Why Frank Caruso chose Shenandoah Valley

It' s on a level lot. Just pull on car into the driveway, No steep or curving driveway going up or down toward the home.

What makes this lodge unique

No steps unless you have to go upstairs to the bunkbeds. Everything is one one level.

Not worth the money...

  • 1 of 5

I do not like to write bad reviews, but I had such a bad experience in this place that I decided to share it with you. Rented this cabin for 4 days and 3 nights. First impression was great due to its location and the place does look neat, but when the we were about to go to sleep, found out that the sheets on the beds were dirty with dry blood spots, smelly, full of human hair and seemed like they haven't been changed since the previous tenants. Called the property manager asking him why they are dirty, to which he replied that he is out of town for the weekend and cannot do anything about it, but there should be some spare sheets in the closed. Found the sheets but they smelled worse the first ones. Ended up sleeping on the couch in our clothes and the next day had to go and buy brand new sheets as nobody was interested in doing anything about it. In addition had to buy detergent for the dishes as they had food stain on them and the place was out of dishwasher detergent. Called the owner and he said that the manager spoke with us and we did not want him to come and change anything, which obviously was a lie. We ended up having a great time in Massanutten as we went to the water park and community pool but dreaded the thought of going back to the cabin in the evening. We were shocked at the fact that nobody took ownership of the situation, it is just an example of bad customer service. At the end of the stay I asked the owner to get a refund for at least the sheets that we had to buy, which he "kindly" rejected.

Bottom line, the place is not worth the money, and even if it was cheaper, I would not want my children to sleep in those conditions!

Great family get away

  • 5 of 5

Better than anticipated! Great family cabin. Huge common area. 2 bedroom and a grand loft for up to six kids in 2 separate bunk areas. Kitchen well outfitted. TV w/Direct TV satellite. This is separate from resort property, but for a fee many are still available. Waterpark, horseback rides, summer and winter tubing, zip-lines, canopy tours, go cars, and mini-golf to name a few. There is an owners community pool, but this time of year the hours are cut back to 11 to 2:30 (seriously???) and its $5 person. Pay attention to waterpark hours as they shorten the time by 4 hours this late in the season but still charge full price. Would have just booked a week earlier. However, no fault to Frank (a very nice owner) or his property manager (Lee). Great property. Small dog friendly, and few steps on a level property for those senior knees. Local deer play in the beck yard! Book this property for a family event.

Charming/rustic log home was great for our family!

  • 5 of 5

Our huge family was trying to find a rental property in or near Massanutten at the last minute which would allow dogs. Thankfully, we found this charming log home which was in a great location for us. The owners (Frank and Claudia) were very accommodating for our family and were very responsive which was great since we were, unfortunately, booking the property the week before our vacation. Also, the property manager (Lee) was fantastic. The door lock for the shared bathroom was broken and Lee replaced it for us the day after we had reported it to him. It was definitely a neat vacation home with the loft which the kids loved. Our family would certainly return to this home on future trips to Massanutten!

Great house for a family get away!

  • 5 of 5

We were in a two week transition to a new home in Northern Virginia. My family of six and three dogs had so much space to relax with beds for everyone. The home is located in the Massanutten Resort complex which had a lot to do for the entire family including nature trails, mini golf and a water park. Frank Caruso was a delight to work with and was very accommodating when we needed to extend our trip a few days. The house is located a short distance to Harrisonburg VA with loads of dining and shopping options. The mountain scenery is very beautiful. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation or quick weekend get away, this home is your ideal destination! We can't wait to go back this ski season!

Great family home!

  • 5 of 5

Mr. Caruso was great to work with, we had to change weekends because of the blizzard. His home is perfect for a family with an open gathering area and ample kitchen. The home has a perfect mountain feel with the cabin experience and backs to the woods. We will definitely visit this home again when coming to massanutten.
