We have had a wonderful stay. Thank you so much Helen F and family, London

'We have had a wonderful holiday. The Edwardian has been an excellent base for exploring the city and has been like a home from home-comfortable, relaxing and in such a good location with lots of shops, restaurants, cafes and with the 'Muni' [public bus] right on the doorstep'. Carol and Edin G.

September 2016

'Loved the keyless entry. Barbara was very welcoming and helpful to us: Great hostess! We will be passing on our success story to our travelling friends and I'm sure you'll be hearing from them. San Fran is an amazing, active city and easy and convenient to get around, as well as fun! Each day was a rewarding adventure that suited our family wants. We had a wonderful time here and The Edwardian is a perfect place in a great area and ideal for using the 'Muni' (public bus)'. Helen S

The Edwardian May 2008

  • 5 of 5

Having just returned from a week's stay at the Edwardian I wanted to put in writing what a lovely apartment this is. So many old original features but with all modern conveniences also included.

The property was very clean when we arrived and extremely well equipped with 2 TVs (one being a huge HDTV), DVD player etc and the kitchen has every kind of utensil and appliance you could ever need. Everything was in full working order with a set of instructions available.

The beds and sofas were all extremely comfortable, it really was like being in a proper home rather than staying in some soul-less rental property.

In terms of location, it couldnt be better either. You are only a short, easy bus service into downtown San Francisco and all the major attractions but you are far enough away to escape from the noise and hustle as well. The Golden Gate Park is literally at the end of the street and provides a real sense of being in 'real' San Francisco with locals walking their dogs and playing with their kids in this beautiful park. We spent a day there just wandering around and recharging our batteries.

You can also easily get down to the ocean on the bus which is another nice way to spend a few hours relaxing watching guys surfing - should the weather behave!

There are plenty of places to eat/drink locally with Haight Ashbury being just a couple of blocks away. We also followed the recommendation of a leaflet left at the apartment and ate at the Abacus chinese just a minutes' walk away - the best Chinese food we've ever tasted - superb!

The service from the management company, particularly our represenative Alysa, was exemplary both in the lead-up to our stay and during our stay. Everything was handled quickly and professionally but with such friendliness also, with advice and guidance and details on the weather and local amenties given.

I really cant praise the service we received enough and would definitely recommend the apartment as the place to stay for a trip to San Francisco. We had a most memorable holiday in this beautiful city made all the more enjoyable by our accommodation, it was also so nice to feel that we had a friendly, reliable local person to call on should there be any kind of difficulties (which there werent), it took so much of the stress away that can be associated with long-haul holidays.

A big thankyou to Alysa and to the owners of the Edwardian for providing us with such a lovely place to stay, we hope to be back !

Owner's Response: The owners love San Francisco, and really do try hard to provide an atmosphere where guests can "be San Franciscans" --not just tourists. Thank you Di A for sharing your experience with us!

Spacious apartment in great location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 stayed at the Edwardian for 5 days and we couldn't have been more pleased. Alyssa, the hostess, was there to meet us and show us around the apartment. There were 2 large bedrooms and 2 separate sitting areas each with a TV. The kitchen was well stocked and recently updated. It was immaculate. Initially we were concerned about only having 1 bathroom. However the toilet was in a separate room from the shower and sink which was a huge plus when getting ready in the morning. The beds were extremely comfortable. The location was outstanding. We were all over the city and used public transportation most of the time. Street noise was not an issue at all. There were many amenities in the neighborhood...restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, ice cream shops etc. There was no need to contact Alyssa during our stay because everything worked as expected. Our security deposit was refunded the morning of our checkout. We know this will be our first choice when we return to San Francisco. We highly recommend the Edwardian!

Charming, spacious, great location

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 2 couples stayed at The Edwardian for Outside Lands. This place has a ton of character, 2 living rooms, 2 bedrooms, a FULLY stocked kitchen, and a wonderful back deck that was perfect for snacking and having a few drinks. Great corner market and place to grab coffee not more than .1 mile away. We spent afternoons taking quick cab rides to The Mission and Chinatown, and of course walking up to Haight. It is steps to Golden Gate Park, as well as a Whole Foods, and The Haight Market (the produce - OMG!). Highly recommend for anyone that wants a centrally located charming space.

Very poor property, needs a complete overhaul

  • 1 of 5

This property was very disappointing, it has been maintained very badly with old peeling paintwork and damp walls. It is a very large apartment with 2 bedrooms and 2 living rooms but the bathroom facilities are very poor. It has one freestanding bath with a shower above, but sandpaper has been glued to the bottom of the bath so it is unusable as such. The toilet door does not lock properly. Overall whilst it isn't dirty it is so old and decrepit and smells of damp that it was impossible to stay in. We had booked for four nights but it was so horrible we left the next morning. To be fair to the owners they refunded the money after we complained but I wouldn't want anyone else to go there without fair warning. The twin beds also still have plastic sheeting on them which is just gross

Owner's Response: We are at a loss as to how to respond to this review. The same hotel cleaning company and staff have maintained the Edwardian (built in 1909 and designated a historical building) for the past fifteen years and we have never had a complaint about the accommodations. The entire property was redecorated in May 2014 with new wallpaper and an expanded front sitting room with its own television. Non-slip adhesive coating does cover the entire bottom of the claw foot bathtub--but that is for the safety of our guests. Like the bathtub, sinks, toilets, sofa cushions, and mattresses--the safety mat is professionally steam-cleaned between each occupancy as are all counters, sinks, and floors. The Edwardian staff welcomes suggestions: A suggestion form is provided each guest at check out time as the owners are always looking for ways to improve. We listen and accommodate suggestions where we can. The property was re-booked the same day these guests checked out. These follow-up guests sent an email stating: "We have had a wonderful stay, thank you so much". This has been the typical response from our guests over the past fifteen years -- we have several repeat guests--and we are very sorry this reviewer was unhappy.

Fantastic ,highly recommend !

  • 5 of 5

This apartment exceeded our expectations ,the pictures on the website are good but don't do the apartment justice ,it's huge. The two separate living rooms spacious kitchen diner and two large bedrooms were immaculately clean it was a pleasure to return to after a busy day sightseeing and so nice we ordered takeaways in several times ! Supermarket was a short walk away and Muni bus route right outside very convenient ,we have used holiday rentals for the last eight to ten years both in the US and Europe and this is the best we have stayed in .

We must not forget to mention how helpful Alysa was during our stay nothing seemed too much trouble ,it was nice to know she was a phone call away she is such a fantastic character !

All in all this is a perfect appartment in a fantastic city - a real home from home for our family of four (two adults two teenagers ! )

Affordable indulgence, and a great energy

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in this apartment. We are 2 adults with teenage kids. We couldn't match all the wonderful assets that this apartment afforded us anywhere else. It provided the luxury of staying in a prestigious apartment, but with the warmth and character of a much-loved home. Everything was provided to make our stay easy and comfortable. It was quiet, leafy, and incredibly peaceful sitting out on the deck, yet walking distance to the energetic Haight Street. Golden Gate Park is magnificent. We could walk through the park to the bike hire shop, walk to great pubs and restaurants, and the best thrift and vintage shops in San Francisco. We could also catch the bus from the front of the apartment to other neighborhoods. I would thoroughly recommend this apartment to anyone traveling to San Francisco. The service provided by the hostess and agent go well beyond the call of duty. They really are lovely and very generous people. We felt totally indulged.
