Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)+optional 2Br/1bath (sleep 12)

Luxury estate on the sandy beach of Punta Pescadero (point of the fisherman) where the sun shines 350 days per year. Enjoy world-class fishing on the Sea of Cortez where the only waves are generated by the wind. No wind and this is like a lake! No swells, no sea sickness, and no long trips in the boat. One to three hours of fishing with pick up on the beach in front of the house at 8 AM is usually enough to catch your dinner! Want fresh fish or lobster caught that morning without you going fishing, just ask and it will be delivered, and even cooked for you if you wish. Add a two-person guitar background to your dinner by the pool and you will truly feel you are in heaven, the hustle of life has been left behind.

Walk the beach for 'miles' without seeing anyone! No one selling anything, just walk and enjoy undisturbed nature at its best.

The house is finished with travertine floors, marble and granite countertops, marble bathrooms, and slate around the pool with palapa bar. The palapa sitting area on the beach is the place to be with a nice book to read. This is the life!

Griselda will be your maid for your entire stay, washing your dishes and clothes while keeping the property immaculate. Jose Maria is the manager of the property who will also be there every day to look after your needs. Jose Maria speaks fluent English, so no need to worry about language. Just relax and let him worry about your activities.

There are two master bedrooms with queen-sized beds. One has its own private bath and the second shares the full bath with the bunk room where four can sleep. Additional sleeping is possible on the couches or pool lounge chairs.

OPTIONAL rental of the lower floor of the main house with the extra 2 bedrooms and kitchen results in beds for 12 people. Inquire about extra costs and your needs.

**NO ONE will be in the 'main house' when you are in the guesthouse and vice versa. I adjust my trips around when there is a guest.

Bring with you: passport, notorized authorization for any minor children not accompanied by both parents, sunscreen, hats, swimsuits, sunglasses, sandals, light windbreaker (December to March only), get international access for your cell phone before leaving, buy your own liquor and food on your drive from the airport. Order fresh tortillas from the village of Cardonal to be delivered daily (Jose Maria, the house manager and your conscierge, arranges). Do not try to import beef or chicken into mexico. If you wish, you can ask to go to Costco on your way to the property and stock up for a long stay.

Enjoy the property and the beauty of Mexico. You will return 'walking slow, thinking slow, and talking slow' guaranteed!

About The Owner

I am a dentist, orthodontic educator, and I live to fish, my number 1 hobby. I found this location by being a private pilot, Punta Pescadero has the #1 paved airstrip in Baja outside of controlled airports.

The Owner purchased this house in 1994

Why The Owner chose El Cardonal

The best fishing in the world, no one selling you anything, the fantastic attitudes of the locals, and of course the airstrip. I do not have a plane anymore, having crashed it in 2001 (no one hurt).

What makes this house unique

Remote elegance and luxury. Whatever you want, just ask and my house manager will make it happen.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sept 7-14, 2007: Don, We had a great time. It went so fast though! Jose Maria and Griselda were wonderful, as you said. Jose is a gem.The food in at the little town,Cardonal? On the road, was the best we have ever had.

Snorkeling to the left of the house was the best, so many fish! The fishing was good too, they brought home sea bass, we grilled and it was great. Had lobster too, wow.

We found 2 giant conchs!! They were as big as my head!! I think that was my highlight, so so cool!

Once again,Thank you for letting us stay.

AWESOME

  • 5 of 5

This place is a great place to stay. Very, very clean, maintained daily.

Their is a multitude of things to do in a place away from the crowds.

Don, the owner set us up and told us everything we needed, and what to expect. Jose Maria the manager was awesome, and speaks great English. He also picked us up and returned us to the airport! I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for more of a secluded

non touristy, peaceful vacation.

Owner's Response: This is my first year sharing this property with others and it has been a pleasure. We do "take care of you", not just expecting a guest to jump off the plane and find the true beauty of Baja, Mexico. I love this part of Mexico and others are now finding the same. Thank you for the nice words.

A Great House in a Beautiful Beach Location!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and another couple spent five nights at Casa McGann and loved the relative remoteness of the beach location. Our exceptionally clean house had everything we needed. Here's what we really liked:

The pool (You can ask Jose Maria to adjust the heat)

The well-maintained grounds with many places to sit.

The daily laundry and cleaning service (something we don't expect at a vacation rental).

The palapa in front of the main house, where we watched beautiful sunrises every morning.

The uncrowded feel of the neighborhood. (If there were people staying in the other houses nearby, we didn't see them.)

Watching the occasional small airplane land or take off on the nearby runway.

Renting the ATVs from Jose Maria's brother and being guided by Jose's nephew to nearby petroglyphs. (This well worth the money.)

Eating at Jose Maria and his wife's restaurant in Cordanal. Great food at a reasonable price.

Having a great lunch at Hotel Punta Pescadero.

Though we weren't expecting it, the sea was mostly calm during the days we stayed at the guesthouse. We did several day trips during our stay including visits to the waterfall near Santiago and to the historic town of El Triunfo. Both of these are highly recommended.

The wifi was dysfunctional at best when we arrived but Jose Maria called a technician and after that, it worked brilliantly. The last 8 km stretch of road to the neighborhood is rough and and in places narrow and steep. But I'm not complaining. :-)

We would absolutely stay here again and we would certainly recommend this rental to anyone who might ask.

Owner's Response: I am so happy that you got the "feel" of my house, which as you so well described is much more than a house rental. I started this rental 7 years ago for the purpose of showing off how nice mexico can be, dispelling the rumors of unsafe. You found what I found when I invested there. You are welcome back anytime! BTW, as irritating as the dirt road can be (having to go slow), it contributes to the overall "feeling" of not caring about small details for a true mexican vacation. It also keeps out the bandidos since they cannot make a fast getaway...Los Barilles, although nice, is not the same and what you get when you have better roads. That considered, I have learned to "like" the road.

Nice property. Well kept.Quiet.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. 4- 50 year ago high school buds. The house was well equipped and very comfortable. The staff was really good. Clothes laundered and the place clean and tidy when we returned from a day of fishing.it is a beautiful very quiet setting. Internet spotty and phone non existent ..and in our cases welcome.

The fishing was very good. We caught Dorado, tuna ,wahoo, marlin, yellowtail, snapper among others.Fresh fish every night on the BBQ /smoker provided. We all filled our 48 qt coolers after 4 days fishing. The other 2 days was catch and release or give to the crew if not viable to release.

If quiet and soltitude along with soaking in the beauty of this part of Mexico this is better than a doctors prescription.

The 4 of us travel over the world for both business and pleasure. We are a bit rough but discerning. We would highly recommend this place. We are all discussing the next trip and wondering how we can include our significant others kids and grandkids.

The owner Don Mc is very helpful and a fountain of information. He provided tidbits and advice from research to booking to the day before we left.Quick email responses.

Again an A1 experience

My second home...

  • 5 of 5

It is always a pleasure to come visit this place. Everything is always clean, the property is breathtakingly beautiful and Jose Maria is more than anybody could ask for. My only hesitation on writing a review here is that more people will find this hidden jem...see you again soon.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Although our trip was cut short due to family emergency the 3 days we were there were great. Rent ATV's from Sergio! It was so easy to get around on those. Take the road along the shore to town. When we return it will be a different time of the year. December-February is crazy windy! 3 ft waves couldn't fish or swim. But house & Jose Maria & Griselda were amazing. All locals were very welcoming!
