We stayed at the house during the Christmas Holiday to visit family; rather than staying in one of the local hotels again. It was quiet and clean; our host's instructions were clear and concise. Having stayed in other homes and hotels in the area; ;definitely will keep this on our list for future visits.
Beautiful Home and Lovely Lake
We truly enjoyed our stay. Our goal was to relax and enjoy quality time with one another, and we did just that. This house on the lake is beautifully decorated, and so comfortable with roomy chairs and couches in the living room, with access to an large outside deck and views of the lake. And there's quiet, sunlit reading areas, and a loft retreat with a beautiful view of the backwoods.
We really used the well-stocked, pretty kitchen, and cooked wonderful meals -there was any cooking tool or utensil for the most seasoned cooks. We went to a local diner just once- it was great, but we loved the house so much that we found ourselves preferring to stay in because the surrounding were so pleasant.
We walked the lake, took out the bicycles, there's a game room downstairs, kayaks- there was even a closet with anything we might need for our dog. He also loved it, and we would all recommend this delightful house on the lake. We left relaxed and very, very happy with this getaway. The owners were wonderful to work with and we hope to come back!
Reviews are very important and special to us as owners. We value every one. We hope everyone leaves one. Once in a while a review really stands out and as it encapsulates what we hope every guest experiences. We truly appreciate this review. It even has some great kitchen comments!
The best house in Smallwood
Over the last several years, my friends and I have stayed in Smallwood and the surrounding area for an annual summer reunion. I can therefore say, without a doubt, that Kevin owns the nicest home in all of Smallwood. This palatial house in this serene hamlet of the Catskills boasts several spacious bedrooms, complete with luxuriously comfortable beds, a full kitchen equipped for preparing a bountiful feast, and entertainment to amuse people of all ages for days on end.
Everything was as described, and Kevin made sure to attend to every single request and tend to every question we had. There was ample information provided on the town and the surrounding area which enabled us to have an excellent weekend.
We had an excellent time at Kevin’s home and I will look no further when I seek a place for us to stay next summer.
This truly sums up the experience we want all our guests to have. We are fortunate to have guests that respect the property and return year after year. We love all our returnees and our 'last minute stay gang'.
Lovely time at the lake
We had a lovely time at White Lake. The house is wonderful, comfortable, and has all the amenities you could possibly need for vacation. We made use of the kayaks and fishing gear, grilled, and made fires every night. There's a bunch of stuff to do in the area too but we decided to be lazy and hang around the house only. Overall one of the best and most relaxing vacations we've had in a while. Would absolutely recommend to others. We can't wait to return!
Liana, thanks for summing up the typical guest experience at our home. We find as we read these reviews our typical guests of families and friends love the relaxation they feel while enjoying the peacefulness and prettiness of the lake setting. They also enjoy the games and activities available at the house. We are happy when are guests are happy!
Serenity!! Just a tranquil and beautiful house ! Kevin was an amazing host !!
My family and I were at Kevin's house for two night and three days. We enjoyed every bit of it. We had a bin fire , BBQ and walks around the lake. We had plans to do things in the area , but when we got to the house we didn't want to leave. The house was just so warm , comfortable and also relaxing. My kids had a great time enjoying the lake , my wife enjoyed the peace and quite. Ty Kevin !!
So glad to hear your family's happy experience. As you comment, it is the experience of many that when they get to the house they do not want to leave. So, we often suggest that guests bring all the necessities from home with them picking up last minute perishables and such on the way into the neighborhood. This way there is no pressure to leave for any reason. We even have a backup propane tankl for the BBQ.
For Friday afternoon/evening travel we suggest bringing a casserole/baked ziti so when you get to the house you can just plop it in the oven and relax. You will pass a great pizzeria as you get off 17 to 17B as another option.
Great location. Love the morning view. Clean and lots of stuff to do even if it rains.
Great retreat. Being able to fish at anytime is awesome. The owner aloud us to use the kayaks and my friends have never used them before. They had a blast. Catch and release lake, but I still pulled in 3 great pike, and 2 very nice bass. One night it rained so we used the outside screened in porch for poker. Didn't get wet, and no bugs. I would rent it again and again.
Reginald - thanks for a great informative review. Your review helps others learn how to make the most of their stay!
The house layout and setup nicely supports family, friends, and other groups. There is a large communal eating and hangout space on the main floor and a large, separate rec room downstairs. With bedrooms spread out over three floors and baths on two of those there is plenty of privacy when desired.
The lake is stocked with five different species of fish by our civic association. In addition to our annual association fees, Laura and I contribute to the Fish Fund. Many of our guests will take one of our kayaks and fishing poles out and have at it. A few weeks after your stay a family caught a few fish right off our dock. They sent us a picture of their happy son with a smile from ear to ear!
The Town of Bethel was brought to the world's attention in 1969 when nearly 500,000 people gathered at Max Yasgur's Farm for 'Three Days of Peace and Music'. The Woodstock festival was held here in Bethel, 5 miles from our lake house, not in the Town of Woodstock. In 2006, Bethel Woods opened on the original Woodstock site as a state-of-the-art performing arts venue. In early 2008, a multi-media Woodstock 'interpretive' museum opened near the old Yasgur's Farm to complement the concert space, which has hosted the New York Philharmonic, Wynton Marsalis, Diane Reeves, Chris Botti, the Goo Goo Dolls, the Boston Pops Orchestra, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Lynyrd Skynyrd/Marshall Tucker Band, Bob Dylan, Richie Havens/Arlo Guthrie, Earth, Wind & Fire, the Boston Pops Orchestra, Steely Dan, the Allman Brothers, the Jonas Brothers, Heart, Journey, Cheap Trick and Brad Paisley to name a few. The continue to add top artists each summer / fall seasons. Lawn chair rentals make it affordable for all. If you can not make the concerts it is still a great place to visit and tour the Woodstock Museum. This museum is quite the unexpected treat. Original artifacts, music, history, movie clips and much more. Group tours given on Saturdays. Easy 1 to 2 hour tour. See the actual festival site, hills and ponds.
