About the property

House - 2 Bedrooms - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 2-4)

Garden lovers and romantics alike will especially enjoy this charming cottage that has the best of both worlds--views of the ocean and a garden setting. Enjoy a romantic breakfast or lunch in the secluded North Coast garden surrounded by flowers and tall trees that are protected from the cold winds on the bluffs. Soak in our Japanese cedar hot tub in the same private setting to the sound of the little rushing stream and waterfall in the gulch below. Our deck is perfect for basking in the sun during the day or stargazing at night.

The house is light and bright with vaulted ceilings, skylights, and French doors looking on the garden. Enjoy evening warmth by the Finnish wood-burning stove in this cozy home with a open kitchen perfect for entertaining with friends. There is also an antique carved piano or satellite TV for evening enjoyment. The romantic Master bed is filled with down comforters and flowing, sheer curtains. Wake up to the view of the ocean framed by the coastal forest.

About Kim Kelly

We are a family of three that loves to travel to special artistic places around the world... and Mendocino is one of those special places!

Kim Kelly purchased this house in 2001

Why Kim Kelly chose North Coast California

Mendocino is the perfect place for us because of the pristine beauty of nature, the arts and culture in the area and amazing restaurants and wineries. We came to Mendocino for the first time 10 years ago and fell in love with the place and were married on the romantic ocean cliffs there. It is truly a unique, perfect place lost in time and once you visit you will not want to leave.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Kim is a wonderful host. Nothing much I can say for the house but pure happiness and the house was perfect! All the things we need, it's all there. The location is perfect since it's just a couple of minutes away from point cabrillo, fort bragg, and the mendocino proper. Very accessible and the place was so quiet and really private. We were lucky that when we were there, the weather was on point and all day sunny. We were able to use the jacuzzi and it's awesome. We cooked our meals and the kitchen was fully equiped. All in all, if you are looking for a quiet and private place to stay in Mendocino, and you are considering also the locations of the places to go to, this is the perfect place to be. I recommend this to everyone as we did enjoy our stay in Kim's place. 5 out of 5 stars!

this is our second time here. the view is great, the house is great, well equipped. the hot tub is great however you need to know how to turn on the pump. it went off the first time we were there and again this time. we were prepared this second visit. my husband was able to get it going.

fantastic place to truly get away and relax, and if wanted enjoy some local good food/talent

  • 5 of 5

The place was spotless and the decorating wonderful. All lended to a truly relaxing weekend. You do need to be comfortable with heating with wood burning stove and it takes some experience so you can get entire house warm. View from living room and master of the ocean is so beautiful. The owner was very available and helpful. The area is full of trails for hiking as well. Kitchen nice to work in even though had minimal dishes and was an electric stove.

Wonderful!!

  • 5 of 5

We spent Thanksgiving with my daughter and son in law at Garden by the Sea and it was cozy and inviting. Immersed in the forest of Northern California gave us a zen like quality to our weekend. We had everything we need to cook fantastic dinners. We relaxed and watched the ocean and were warmed by the great wood stove!. Thank you Kim for sharing your home with us!! We will definitely return!!

A perfectly relaxing stay...

  • 5 of 5

The garden by the sea is an absolutely beautiful and COZY home.

We loved the quiet setting in a woodsy area with a nice view of the Pacific. The wood burning stove that heats the house warmed the home perfectly and also contributed to an absolutely relaxing vibe. If you sit on the day bed in the living room for too long, you might be in for a nice snooze or an early night. Soaking in the wooden Japanese hot tub was both the perfect start and end to each day. The kitchen was well equipped and we were able to make some nice meals. The garden was full of fresh herbs which we used to enhance our home cooked dishes.

Downtown Mendocino was about a 5 minute drive from the home and Fort Bragg was only about 10 minutes drive in the other direction. Each town was charming and each had their own perks, but two of the three nights we were happy to stay in after day tripping in the area.

If you're looking for pure relaxation, this is the perfect spot. We really enjoyed our time and I could definitely picture visiting again in the future. We didn't meet the hosts, but Kim and Juan did a great job creating a very welcoming experience in their beautiful home.

Perfect week in artistic setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in this darling cottage and had a great girl's getaway. Such a beautiful setting, the hot tub was spectacular looking up at the stars at night. A romantic setting, a little rustic and made for disconnecting from the outside world- altogether charming. Would love to return!
