Come to sunny New Mexico and experience the serenity and delight of sustainable living. A perfect get-a-way, yet close to Taos, the ski valley and Santa Fe. It's a favorite place for artists of all kinds: writers, musicians, poets.....
*HelioHouse has stunning views, and is located on the mesa of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Let us pamper you or leave you alone-whichever you prefer. Regardless, you'll feel more like you’re a guest in a luxury hotel than in a home built using recycled tires, aluminum cans and bottles.

*Helio is the Greek word for sun.

As a double visitor to this incredible 'home', I can heartily recommend a long stay at HelioHouse. I advise you to stay long term, because once you're there, you'll not want to leave anytime soon!! It's hynoptically beautiful and peaceful beyond description. I found it alluring in it's completeness as every amenity is there to provide for your uninterupted solace, even grocery service so you'll never have to leave! As a songwriter, I needed to have this sort of communion with nature with the modern conveniences of HelioHouse to really feel a balance in my spirit and my experiences there were exactly what I needed to totally rejuvenate in luxury.
My husband and I have stayed at the Helio House 4 times since 2010 and are absolutely smitten by its beauty, comfort, and seclusion. For someone looking to escape the chatter of city life and take in the beauty of Taos, this is the perfect destination! The owner, Jill, is so friendly, hospitable, and accommodating. She has made it such a pleasure, that we can't seem to stay away! See you soon, Helio House!
My wife and I have been thinking about off the grid living and Earthships were naturally something that crossed our path. We wanted to stay in one and found the HelioHouse. What a wonderful experience. The manager was very responsive to emails prior to our trip and was very helpful in making sure that we had the experience that we wanted. It was awesome to stay in a community of other Earthships and experience where it all began for these types of homes. The Heliohouse was very cozy and comfortable. All the amenities were clean and we had a wonderful time. We will be recommending it to all our "Earthy" friends and if we make it back down to Taos we will be staying there again.
We enjoyed our stay in the Helio House. It was so comfortable and well furnished. Jill was responsive to our initial request and made us feel very welcome. She even provided coffee and cream for us. Her directions made it easy to find and we loved the experience of an off the grid home. Would definitely love
to come stay again. Thank you providing us with you beautiful home for the first three days of our road trip.
In addition to being one of the few areas in the US that allow alternative housing, Taos offers many recreational activities. It's known for it's artist communities and the centuries old Taos Pueblo.
Other tourist attractions are the homes of Kit Carson and Mabel Dodge Luhan, along with the Rio Grande Gorge and Taos Ski Valley. Twenty miles northwest is the D. H. Lawrence Ranch, (originally known as the Kiowa Ranch and now owned by the University of New Mexico), the home of the English novelist, D. H. Lawrence in the 1920s. By all accounts he loved the ranch high up in the mountains, the only property he ever owned. It is believed that his ashes are buried there at the D. H. Lawrence Memorial.
Other Activities: rafting, hot air balloons ***World Class Skiing***
Ski: Taos Ski Valley is the premier ski resort for alpine skiing in northern New Mexico
