Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Tony

Just a little note to say thank you, and how lovely your apartment is.

We have been going to menorca for the last 12 years and your apartment was very clean, and had everything we needed.

Especially the wi fi, which my 2 teenage boys appreciated.

Thank you for letting us stay a little longer too.

Many thanks

Relaxing 2 week stay in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

Just back from spending 2 weeks in Tony and Sue’s fantastic apartment. The apartment was well-equipped, clean and more than comfortable for my wife, 2 children (aged 9 and 11) and I. The grounds of the San Jaime complex are very well kempt and the pool in zone 4 next to the apartment was clean and had life-guards/first aiders constantly present, making it perfect for families, plus the water slide was certainly a hit! The food and evening entertainment in the San Jaime club was really good and exceeded our expectations.

The information provided by Tony and Sue was excellent and we tried many of their recommendations for restaurants and also for trips out in our hire car. The Ses Garces Beach bar was our favourite to watch the sun go down in an idyllic setting and the food in the Restaurante Compostela in Son Bou, as recommended, was first class.

The apartment is only a 10 min walk to the beach and whilst the beach was busy in some sections it was very easy to find quieter spots. The gently shelving beach made it ideal for the kids who also enjoyed snorkelling and swimming in the sea.

The location of the apartment in Son Bou also made it a perfect base for exploring the island and we had enjoyable trips to Mahon, where we went on the glass-bottomed boat round the harbour, Cuitadella, Monte Toro for fantastic views of the island, Fornells and also a walk along the beach to Santo Tomas. Whilst we had a hire car, there is a bus stop close to the apartment, so a hire car isn't a must have. The fact that the apartment is at the front of the complex made for great sea views and we tended to eat lunch on the balcony making full use of the nearby bakery and many a late evening was also spent sitting on the balcony enjoying a night cap or two!

Tony and Sue had provided games, lots of DVD’s and books which meant that our kids were happy to stay in the apartment for an hour or so after lunch during the hottest part of the day, this also meant that they still had lots of energy to play on the beach until late in the evening and to enjoy the entertainment in the San Jaime club to the full.

There are many more places for us to visit on the island and things to do for the kids than we managed during our stay, the apartment was a home from home and our holiday was everything we could have wanted and more – we would love to go back in future.

Owner's Response: This shows that there really is so much to do if you want to. Menorca is a small island that is packed with leisure options. On the other hand you can just take it as it comes - one day at the local pool, next day at the nearby beach, and repeat!

Perfect stay / best price/value

  • 5 of 5

Probably best equipped apartment I've ever been. Perfect location of apartment plus very nice and calm place Son Bou. On the top of that almost immediate reactions on emails from apartment owners and very well prepared "documentation" related to Menorca, arrival, apartment etc. I can recommend it!

Lovely property, run down resort.

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here in June 2016 for a week. The property is lovely and very well equipped with lots of extras such as spare hats, buckets and spades, raincoats etc. The location of property is great. It's next to the pool and very close to bakery and supermarket with 2 restaurants within 5 mins walk. The beach is an easy 10 min walk with no hills.

The only thing I would say is that the apartment is a little on the small side. Also we have an 18 month old that likes to climb so being upstairs with 2 balconies that have low railings and also stone stairs to the apartment meant that we couldn't really sit outside and relax with him.

The beach is very lovely with soft sand and shallow water for children to paddle although currents are strong and someone had to be rescued whilst we were there. The beach has lifeguards for most of the day.

San Jaime resort is kept nicely with pretty grounds and no litter.

However, the San Jaime club and pool area area have seen better days. They are run down and tatty looking. There is a games room that had lots of exposed wires and plugs plus a few broken games. Not good.

The club has entertainment every night. I know some people may enjoy this but every night is a bit much for us. It is very loud and if you're sitting outside on your balcony that is all you can hear. I would prefer to hear the sound of the waves and cicadas !!!!

Son Bou itself is very small and also tatty. There was a fire in one of the main bars and it is now a burned out derelict building that looks awful. There is also a derelict bowling alley that also adds to the rundown appearance.

Spanish food is hard to come by in the restaurants. There is a lot of English breakfasts, pizzas, burgers etc and the kids meals were chips with everything and not a vegetable in sight. Also it seems the prices had been set in the resort amongst the business owners and I felt it was expensive and bad value for money as food was pretty dreadful.

The best place was the gelateria.

It rained one day when we were there which is fine if you don't have children. However, if you do there is nothing to keep them occupied so we were all going stir crazy by the end of the day.

We enjoyed our time there but we will not be returning to that place in menorca again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your positive feedback on the apartment. The ongoing low-scale resort renovation work (which has been paused for the summer season) should help to address some of the other points raised.

Sensational Son Bou

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from 7 days in Tony and Sue's apartment. What a fantastic place! We absolutely loved it and can't wait to be back. All correspondence before we went away was great and made the lead up to holiday nice and easy. When we arrived I realised I had forgotten to order a cot (!) but by the time we had been out for a couple of hours and come back, Tony had arranged for it to be delivered to the apartment. The apartment itself is beautiful - a real home from home. There were lots of toys for our younger boys (3 and 1) who raced round the apartment in glee immediately we were there! There are also lots of CDs and DVDs for those moments you just need to keep them occupied! They have obviously really thought about making it family friendly - including nice little touches like hairbands and hairclips in the bathroom - and essential for us Mums who often forget things like that! The balcony has a lovely view out to the sea - even though it overlooks the road, the road is very quiet and has the added bonus of the Thomas Train going past which the kids loved! The balcony was of a good height for us not to worry about the kids..

The area is great - we particularly loved the beach which has been protected from over development by the sand dunes - the beach was very clean and the water crystal clear. The beach bars are great for a spot of lunch or a sunset meal which we tried one night. The cafes and restaurants in Son Bou are very family friendly - for us it was the perfect size. Lots of choice, but not spoilt by mass tourism. A hidden gem almost. The boys loved the swimming pool at the the complex the most which is a great size and very clean. We particularly liked the fact that it was surrounded by grass - gave it a nice feel. The splash pool was used a lot as even our littlest could stand in it and even if you were not in the water you could sit on the side and watch them and know they were safe. We were lucky to have gone out of school holidays and we found that the pool area never got too busy. There is entertainment every evening which we didnt see much of (but probably will next time!) but we enjoyed listening to it from the balcony on the odd occasion. It always goes off at 11pm so we never worried about the noise (and it wasn't particularly noisy - the boys didn't even notice). All in all an absolutely fab holiday. We loved the apartment (thank you) and Minorca and we will be back!

Fantastic location, view and very clean

  • 5 of 5

We were so impressed with the apartment, resort and location. We went with our two children 16 and 14 and they were looking for a more "socialable" holiday. This fitted the bill exactly. There was a great friendly atmosphere at the pool where they could make friends. The food at the pool restaurant was fantastic. Me and my husband could spend the day at the beach (a short walk away) and meet them later. We loved the entertainment in the evening. The restaurants in the area were very nice. We particularly enjoyed Flamenco evening at the Sunset Bar overlooking the beach. The local supermarket was reasonably priced. Because we hired a car we did do a big shop in Alaior although to be honest we didn't really need a car because everything is so convenient. Would definitely recommend this resort to any families and although it suited our two teenagers it is also very geared up for children of all ages.

The apartment was very clean, had everything we needed - we cooked in on a number of occasions. When we had a minor problem the people looking after the apartment so quickly and efficiently it was unbelievable. So impressed with everything. The only comment I would say is because it was sooo hot during our stay it was hard to keep cool at night but I am really not complaining because we had fantastic weather.

Great apartment in a very good location.

  • 5 of 5

After booking, the owners were incredibly helpful and sent us plenty of information to make sure we knew where we were going etc. before we arrived. They also arranged for a cot to be ready and waiting for us upon arrival, which was great.

The apartment was in a great spot at the front of the complex overlooking the bird sanctuary wetlands and the beach beyond, which meant the view from the balcony was unobstructed by other apartments and not overlooked. The place was clean and well looked after and had everything you would want in a holiday apartment including a well appointed kitchen, toys for the kids, wifi, cable TV and DVDs.

The apartment has parking directly outside and is less than 100m from the pool, supermarket and bakery and only a relaxed 10 minute walk to the main area of restaurants and shops in Son Bou and the access to the excellent beach, where the sea is calm and clean and good for swimming. The 3 beach bars were the best spots for eating out in our opinion.

The only potential negative I can think of is that Club San Jaime (centre of the complex with a restaurant, bar and pool) is quite nearby and they have live music, which can be quite noisy of an evening, but this is over before 11pm and didn't bother us very much - in fact we quite enjoyed the Queen tribute band. Worth noting that the apartment is on the first floor if you are nervous about little ones on stairs or balconies although we had no trouble with this either.

Menorca generally is great for families with kids and you can hire a car cheaply and get anywhere on the island within 45 minutes. It's the easiest place to drive that I've ever been so i would recommend hiring a vehicle.

In summary, I am sure we'll be back and would have no hesitation booking this apartment again next year.

The apartment is set amongst spacious landscaped gardens, close to Son Bou's superb child friendly beach, the longest on Menorca. All resort amenities are within walking distance. Son Bou is a firm favourite with families and couples due to the friendly village atmosphere, golden sand dunes, sun and sea. The resort comprises: 3 swimming pools, 3 supermarkets, a satisfying selection of good bars and restaurants, childrens' playgrounds, nightly indoor disco & twice weekly entertainment programme (June - Sept). For those wishing to explore the island, Son Bou is well placed with easy access to all island attractions. Locally you will find a tourist train, bus services and several car hire firms. In addition, Son Bou has been designated as a 'Site of Special Interest' due to the presence of historic and ecological sites in the vicinity.
