oven, plug-in cooktop, microwave, grill, etc - more than enough for satisfying cooking. We didn't use the pool (it was a bit rainy and chilly while we were visiting) so can't comment on that. Do be aware that you can't walk to anywhere from the house. It is a mile or two up a steep, windy road. You'll be taking your car everywhere.
There is a state monument at one of the intersections on the way to the house. We went over on a whim and, surprise, impressive ruins overlooking the sea (don't miss that). We went to Ted's Bakery every day, also spent time in Haleiwa, Waimea Valley and Ka'ena point. Wish we'd had more time to explore the food truck scene - it puts Oregon's to shame. Also would have been fun to watch some big-wave surfing, but the waves were not cooperating. Overall, a very nice contrast to the crowded resort and city atmosphere that was the first half of our trip. Mahalo!
I like it's on the north shore. It's a very windy road up the mountain side but close to sunset beach and waimea valley which is a great place to stay . Charlette is great and we enjoyed our stay.
Charlotte was very friendly and checked on us in passing when we were leaving or coming back to the condo. The size of her place was good and the neighborhood seemed very safe. We were always on the go so we didn't spend much time in the condo but it worked for us! It's also located near some food trucks and Foodland, beaches and my favorite, Ted's Bakery.
I didn't give it 5 stars because the bathroom shower could use an update as the shower curtain rod was rusted and the shower itself could use a facelift with some regrouting. But other than that, it was great! The road to her place was a little steep and winding but easy to find!
Since we had just finished over a year of building our retirement home,we REALLY needed a relaxing vacation. We were glad to find the Murphy's excellent hosts, answering all our questions and generally making us feel that we were part of their family.
The facilities were as described on the VRBO website. We used the kitchen for several of our meals and found all the needed items for food preparation.
The North Shore of Oahu is VERY laid back, allowing the relaxed atmosphere of the Murphy's home to extend up and down the coast Hiway. We ate at several "budget" locally owned establishments finding friendly staff, comfortable surroundings and the food was great. Shrimp, burgers, bakery items salads...everything! Also, the local farmers market/craft sellers provided good quality and reasonable prices.
Several mornings when we stepped out on the veranda for breakfast, we heard the surf pounding in the distance. That led to many hours of sitting on or near the beach watching serious waves and a few experienced surfers slicing through the foaming water.
Ten days of pure relaxation and Charlotte and her family as hosts equals 5 Stars!!
