About The McGanns
We are happy to welcome you to our adopted hometown of Washington, D.C. in our guest apartment. We are a local attorney and a professor who have spent nearly two decades lovingly restoring this 1895 Victorian row home while raising our now-teenagers.
The McGanns purchased this Apartment in 2000
Why The McGanns chose Northwest Washington
We named this space "Bohemian Gardens" as a tribute to two nearby iconic U Street cultural spaces: Republic Gardens and Bohemian Caverns. Both venues thrived in the roaring 1920s, had revivals in the 1990s, and face uncertain futures with D.C.'s current renaissance. The English-style apartment has unique features such as restored concrete floors, original art and prints, and antique discoveries that have stories to tell. We wish to revive the spirit of these long-gone places for our guests.
What makes this Apartment unique
Bloomingdale is the absolutely best neighborhood in D.C. On a good day, you might catch Rudes (a New Orleans native) firing up the grill for his famous barbecue or making his "cardio" mac & cheese (for strong hearts only).

Great basement apartment
Great basement apartment. Close to several restaurants.
Overall, highly recommended
Ultimately, we enjoyed our stay at this lovely property. The location and neighborhood were excellent and it was very easy to navigate around the city, especially given the property's proximity to bus routes. The only issue we had was that there was a misunderstanding about our arrival date and so the apartment was dirty when we first arrived and it was a little difficult to initially gain access. However, once that was sorted out everything was great. The apartment was quiet and the hosts were attentive to our questions and needs. We would stay there again.
The apartment was clean and close to all you want to see while in Washington DC. Our hosts were wonderful.
I had a wonderful stay there. The mcganns are lovely people and very welcoming. They provided a list of places to go near the house that were wonderful, the black bear cafe is lovely, you have to go to see granny and the boys on sundays. It is very quiet even though it is in the middle of city
