Our custom-built home is perched on a bluff at the northern end of Manchester State Beach. Conde Nast named Manchester as one of the ten best beaches in California. The six-mile beach offers fascinating tide pools and the finest surf fishing on the north coast. A massive jumble of driftwood logs line the base of the cliffs creating a natural playground for kids.
Our home offers dramatic white water views and the ideal spot for eavesdropping on the coastal wildlife. Ospreys and red-tailed hawks soar by at eye level as they ride the wind currents at the bluff's edge. Whales veer extremely close to shore here during migration and, in the early winter, tundra swans stop off for a breather while heading south. Deer are plentiful and visit our property to graze every evening.
Further Details: The house has open-beamed pine ceilings throughout, and an ocean view from all but one room. A large deck and hot tub overlook the crashing surf. The master bedroom has a queen-size pine canopy bed with memory foam mattress and down comforter, a window seat overlooking the surf and a custom-tiled bathroom with a country French 12-inch shower-head.
The second bedroom has a king size bed decorated with a patchwork quilt. The spacious pine kitchen is modern and fully-equipped. The separate living room boasts spectacular views, a long window seat and cozy fireplace. We also provide a small library of books and games.
We were so pleased with the Truter House, I can't recommend it enough. As indicated by other reviewers the photos on the listing do not do it justice. The view is spectacular and the house itself is very pretty and well maintained. It was superby equipped for a rental-- from a variety of kitchen spices to spare jackets and a telescope! We really enjoyed the hot tub at night....with stars above and ocean below couldn't be better. Located four miles from the nearest grocery store and nine miles from the nearest restaurant, the house may be a little out of the way for some folks but perfect for us.
Stayed the 4th of July week at the Truter house. What a relaxing retreat!! The pictures in the listing do not do this place justice. The house is very well kept and super clean. There is a short (steep) walk down to the beach, or you can drive. The beach is very private and super relaxing to walk on. It is probably the cleanest beach to walk on this end of the north coast, nice sand unlike most of the rocky north coast beaches. Also since it is not a public beach there was never a crowd. We have stayed at many homes up and down the coastline and the Truter house is definitely at the top of the list!! I imagine we will be back.
This is a fabulous home with everything you need to have a superb vacation. Well equipped kitchen so no need to stock up with basics like coffee and filters. Hot Tub and fireplace only add extra charm to the incredible views. Short walk to private beach, incredible hiking and parks nearby. We loved the window benches which we enjoyed every morning while we sipped our coffee and watched the amazing Pacific Ocean.
Very quite street and lots of privacy except for the deer we enjoyed every evening and morning.
We will definitely return only problem it wont be soon enough.
My husband and I have been coming to the Mendocino area on our anniversary for the last twelve years. Each time we've rented a home and I can honestly say that this is by far our favorite home. Lots of cozy reading nooks, incredible views for whale watching, and a hot tub. Truly perfect.
We had a very good and relaxing time at Irish Beach. The location is amazing and the house well kept. We loved the full ocean view and the sound of the waves. We even saw some whales and seals close to the beach. The weather got windy and rainy one day. But it was mostly fine. The house is also not very far from Anderson Valley vineyards where we enjoyed some good wine. Margaret was very prompt in replying to all my emails and questions. Thank you for sharing your house with us. Hope to be back some day.
What a wonderful vacation home. The pictures do not do this place justice. The rental is located off of Highway 1 and is away from it all. We arrived late at night in the fog and I would highly recommend against doing that. The visibility was awful and dangerous on the narrow curvy road. Obviously, this is not the owners fault. This was us using poor judgement and wanted others to be aware that an arrival before dark would be ideal.
The rental is well equipped and would be great for two couples. The kitchen was stocked well beyond typical rentals. You can tell this was furnished as a vacation home for their family. Has a warm and welcoming feel to it. Having two living areas is a great bonus. It was just my husband and I. I personally would not recommend this place for children. Not really anywhere for children to play. The hot tub was amazing and the view from it was breathtaking. It had wood inside for the fireplace. We do not use this feature because I am allergic to wood smoke but would be a nice touch for others.
If I can think of a negative, it would be the flies. We did not keep the doors open, so we are not sure how they got in. I wish we have had a fly swatted. But honestly, that is the only negative and I would not hesitate to stay again. The location is a bit remote. If you are looking for a place to cook your meals and get away from it all, then this is the place. If you like going out to all of your meals, this likely would not be a good fit. Mainly because it was so foggy when we were there and the road is so curvy to get to any restaurants.
The owner was fantastic. She responded promptly and answered all of my questions. She also returned my security deposit quickly. Overall, a wonderful place!
