Riga is the capital of Latvia, a small Baltic Sea nation that has been free from Soviet rule for 24 years. The Old Town is almost completely restored to its ravishing beauty of the 30's when its standard of living equaled Stockholm, Copenhagen and Amsterdam. It is a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE. This apartment is the personal residence of the president of an international Christian charity. He lives in it about 6 months per year. It's available to rent when he is not in Latvia.
It is about 100 years old, but fully renovated. It's in a large apartment building with an old, but functional elevator. The location is amazing, right in the middle of the Old Town. Look out the window and see the National Archives, Philharmonic Hall, Small Guild. Step out of the front door and you are in Dome Cathedral Square. There are countless restaurants, cafés, beer gardens, malls, antique stores, galleries, health spas, museums and places of historical interest. Street parking is not possible; public parking garage near by.
EVERY YEAR THOUSANDS OF EUROPEAN TOURISTS DECLARE THAT RIGA IS EUROPE'S BEST KEPT SECRET. Come and see why.
We traveled to Riga at the end of November to adopt our sixth child and since we were going to be there for a month, we wanted to take advantage of our smaller group before our older children arrived. This apartment was simply perfect. There were four of us to start and the accommodations were more than perfect. The building itself is steeped in history and once you step out the front door of the building you are greeted with the sights and sounds of Old Town. We were there during Christmas Market and it was, as described, simply magical. On the unusually warm days, we could open the windows and hear the Christmas music wafting in from the street. Just out the door are souvenir shops, a Laima shop!, Stender's is literally out and to the left and a wonderful pankuka restaurant is steps away as well. What is exceptionally nice about this apartment is you often hear about Old Town being loud with revelry into the early morning hours. Not so with this apartment's configuration. We were able to sleep soundly every night we were there. I seriously became very sad to leave our "neighborhood" and move further out towards Center City. The apartment itself is wonderfully equipped with wifi, a french press coffee pot and really all the amenities you need for a very comfortable stay. Settle into one of the cozy chairs for reading and just enjoy Riga! Oh, and don't forget to appreciate the wonderful artwork throughout the apartment! I believe it's all original! ;-) Livu Square is a short walk away as is the House of Blackheads. What I particularly enjoyed is becoming a regular with the shopkeepers while we were there. We were fortunate to get to know many of the neighborhood folks, making it feel even more like home. Oh, and Double Coffee and Charley's Pizza are literally downstairs as well. I would love to stay here again!
If you're interested in being centrally located in Riga's Old City, you can't do much better than this apartment conveniently located adjacent to Dome Square. It's well equipped and features lovely music floating in from a variety of musicians in the neighborhood.
A comfortable and cozy place to enjoy visiting with my sons. Everything we needed was within walking distance and easy to find. The choir practice nearby was an extra treat too!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Thank you
Perfect location in Old Riga! Walking distance from shopping, dining and most tourist sites and close to bus and tram stops for further destinations. Clean apartment with all needed amenities and the comfort of home. Would stay here every time if available!
Our stay in Riga for the first time was only enhanced by the apartment in Old Riga. The sounds from the music guild wafted in the open windows in the evening, some evenings street musicians could be heard just below. It was blissful. The location was fantastic with neighbor bakery just around the corner and lattes just out the front door. Of course the french press in the kitchen was handy for homebrew coffee. The apartment was comfortable and felt like home not a hotel which is what we really wanted. Vineta the apartment manager was an angel and off course our kids were enthralled with the old fashioned lift. The bathtub was great! I could soak up to my neck in Latvian bath salts after long days of walking the beautiful city of Riga. Thanks Chuck for sharing your home!
