Overview

Ferrisburgh Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 BR 1 Bath Sleeps 6, Huge dock, Bikes, Mooring,Large lawn, Swing Set and toys!

This classic cottage is set on 1.3 acres of land with a large, sunny yard, large dock and 300 ft of waterfront facing an undisturbed state park. The cottage is designed as a family retreat and therefore simply furnished. While we have WIFI there is no TV, or video games. Its a great place to unplug, relax with the family and pick up a book or a fishing rod.

The property is a balance of nice lawn for games and outdoor eating and a waterfront great for swimming and boating. The special location opposite parkland means that the lake is quiet and the vista is great. The dirt roads have little traffic making them great for walks or bike rides with kids or just the quiet nature sounds.

In the house the three bedrooms sleep 6 people. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed; the second bedroom has two beds; a full and a twin and the third has twin beds setup for children (linens and towels are provided). The bedrooms open onto a living room with a gas fireplace for cool fall evenings.

The Eat-in kitchen has an electric stove, oven and microwave, dishwasher, and Washer/Dryer. The kitchen breakfast table has views of the lake. On the back of the house, a beautiful, large, screened-in porch provides panoramic views of the lake and the Adirondack park and mountains on the New York side of the lake. A new updated central single bathroom has a pedestal sink, toilet, and large new Bathtub/Shower.

Outside there is lots to do. There is Lawn furniture, 4 bikes, a Weber charcoal grill (no gas grill), Hammock, a children's swing set, very large dock and mooring which are included. Access to the private dock is via a rustic path and stairs.

A large 17' canoe, rowing dinghy may be included if they are within repair.

Golf, Tennis, and Babysitting are available for fees associated with Basin Harbor Club, the local resort 1 mile down the road.

Beautiful property and wonderful cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We have enjoyed this special place with our family for the past four summers. The cottage itself is comfortable and provides plenty of room for all of us including our adult children. The oversized screen porch is perfect for dining, reading, watching the many birds that come to visit and of course gazing over the lake! The property itself is beautiful and well-maintained. The dock is substantial and the location is great for boaters. We love being near Basin Harbor and Vergennes and of course a reasonable distance to Burlington. The area offers endless opportunities for walks, runs, hiking, and fabulous exploring.

Visit to Hering "cottage"

  • 4 of 5

The Hering summer home is beautifully situated overlooking Lake Champlain. The grounds are spacious and well kept, with beautiful trees, a hammock and a wooden play structure for kids. The house is roomy, well maintained, well equipped, and full of interesting books! We enjoyed our stay there. Our one wish would have been for at least a small beach and swimming-friendly area or float at the waterfront.

Owner's Response: Thank your for your great description of your stay. So happy that you had a great time. The lake was 2 ft low this year so swimming will be better next year! Look forward to seeing you again!

Wonderful location

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful house in a beautiful part of the lake. We enjoyed the peaceful location, clean, deep water and great views. The large room facing the lake was a perfect place to hang out in the evenings and play card games. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped for family meals.

Great week. Positive experience.

  • 4 of 5

The location of the property is great on a private and quiet street. Easy access to Lake Champlain. Quiet mornings of reading, great local biking, hiking and plenty to do on the Lake. Pet friendly. Took our golden retriever who may have had the best time. House is clean and well maintained but a little dated (needs new doors and windows, and upgraded outdoor furniture). Owners very accommodating and friendly providing info before trip and calling to make sure we had everything we needed. Some tree pruning in the back could greatly enhance the wonderful lake views. Vergennes is about an 8 mile - 15 minute drive from the house which was a bit further than we perceived but it's great morning bike ride for breakfast. Overall it was a very positive experience we would recommend.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review, We make a big effort to keep the house a wonderful place to enjoy. After your visit we renovated the front door, painted windows and installed a new bathroom. Yes, some things at the house are older, but we attempt to balance charm, convenience and economy when taking care of the house. Hope to see again!

Great Summer Rental

  • 5 of 5

I have rented several summer homes on Lake Champlain during the past ten years.

I rented this home in August of 2009 and this property was by far the most enjoyable.

The house has great views from several rooms, the bedrooms are large and furnishings were high quality. This area is well suited for bike riding and there is nearby public golf course. I look forward to renting again in 2010.

The Champlain Valley is set between the Green mountains to the East and the Champlain Lake and Adirondacks to the West. The valley is a breadbasket, home to agriculture, commerce and a rich American history. The valley offers many attractions to the vacationer.

The valley was once a critical war corridor for revolutionary America as it sought independence from the British. Later the Commercial value of the “highway” of the lake and canal system dominated the lake. Only in the 20th century did the lake begin to be a vacation destination with the advent of train travel and the Adirondack vacation movement. At this time a number of “Summer Camps” (uninsulated simple cottages) began to spring up along the lake. Our cottage is modest example of one of these camps.

Today the valley maintains its rural history with a strong preservation campaign to save open space through conservation. In a effort to help visitors explore the valley we have highlighted activities on our website
