Traverse City Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Log Cabin for One Couple with Hot Tub - Bath w/shower

Harold's Resort is located off the highway, in the woods, on the lake - a private peninsula - surrounded by water on 3 sides w/7 '1950's' LOG 'housekeeping' Cabins. Extra quiet, private & secluded. Safe for Families, Quiet for Couples. Great for fishing and swimming. Spider Lake is an all sports lake with 459 acres. No wake before 11 am & after 7:30 pm each day ensures the lake is extra quiet in the morning and evening

. Great pontoon boating lake with lots of exploring to do. When you are here, you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but there is easy access to town.. Traverse City that is. Also nearby in the Pere Marquette State Forest you will find: Hiking Trails, Snow Shoeing and X-C Trails, & Mountain Biking Trails. Ranch Rudolf is a short drive away for Horse Back Riding, Canoeing & Tubing on the Boardman River. We do Nightly & Weekend Rentals Sept - June. Weekly Rentals Sat to Sat in the Summer. Let me know what you are looking for... Kathy

Summer Weekly Rental: Bring the family up for some quality time. Bring them to a place that time forgot. Remember going up north to the lake as a child? Well bring your children to the same place. Bring them to a place for some good ole fashion R & R. Bring your favorite board games, books, deck of cards, beach toys and fishing poles. I bet they don't ask for a TV all week... a miracle... After fishing, and swimming and chasing each other around, after dinner and a bonfire with roasted marshmallows and s,mores... they'll hit the hay and never even notice NO TV . Rainy day -- that''s when the games come out... or a trip to town to the Children's Museum - waves of wonder, or just a wet day outside... even if it wasn't raining, they'd be wet ... right ? !!! Rainy days are when the fish bite best... so hopefully you'll get at least one while you are here.

No pets allowed on the property, not even to visit, please and thank you.

Fall Weekends: Come up to the North Woods for a Color Tour Weekend - everywhere you go up here is a 'Color Tour' - cruise the lake on a pontoon boat ( rentals available here ) visit a winery, casino, or fabulous restaurant - we have plenty in the area. Hiking and Mountain Bike Trails nearby for a real color tour thru the Pere Marquette State Forest. This cabin will accommodate one couple, and we have 7 cabins here - and we have other accommodations on Spider Lake for larger groups too.

Girls Weekend Retreats: Did you know that 'Girls just wanna have fun! ' Well gather up your friends, sisters, mothers and neighbors! and choose either a Scrapbook Weekend Retreat - ask me for info! This is where you get to have all the fun, work on a project or take a class and learn something new with all the girls! No cooking, No cleaning, No husbands or kids (bless their hearts!) The work room is open from Friday 12 N til Sunday 3pm - come and go as you please.... Six fabulous meals provided! With Dessert, Treats, Snacks & Beverages. Eight weekends per year to choose from - contact me and I'll set you up!

About Kathy Schliess

We came to Harolds Resort on vacation from San Diego in the Fall of 1989. We fell in Love with Traverse City and Harolds Resort. We moved here in the Spring of 1990, with our son Dieter who was almost 2 years old and 8 1/2 years later our son Hunter was born.

UPDATE:

It is with a broken heart that I tell you of the passing of my husband Rolf on Friday, January 29, 2016. He passed unexpectedly and peacefully. He loved Harolds Resort as much as I do, and I will continue to run the Resort with extra help from my boys, and local contractors. His spirit is alive and well everywhere I go. In and around the Cabins and Resort property, I see his handy work, his blood, sweat and tears. Our goal was to always have a place where families and couples could come and spend quality time together, doing the simple things, and that goal has never been stronger or more important. If you knew Rolf, don’t be sad, be happy for what he did have and what he left behind, because he left it to me, to share with you... Kathy

Kathy Schliess purchased this cabin in 1990

Why Kathy Schliess chose Traverse City

While we were here on vacation in 1989 we were telling the owner how much we loved Traverse City and Harolds Resort and he said - if you love it so much, why don't you buy it ? !! Just seemed like a good fit and an adventure and a great place to raise a family. And we were right.. and now we are GRAND PARENTS of twin boys ! Boy how time flies when you are having fun !

What makes this cabin unique

Location, Location, Location... at the end of the road, off the highway, in the woods and on the lake. Surrounded by water on 3 sides. There is just not many places left that can give you the peace, quiet and solitude with easy access to all that downtown Traverse City and the surrounding area have to offer.

We have TWO of these "Hot Tub Cabins" each has it's own personal hot tub on the screened in porch. Outside - yet semi private. Eddie Murphy was right when he said: "it's HOT in the Hot Tub" !!

Guestbook comments from the owner

An entry from the journal used with permission - We had so much fun on our weekend getaway here ! What a relaxing little nook in the woods you have ! We explored the shops downtown and had crab cake sandwiches ( which rocked the house ! ) at the Peninsula Grill on the Old Mission Peninsula. You were right, the drive was totally worth it ! On our way out of town we are stopping at the Grand Traverse Pie Company (hope they got the cherry crumb pie). We had so much fun, thanks for everything. Your directions everywhere were very helpful. PS I love how "optional" bath suits were not only allowed but recommended :) * We'll be back * M & B

Cozy Get-Away!

  • 5 of 5

This cozy cabin was exactly what we expected after seeing pictures. It was very clean and had a touch of comfort! The towels and flannel sheets smelled so good, an added bonus compared to a hotel's towels and sheets! The fireplace heated the cabin and added to the coziness. We were aprehensive about the hottub since it was under 10 degrees outside. But once we got in, it felt wonderful. To breathe in the cool crisp air while relaxing in a bubbling warm water, it actually warmed us up! The Christmas lights were nice and the view was great! My husband & I really needed this get away to spend some time alone without the interuptions of every day life. We went into Traverse City and ate at Olive Garden which is awlays awesome & we also made a trip to the Turtle Creek Casino. It was a nice casino and I liked that it was not too busy. We played the slots and had many to choose from. We shopped the outlets and mall for a little bit and then we couldn't wait to get back to our cabin! The cabin was close to town yet we were in the country and away form the busy city life! My husband & I enjoyed our stay and can not wait to come back. We may make this a yearly winter break! Many times since we have been home we have referred to the cabin wishing we were there again. Very comfortable, cozy, romantic & relaxing retreat. Thank You!!!

Owner's Response: We know some people have to have a "hotel room" - but what a bonus for those who don't !! Having your own little log cabin to "call you home ' is something you willl never know when you stay at a hotel. Having your own private hot tub on your screened in porch, even with single digit temps - is something you can never experience at a "hotel". And as I always say.. the colder and nastier the weather.. the better the hot tub feels ! " Don't wait for the storm to pass, learn to dance in the rain ! " Kathy

THE BEST WEEKEND EVER

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 3 nights in Cabin 4 over Valentine's Day weekend at Harold's Resort. I can't say enough about what a fantastic time we had--even though the temp dropped down to 1 degree. Other than going out to the Beerfest Saturday, we stayed in. Kathy has the cabin decorated just darling, and she thought of everything a person would need while staying there. We had a perfect view of the fireplace from the bed, and we also spent a lot of time in the hot tub, which never failed to warm us up!! The whole little cabin was immaculate!! We've been together 40 years and I have to say....most romantic weekend ever!! We will definitely be back, summer and winter!! Perfect getaway for a couple or family!!

Owner's Response: These two braved the Cold and Snow for L O V E ! And look what it got them - The Most Romantic Weekend EVER ! Most "city slickers" would have run home with the cold temps we had that weekend. So thanks for sticking around and figuring out how to keep each other warm ! Fireplace, Hot Tub, Snuggle REPEAT ! Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying at Kathy's fabulous resort! Nothing says "romance" and "relaxation" like a fireplace and hot tub!! The lodgings here are relaxed and cozy. I suggest a short walk out to the lake in the winter- the views are absolutely beautiful :) I highly recommend Harold's Resort to anyone that loves the outdoors and enjoys living a little rustic but still wants a comfortable bed and a clean place to stay. Thanks again Kathy, see you next winter!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking such nice care of the Cabin and loving it as much as we do. You are why we keep a few Cabins open in the winter. Kathy

Perfect Fall Time Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We spent our anniversary weekend here, and fell in love with this place! Very quiet, cute, and quaint little cabin overlooking the trees and lake. The electric fireplace heated everything perfectly, and created a cozy atmosphe as well. We also enjoyed the hot tub during the 30 degree temps! So happy we decided to give this place a try, and we'll definitely go back as soon as possible!

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I'm so happy we found this hidden gem! We stayed in October and it was chilly enough outside to really enjoy the hot tub. The cabin was cute, toasty with the fireplace and clean. Highly recommend. It was a great retreat for a couple but it would also be perfect for the family as well!

Thanks so much for a great weekend!

This Log Cabin at Harolds Resort is located on a 2 acre private peninsula surrounded by Spider Lake on 3 sides. A 459 acre 'all sports lake', Spider Lake can be found within the Pere Marquette State Forest. Located in Grand Traverse County along w/ many other inland lakes, we are also close to East & West GT Bay. The Boardman River snakes thru the county providing fly fishing, canoeing and tubing opportunities & then empties into West Grand Traverse Bay near downtown Traverse City. All kinds of water, lake and river water activities can be done in an endless water wonderland - Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. Being the Tart Cherry Capitol of the World means not only cherries for our area, but also all kinds of berries, apples, peaches, sweet corn and all can be found at roadside stands & our downtown Farmers Market approx July - October. With so many things to do, you might forget to do one of my favorite things.. Nothing! Ask about other vacation rentals we manage on 'Spider'

Other Activities: snow shoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating

Golf: Love to Golf a different place everyday? Would you rather stay 'off the beaten path' ? How about a Cabin in the Woods? A Vacation Home on the lake? Would you like to do a little boating or fishing in between rounds? Forget the Hotel on the Miracle Mile! Come stay - in the woods, off the highway and on the lake! You will only feel like you are in the middle of nowhere! There is easy access to town and all the Golf Courses you could possibly want... and they are all a scenic drive away!

Ski: Cross Country Skiing at it's best -- with all the natural snow Grand Traverse County gets, All the State Groomed Trails to use for free ! - just grab your skis or snowshoes and come up to the woods-- get a pot of Chili cooking before you start out and it will be waiting when you get back - and so will your Fireplace, your Hot Tub and your Flannel Sheets and Down Comforter -- forget the 'Miracle Mile' of hotels, motels and restaurants.. stay out here, in the woods and close to nature. Yes, we have downhill slopes nearby if that's your kind of skiing ! There is something for everyone.
