We are a retirement age couple who find ourselves away from San Francisco often these days. Although we love our home and we love San Francisco, we also like to travel. Now we rent our home to guests like you while we are away. When we are home we are usually working to upgrade and refresh our house. We know you will enjoy the results!
David purchased this condo in 1999
We have lived in the San Francisco area for more than 40 years and purchased our San Francisco home in 1999. In 2001 we began to spend time away and a friend suggested we try VRBO. We soon learned that people really enjoyed our home-like atmosphere. We are thrilled with the response we have gotten and we work hard to keep our new and returning guests contented and feeling cared for. Visitors say they appreciate our knowledge of the city and our professional attitude.
Most guests mention the feeling of a being in a real home on entering the house. We think this is because we still live there part-time and keep the house comfortable and well maintained not only for our guests but for ourselves as well. We are also proud of our garden, keeping it maintained even while we are away. We paint, scrape, clean, renew, update and replace parts of the house every time we come to visit. We think it shows. Our guests certainly enjoy our home. Read the reviews! Over 150 5 star ratings. We get these ratings not because everything is always perfect (we do try, however!) but because we go out of our way to help our guests settle in and feel at home and we respond quickly to any question. Finally, if you are bringing a car, you will absolutely love our little garage (for economy to mid-size cars). Parking rules in SF can make you dizzy. If you don't bring a car - great! - hop on the bus one block from the front door.
I stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute. The house is exactly how it looks, and has everything from a huge TV, to a fully equipped kitchen (better than mine at home!) There are also a number of rooms (dining area, kitchen, lounge and front room); meaning even if the maximum number of people stayed it wouldn’t feel cramped. The garden was also beautiful, and much bigger than the picture suggests. I even spied a BBQ!
Lucky supermarket (a full supermarket, not just a corner shop) is a short block away. It literally had every type of food you could imagine. As the kitchen was so well stocked I did end up preparing my own breakfasts, and cooked a couple of evenings. There were many pantry items left over from previous guests, so if you wanted to cook a meal you could check before going to Lucky. I was so glad of the kitchen, as a solo traveler eating out at night seemed a bit daunting. Plus it meant I had the home comforts in a great new city.
The laptop, printer and internet were useful. Used it to order take out one night (so I could watch the first episode of Glee on the biggest TV I've ever seen in my life). Connection was great, and the laptop large enough for a couple of people to crowd round and decide what to do in San Francisco. My Mac laptop also logged on to the wifi fine.
The bus stop was literally around the corner, and using the internet I was able to print out all routes very easily. I bought a 7 day passport that gave you unlimited travel on the Muni system. However at only $2 per trip, I don't think the passport was needed. When entering the bus your ticket is valid for up to 90 minutes. The maximum time I spent traveling was 45 minutes, and that was to the zoo so travel time really wasn't long. Plus you get to feel like a native (3 times somebody asked me for directions, so I think I blended in well!!!) the closest bus was also 24 hours so no worrying about trying to get home at night.
Booking the apartment was easy, and the few questions I had were answered very quickly. Given the time difference (I am in the UK) I do wonder if David does ever actually sleep.
There was a document provided that had all info in. everything from taxi numbers, to emergency contact details and how the washing machine works.
I would definitely stay here again. Much nicer than one of the hotels around union square (and cheaper, especially if you cook some meals)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautifully decorated and comfortable home in a great neighborhood for walking, shops and restaurants. Highly recommend. We will stay here again.
We sojourned in San Francisco for two months as part of our post retirement, round the world trip. The desire is actually live in various cities around the globe for an extended period and get to learn to live local as much as possible. We stayed at David's home the entire time. It became our home for that duration and we loved being there.
We were a little skeptical to see such glowing reviews of the property, seemed to be too good to be true, but they are 100% representative of his home. He takes special pride in catering to the needs of the tenants, is extremely attentive and a pleasure to deal with. We booked the place almost 18 months ahead of our arrival and there was great communication all along. David put our minds at rest and we were confident in finding what we were looking for ahead of time. He even told us of the best way to register our license plate for the various bridges in the area and this was both convenient and money saving. Little things like that are a real difference.
The location was perfect for us. We walk everywhere and we could walk to the ocean, we could walk to Golden Gate Bridge, we could walk to Downtown. We were close to Haight Ashbury, the Castro, the Presidio, and spent a lot of time in nearby Golden Gate Park. When we wanted to take a bus, we rode the Muni all the time, there is great access with several close routes.
The home is spacious and very well appointed. We largely cooked for ourselves and the kitchen has state of the art appliances and is fully stocked with everything you could ever need. In addition, don't discount the fact that one of the larger grocery stores in SFO is located on the next block, Lucky's, and it has both a large selection and good prices. We were there all the time.
One of the selection criteria for selecting a location in SFO was the available garage as we had driven across the US and Canada and wanted to have a car for day trips in and around the Bay Area. The parking is very tight for a mid sized car, Ford Fusion, but ahead of signing the lease David validated the dimensions of both my car and the available garage space in order to ensure that we would be able to use it effectively. We did, tight squeeze, but we did it. There was great cooperation with the upstairs neighbors in this regard as well, nice people.
David provides a cleaning service every two weeks, which is a luxury, and well appreciated.
You should have no reservation in using this property!
We stayed at David's San Francisco home for eight nights in August. We've never stayed at such a comfortable rental! The location is very central, with a great supermarket - Lucky's - only 1 1/2 blocks away. With such a great kitchen , we stayed in for quite a few meals. It was so nice to have a quiet haven to return to after the "big" city activity. David was great to deal with; always returning e-mails very promptly. If we ever return to San Fran, we wouldn't hesitate to book this great rental.
We are just finishing our first stay at David’s house, and I can’t say enough about how pleasurable this month has been. We’ve rented apartments in a variety of locations, and his place tops them all. The furnishings are of amazing quality – no leftover odds and ends here. I use a Cuisinart coffee maker in the morning! The art in the house is astounding, so many quality canvases, prints, photos. We spend a fair amount of our inside time just appreciating them. For a one-bedroom house, the space is amazing, a full kitchen, family room, formal living and dining rooms, thick soft carpets everywhere, it’s truly remarkable. The garden in back is great. It’s well-tended, and sitting out there with a beer at the end of a day of touring is perfect.
There is a new, huge Lucky’s supermarket literally a block away – and it’s a flat walk, no hills! Three of our favorite places to eat and drink are just across the street from the market, and the lovely Panhandle is a mere three blocks away. We have great memories now of sunny walks among the giant eucalyptus. We’re not in the heart of “old” San Francisco, and we personally find that to be a plus. It’s wonderful to be able to enjoy that area sometimes, and then to come home to a quiet, lovely residential area. We are bus people, and the buses in this area are incredibly convenient. The Ferry Building is 15-20 minutes away by bus, another whisks you right to the center of the beautiful Presidio, four or five others move you to Fisherman’s Wharf, Nob Hill, the Castro and Noe Valley, on and on.
David is impressively attentive to any issue you may have and responds almost always the same day to emails. He has a handyman on call, there are cleaners that show up every two weeks, very clear instruction notebooks strategically placed around the house. Communicating with him has been an ongoing pleasure.
Too good to be true? How sincere is this evaluation? We’ve already booked the house for next year!
I was in San Fran for conference and Golf. Regarding the Conference, the location was close to the Wharf area for me to get to quickly. I was impressed with the the fully fitted kitchen with utensils- everything one would use to cook for a family. I used the toaster, but did not cook. The home was Clean, and ready for use. There's a store for food and drinks 1 block away. I left coffee filters in the unit when I left, so it would be there for You. Regarding Golfing, I played Presidio and TPC Harding, so I washed my dirty clothes. I can't do that at a hotel. Best of all, was use of the garage for parking the rental Infinity SUV- There was Nowhere to park in the neighborhood. Please do not Block the Driveway, since its a 2 unit home, the guys upstairs need to come and go!!! The entire home was great, but Parking in San Fran is a premium and this is a Very important feature. Don't rent anywhere in SF if they don't have reserved parking- you'll get ticket and towed!!! I would stay here again,
I can’t wait to return to this gem of a home. I was enjoying my week’s stay so much I actually didn’t want to leave! I think you’ll feel the same! It is a delightful mix of vintage San Francisco, wonderful artwork and modern updates in the kitchen and bath. The pictures do not exaggerate the charm and artfully appointed living spaces. You can tell the owners have put much soul and time in to truly make this a welcoming and very comfortable home for a lovely getaway or an extended stay. Definitely first class guest service in mind! What a great responsive host! Just about all the essential “little things” were there. Did I say this home is clean, comfortable, charming, clean, convenient; you can walk to Golden Gate Park and it’s a straight short-ish shot to the beach, and a close walk to a full super market (like less than 2 blocks away), coffee shops, bus stops, and some good places to eat? Or you can always relax with a book or glass of wine in the lovely outside patio/garden area. If you are a media junkie or staying for business I don’t think you’ll be disappointed either. David has prepared great operating manuals for the business station, media center, and kitchen and laundry appliances, along with great suggestions for your stay. Enjoy!!
