Beautiful luxury villa, high spec, in quiet relaxed setting. Suitable for families and close to a range of local amenities in the ancient Roman settlement of Tar. As one of the larger more spacious villas in this private complex this idyllic retreat sleeps 6. The villa is air conditioned, boasting 2 bathrooms (one with Jacuzzi) and also a laundry room. There is ample dinning area in the modern open planned ground floor. Outside there is a garden to relax in where you can also dine al fresco as you enjoy this idyllic peaceful setting.
The villa boasts a good sized shared pool and floodlit tennis court. Walking, running, snorkelling, cycling, golfing, sight-seeing are amongst the many active pursuits available on your doorstep. Families will love Istria's new landmark waterpark which is a short 15 minute drive in the direction of Novigrad. If eating out is what your looking for there is a range of gastronomic delights to be had in several quality restaurants locally in the village and also in the surrounding beautiful coastal and hilltop medieval towns which are a feature of this area of outstanding beauty and history.
This is me, Helen. Istria has been a passion of mine since I discovered this hidden gem when travelling in Europe many years ago. Our family have returned here every year since and have found this little paradise on the edge of the village of Tar. We immediate fell in love with it and just had to buy this villa where we have spent fantastic long summers. It has been a family home for us where we have made some great friends and had some great times. We hope you too will enjoy the experience.
Mervyn and Helen purchased this villa in 2008
We liked this area due to its rural yet coastal location. The villa is situated in a small complex where it is easy to relax yet allows us easy access to do an array of sporting activities. We love the local restaurants in the village and the relaxed atmosphere and laid back way of life. On balmy evenings we love to stroll along the narrow Roman streets in Porec or sit in their wonderful restaurants or peruse their quaint shops . Or if we want to hear some music we drive to Groznan to hear classical or jazz music up on the hill top with a glass of wine in hand. If we stay at home being music lovers we enjoy evenings by the pool playing guitar or opening the doors onto the garden with sounds of the piano playing which we have recently added as a feature to this wonderful summer home.
The villa is modern and spacious with open access to the garden with views of the village tower. There is a fragrant smell of lavender and other flowers whilst you sit and enjoy music or eat outside in the garden, enjoying the views and relaxed atmosphere. I enjoy walking up to the village to get fresh bread and pastries and also the fruit and vegetables fresh from the fields. I like soaking up the atmosphere with the local villagers. I would spend an hour at the local bar enjoying a coffee and enjoying the patter of daily Istrian life. I am a keen cyclist and I love cycling to nearby villages or along the Adriatic coastline or if I am a little more energetic there is nothing more enjoyable than a game of tennis later in the evening under the floodlights and then having a dip in the pool. I enjoy starting the morning with a run to the nearby fishing port and along the coastal paths. This is a great place for everything that you might want to do, be it relaxation, culture, sport, adventure, eating out or getting back to nature.
We had a great time at the villa everything was brilliant. It felt like home from home can't wait to go back again
We stayed in Mervyns place with two families (4 adults and 2 children) and had a wonderful time even it was really hot during our stay. The house we found was exactly described as it was in in the homepage. Mervyn was always available via email for our questions etc. We enjoyed our stay very much.
We stayed in this villa in summer 2013 and returned in 2014. It is located on the edge of the village but close (5 mins.) to restaurants, bars and shops. Tar is slowly starting to attract more tourists but it still retains its rustic charm. The locals are exceptionally friendly and local wine is cheap and plentiful. Recently a new supermarket has opened on the main coastal road and is only 5 minutes drive away.
The Villa suits young families, families with teenagers, or those who just want to get away and relax. The kitchen would benefit from a microwave but other than that it was well appointed. Bedrooms are of a reasonable size and the living area spacious, leading out to a side garden complete with outdoor dining furniture. The front garden is a great place to sit and watch the sun go down!
Although the pool is meant to be communal, we usually had it to ourselves. The tennis court was busier in the early morning and the evening but still readily available.
Nearby are numerous villages to discover and several large towns such as Porec. Here you will find a range of supermarkets, restaurants and tourist type shops if that's what you want. A nearby beach is located at Lanterna about 10 minutes drive away. A tourist tram leaves Tar town square at regular intervals and can transport you there if you prefer not to drive. The beach is mainly rocky but the water crystal clear and great for snorkelling. There is a small sandy beach at Lanterna, but we found it filled up quickly. Here you have a range of water sports and a small water park to occupy the more energetic. A car is essential.
Tar is very well located being close to everything yet still away from the normal tourist traffic. We will definitely be back.
The villa is located at the end of a quiet country road in a cul-de-sac location. Tar-Vabriga is a sleepy Istrian village but lies nearby a host of other beautiful historical towns and villages such as picturesque fishing village of Novigrad with its new boating marina , the Roman town of Porec with antiquities dating back to biblical times. Also nearby is Europe's largest naturist resort. The hill top town of Groznan is famous for its musical festivals and winding streets. Listen to sounds of piano and cello reverberating around the narrow streets which hosts the month long festival of jazz music in the little village square. Sample Istria's finest gastronomic award winning restaurants. Local festivals predominate throughout the region in particularly the international film festival at Motovun where you can sit alongside the rich and famous. There is ample outdoor activities such as boating and hill walking all suitable for families. The villa is located along a quiet country road with views towards olive groves and the campanile tower in the beautiful village of Tar- Vabriga. The village provides a range of facilities, with award winning restaurants, wineries and local produce. Although in a rural location you are less than 2 kilometres from the beautiful Adriatic coast which boasts an array of water activities. This coast is dotted with beautiful sea villages and towns which can be accessed easily by car of if desired there are daily boat trips departing nearby to explore the coast. Day trips to Venice and Rovinj leave from the nearby town of Porec. Of note Tar is well placed for further travel into Slovenia and Italy and can serve as a gateway to the Dalmatian coast with its beautiful unspoilt islands for further exploration . As is advertised in many brochures Istria is what the Mediterranean used to be, beautiful unspoilt beaches, romantic quiet villages and long days of sunshine.
