Relax and enjoy the view from one of Drummond Island's waterfront homes. Overlooking Detour Passage, you will enjoy nature at its best. Watch the deer when they come down to the waterfront for a drink. With binoculars you might get a good look at Loon, Mink, Humming Birds, and Eagles. Great Lake freighters pass by daily, and Cruise Ships have been known to use the passage as well.
Minutes from Lake Huron, the passage features the Detour Reef Lighthouse. Built in the late 1840's, it is well preserved and a sight to remember. Excellent fishing is at your front door and thousands of acres of state land are available for hunting and hiking. The 'Retreat' offers three levels of living space with three private decks. For the kids (or kids at heart) there is Foosball and Air Hockey in the lower level. In the evening, enjoy a private campfire on the beach in one of the fire pits, you bring the marshmallows!
My wife and I have been married for 43 years, have too grown children, and 6 grandchildren. We have worked in the customer service field all of our lives. With our hectic work schedules, a week up at the Retreat is as relaxing as it gets. My wife is a quilter and she loves to 'set up shop' and enjoy the view while she sews.
Steve & Debbie Schroff purchased this house in 2003
All we had to do was look back over the water to DeTour Village and we new we were home. Our plan is to retire some day and enjoy this property for our selves. In the meantime, we would like to share it with you. I truly believe you will agree that it is heavenly. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, this is the spot.
The home has three levels of living. If you are up with friends, you can find an area for yourselves. Walking, biking, and exploring the island is fun and full of jeep and quad trails.
Our family stayed at 'The Retreat' and every member of our family enjoyed the stay. We had grandparents, grown children, and 2 teenagers (boys). This lovely home was perfect for us.
We took advantage of the Sandy beach, hot tub, and sauna. We made crepes for breakfast every morning ... great dinners in the well equipped kitchen.... We like to cook and purchased fresh veggies from Drummond Farms...lovely.
We have teenagers in our group so going out on the trails on ATVS was a big part of the trip for them. It was great to have 3 bathrooms and a washer and dryer when we returned from our awesome dusty rides.
We had a perfect week and we highly recommend this home. It was clean and welcoming. The owners and caretakers are great.
We will be back!!!
We stayed at the Retreat last July with another family. We had 4 adults and 4 young children all 6 years and younger. The home was very spacious and had everything we needed for the week. If you do bring really small children, I recommend bringing a couple of safety gates to block off both staircases. The only downfall to our week was that the weather was unseasonably cool and rainy for more than half of our trip. We weren't able to enjoy the water or do any swimming. But that is how mother nature works sometimes:) There really isn't a whole lot to do on Drummond when the weather is bad but we were able to keep the kids occupied with movies. We were thankful for the dvd player included with the home. (We had brought the dvds with us) We did however, LOVE having the hot tub to warm up in during the day and after the kids had gone to bed. The upper level deck is beautiful and very relaxing to sit on. This was our first trip to Drummond Island and we'd like to return again in the future. I'd definitely stay at the Retreat again! The owner was a very pleasant and honest person to work with. Thank you so much!
Our stay was fantastic. The house is wonderful, spacious, clean with wonderful amenities. Our four teenagers had a great time on the dock, beach and kayaking. We will definitely be back!
The Retreat was a great place to spend a week of vacation. The Retreat certainly lived up to the description and all the amenities were as advertised. I highly recommend.
We had 8 adults and 2 kids and found the house to be very accomodating for all. The house was just as nice as pictured and was very clean and comfortable. The water is very nice and we enjoyed the fire ring every night.
The whole atmosphere of the island is laid back and relaxing if you are looking to get away from the whole "tourist" hustle that most places have. We also enjoyed the atv trails, the fossil ledges, and even rented a fishing boat for a day for a very resonable price. I would recommend this place to anyone. We drove all over the island and didn't see a single place we would have traded for.
Drummond Island is a place to get away from the rat race of life. Relax and unwind while enjoying a one of a kind view. Many trials and nature sights, restaurants, two golf courses, landing strip for small planes, grocery store, and more.
