Enjoy this beautiful mountain home located in a quiet, wooded neighborhood two miles east of Julian's historic township. Our architecturally-designed vacation home sits high in a family of oaks just steps away from panoramic desert views. Experience a sense of living in the trees while you relax to the sounds of gentle mountain breezes!
The home's knotty-pine interior includes a dramatic vaulted ceiling and attractive lighting that reflect the ambience of Julian's art community. Artwork lines a stairway that leads to a guest sleeping loft. Our home is pleasingly furnished with many new, comfortable pieces that include a queen-size bed, a double-size bed, and two full-size sleeping futons in the livingroom. We provide the firewood for the wood-burning stove. The home has central heating, central air conditioning, ceiling fans, and many windows for natural air circulation. There is plenty of private parking on this spacious property.
High speed DSL Internet sevice is now available for your personal computer.

Well-mannered pet dogs are welcome with the owner's prior approval. Our property now has a large, fenced (six feet high) area in back of the house where guests can exercise their dogs in an enclosed environment. Dogs may also stay inside the house with their owners. Dogs should be current on their immunizations.
You can use the front deck for outside dining and bird-watching. You may also be visited by our local wildlife families of turkeys, deer, raccoons, bobcats, and foxes. Bring your cameras!
Located at an elevation of 4,450 feet above sea level, the historic gold mining town of Julian is located one hour east of coastal San Diego. San Diegans and out-of-town visitors enjoy its unique proximity to state, national and county parks with plentiful hiking and riding trails. The picturesque Anza Borrego Desert is situated just to the east of us. Beautiful Lake Cuyamaca, available for fishing enthusiasts, lies twenty minutes south. You can use your Julian location to take day trips to these nearby attractions throughout the year.
Situated within areas of apple orchards, Julian is well-known for its delicious apple pies, wine-tasting, sense of history, romantic surroundings, and old goldmine. The township has maintained its historic buildings, that now house good restaurants, boutiques, and old-time melodrama entertainment.
I am a San Diego County native who has recently retired from a career as a community college counselor. I have also enjoyed careers in secondary school teaching and social work with the County of San Diego. My family and I enjoy staying at this beautiful vacation home, where we celebrate special family occasions and holidays. We love the beautiful Julian area, and the unique historic quality of Julian's old gold-mining town.
Nada Grigsby purchased this house in 2005
I fell in love with this property when it was on the market early in the 2000s. I had accompanied a close friend who was looking to purchase this home for retirement. The wooded neighborhood, proximity to town, and beautiful house interior left a great impression on me! When the home became available for purchase in 2005, I bought the house and the vacant, adjacent 1/3 acre in back of the house.
The Lovely Julian Mountain Retreat has a unique, beautiful interior. The tongue-in grove pine paneling, vaulted living room ceiling, and open beam kitchen ceiling give this home a one-of-a- kind elegance. Although we have neighbors, the home is quite private. The home is situated on a hillside, and looks out into the surrounding trees. My rental guests and my visiting relatives enjoy watching wildlife from the front deck of the house. We love to watch the many migrating birds, turkeys, and deer.
As an owner, I have continued to upgrade this home's quality and comfort. I had a circular drive added several years ago, and added a new parking area. The home was recently painted, and has had a new furnace installed. Our central air conditioning is a great asset on warmer days.
"We had a great time during our stay in Julian. The town is wonderful, and we really enjoyed your cabin (I love knotty pine!!!). Thank you so much for letting us stay here! We will definitely come back here next time we stay in the area."
My family and I had a great time at this very nice house.
Its nice and close to town. We will stay there again.
i booked this trip back in September for a birthday get away in December with my boyfriend and my fur kids. I don't like to travel much because I have a hard time leaving my dogs with someone, and I really appreciated the fact that nada allowed my dogs to stay in her home. Just a little over a week before our stay, a pipe burst in our kitchen and flooded our home. this trip was especially needed to get out of the house while repairs were being made. Nada was so understanding she let us extend our stay!
We stayed at the tail end of fall and it's really starting to get cold in Julian. The house does hold the heat in pretty well. We lit fires, and kept a tea kettle on top of the burning stove to keep it warm. we really didn't need the central heat on because of the fact that it stays pretty cozy inside.
We walked our dogs several times a day and got to know some of the friendly neighbors in the neighborhood. Also, the house isn't far from town at all; we got to explore the Main Street and ate at some of the restaurants during our stay. However; the house has almost everything you need to cook if you wanted to make something at home.
Nada provides toiletries and fresh towels. The house is fully stocked with blankets sheets and pillows. I brought my own detergent and softener but nada also provides that for your laundry.
I'm looking forward to staying again! Nada is such a sweet lady and her home is so beautiful. I had the pleasure of personally meeting her on my stay there. She wanted to make sure we were fully stocked and that the drive way was secure and safe after a huge windstorm knocked a tree out of her driveway.
If I had one thing I would change...and really this is so minimal, on my next trip, my boyfriend and I discussed bringing a tv. Although we explored a lot, we still love our movie watching. The tv at the house is a little small. A big plus to it though is that there is wifi!! So if you have a smart device it does hook up to the tv she provides. My Apple TV worked perfectly. We had Netflix, Hulu and we streamed movies from my iPad.
We had a great time there I hope to make it back in february! This place really did feel like home.
Thank you nada for such a beautiful experience, we can't wait to come back!
My husband and I had a blast! We loved the house and the neighborhood was quiet and relaxing. Great loft! The beautiful view of the desert was just a short walk to the end of the street. Nada was a great host and allowed us our privacy as well. There are plenty of towels, blankets and the kitchen was fully stocked. The pots and pans could use some updating and would have enjoyed a larger TV but all in all a fantastic getaway. Terri & Wally
This retreat is just that...the perfect getaway down a quiet, tree-lined street right outside the quaint town of Julian with great food and trails nearby. The cabin is VERY clean - better than any we've stayed in by far - and the accomodations are excellent. It's great to have the choice between central air/heat and the fireplace. Nada Cathleen is gracious host, very responsive and considerate. We plan to return soon!
We were a group of 6 adults and we fit comfortably into the home. It is just a few minutes from town, but far enough away to get a taste of the outdoors. Nada, the owner, was very helpful answering questions before and during our stay. We would recommend this location to anyone and plan to return ourselves.
We spent a weekend in the lovely Julian mountain retreat and found the house very cozy and enjoyable. It was an easy drive or walk to Julian and nearby hiking and activities. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is because of the woodpeckers that woke us up every morning, pecking on the side of the house.
Wine-tasting; Gold-Mine tours; Carriage Rides; Live Old West Dramas; Cuyamaca Lake Fishing and Paddle Boats; Unique proximity to forest and desert park lands and wilderness preserves provides many hiking trails and areas for exploration. Wildlife viewing. Visit our Julian Wolf Preserve!
