Our custom-built home is perched on a bluff at the northern end of Manchester State Beach. Conde Nast named Manchester as one of the ten best beaches in California. The six-mile beach offers fascinating tide pools and the finest surf fishing on the north coast. A massive jumble of driftwood logs line the base of the cliffs creating a natural playground for kids.
Our home offers dramatic white water views and the ideal spot for eavesdropping on the coastal wildlife. Ospreys and red-tailed hawks soar by at eye level as they ride the wind currents at the bluff's edge. Whales veer extremely close to shore here during migration and, in the early winter, tundra swans stop off for a breather while heading south. Deer are plentiful and visit our property to graze every evening.
Further Details: The house has open-beamed pine ceilings throughout, and an ocean view from all but one room. A large deck and hot tub overlook the crashing surf. The master bedroom has a queen-size pine canopy bed with memory foam mattress and down comforter, a window seat overlooking the surf and a custom-tiled bathroom with a country French 12-inch shower-head.
The second bedroom has a king size bed decorated with a patchwork quilt. The spacious pine kitchen is modern and fully-equipped. The separate living room boasts spectacular views, a long window seat and cozy fireplace. We also provide a small library of books and games.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to stay in your beautiful home - clean, well-stocked with everything we needed, and most importantly a jaw-dropping ocean view. We loved the various places to sit and take in the view. What a perfect homey get-away. Thank you!
As stated by other renters, the pictures do not do the house justice! It is larger than it looks, plus comfortable, cozy and well furnished. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. They even have many supplies furnished such as spices, coffee, coffee filters, sugar, paper towels and toilet paper. My husband especially liked the Webber Grill. He grilled some fine steaks and tuna while we were there!! The hot tub was great for enjoying the view on a chilly day or for star gazing at night. It was amazing how many stars you could see! While we were there we visited the Avenue of the Giants and did some hiking in the redwoods. If you have never seen these massive trees, it is very impressive! It was quite a drive from Manchester, but a great day trip and well worth it! Not only did we enjoy the redwoods but the coastal views from hwy 1. If you want to see redwoods but don't want to drive that far, you can drive north on hwy 1 from Manchester through Elk. At the junction of hwy 1 and 128 take a right (east) on 128. You will drive through about 11 miles of large redwoods. There are also a few impressive redwoods in the Russian Gulch State Park in Mendocino. We also visited some of the vineyards in Anderson Valley and Sanoma. Toulouse was our favorite!
My only wish is that we could have stayed longer. We would definitely reccomend this house to friends. The owners were very helpful and informative. Thank you Margaret for a wonderful stay!
The owners of this property were efficient and well prepared. Email contact with receipts, directions, and suggestions for things to do were sent when needed. The property was easy to find and enter with provided directions. The house is beautiful with seascape views - especially from the well appointed window seats. It is clean and well maintained. The beds are very comfortable. Everything we needed was there with the exception of WIFI. A connection to the internet was not available for most of our stay. There are a couple of items to note. One is the price increase for the Elk Cove dinner suggestion which is important because they request cash payment. The other item is that the Cup & Saucer Bakery does not have seating - it is take out only. I would recommend this home to friends and family. In fact, I hope to visit again in the near future.
We were so pleased with the Truter House, I can't recommend it enough. As indicated by other reviewers the photos on the listing do not do it justice. The view is spectacular and the house itself is very pretty and well maintained. It was superby equipped for a rental-- from a variety of kitchen spices to spare jackets and a telescope! We really enjoyed the hot tub at night....with stars above and ocean below couldn't be better. Located four miles from the nearest grocery store and nine miles from the nearest restaurant, the house may be a little out of the way for some folks but perfect for us.
Stayed the 4th of July week at the Truter house. What a relaxing retreat!! The pictures in the listing do not do this place justice. The house is very well kept and super clean. There is a short (steep) walk down to the beach, or you can drive. The beach is very private and super relaxing to walk on. It is probably the cleanest beach to walk on this end of the north coast, nice sand unlike most of the rocky north coast beaches. Also since it is not a public beach there was never a crowd. We have stayed at many homes up and down the coastline and the Truter house is definitely at the top of the list!! I imagine we will be back.
This is a fabulous home with everything you need to have a superb vacation. Well equipped kitchen so no need to stock up with basics like coffee and filters. Hot Tub and fireplace only add extra charm to the incredible views. Short walk to private beach, incredible hiking and parks nearby. We loved the window benches which we enjoyed every morning while we sipped our coffee and watched the amazing Pacific Ocean.
Very quite street and lots of privacy except for the deer we enjoyed every evening and morning.
We will definitely return only problem it wont be soon enough.
