If getting away from it all is what you desire, consider this; The Eastern Shore of Virginia is considered one of the last pristine coastal wilderness zones left on the east coast. Here you can wade in the warm, shallow waters of the Chesapeake in search of conch shells. Bike along the paved trails of Kiptopeke. Fish or crab from the local docks. Marvel at the beauty and intricacy of the turn-of-the-century architecture. Play 18 holes of golf at the Signature Arnold Palmer Golf Club. Stroll through the specialty shops of downtown Cape Charles. Enjoy the quiet solitude of nature as you kayak through the marshes and in lands. Take an eco-tour and discover the wonder and beauty of the longest stretch of natural coastline on the entire eastern seaboard. Watch the sun set over the bay. The unspoiled natural beauty, slower pace and genuine southern hospitality of Virginia's Eastern Shore just may cause you to reconsider your definition of the word vacation. There is a beautiful feeling here in Cape Charles, a leave-your-cares-behind attitude that simply cannot be described. You have to experience it for yourself. Be sure to bring your boat, as parking is included! See 'How to have the perfect vacation' video at the bottom of this page!

We first found Cape Charles in 1997 and fell in love. We returned several times and each time became more convinced we needed a part of this unique little town. In 2003 we finally took the plunge.
One day, we will retire here. In the mean time, we'll play whenever we can.
Fran Gunnarsson purchased this townhome in 2003
We try very hard to make this feel like home. We provide lots of those 'little extras'.
Nature doesn't get much closer ~ at least not with these amenities!
We will always come back here and was effortless. Fran is easy to work with and very accommodating. Plenty of comfort accomodations. Bikes, equipment, furnishings, etc. very cozy and clean! Being so close to Kiptopeke State Park is awesome, within walking distance of the beach, crabbing, biking, kayaking, boating, fishing or just nice walks on the bay side. Within minutes of Cape Charles, approximately 35 minutes from Virginia Beach.
Our kids live the proximity and activities near by. We kayaked and fished during high tide in the Natire Preserve, so much fun. Caught some awesome fish while in the bay fishing and from the pier.
Condominium had much information regarding local hot spots and fun in the sun. We will return!
This is the second year we have stayed at this property and we love it. It is close to the Kiptopeke State Park and Cape Charles which we also love. The condo is well stocked and well maintained it has anything you could ask for. We plan on using it for several years to come.
My two favorite cousins and I decided to have a "girls trip". The house was simply amazing...and surpassed all of our needs. Everything we needed was there from a well-stocked kitchen to beach chairs in the garage!!! We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing day at the beach, dinner at The Shanty, and who could resist the awesome treats from Brown Dog Ice Cream. Fran (the owner) was amazing and super responsive; Cape Charles has a lot of really nice people and was the perfect location to reconnect and rejuvenate!! I would highly recommend this location and this perfect rental property!!
For us with 4 little kids it was a very good and relaxing vacation. we enjoyed the beach and the rangers activities there, the weather was great and it is very quiet and natural place to be.
The house is just perfect! it has everything you just need - toys, books, swing, full kitchen supplies (only the DVD didn't work..) and all the beach staff you will need. We highly recommend about this place!
Thank you Fran for opening up your home to us! Everything was great. I was surprised how well appointed it was, aside from the normal amenities there were even bikes in the garage, crabbing supplies, beach toys, umbrellas, you name it! The rooms were perfect, everyone was extremely happy and comfortable. One of the nicest things about the vacation home is that it is very quiet at night and the neighbors are quite friendly. In addition, the proximity to the Kiptopeke State Park and the beach is priceless! I would highly recommend staying here with your family if you would like the perfect relaxing vacation.
The condo was great. My wife's only 'complaint' was the upstairs bedroom suite (very large room, bathroom, walk-in closet) wasn't noise isolated from the downstairs enough. She goes to be earlier than the rest of us.
The beach was very nice, especially for younger children with the gentle slope.
Cape Charles was a little disappointing, but seems to be trying to make a comeback. I wish I would have checked out the golf courses before the last day! I don't think I would have had room in car for clubs, but could have rented some. Both courses look fantastic. One and Arnold Palmer and the other a Jack Nickalaus.
Your vacation home destination is just outside Kiptopeke State Park, just minutes to the beach, walking & bike trails and boat launch. Bring your boat, as parking is available. Kiptopeke, one of the nations best state parks, offers 540 acres of coastal wonderland and is a major causeway for migratory birds. Be sure to check out the weekly programs.
We are 6 miles south of historic Cape Charles, with shopping, restaurants and antiquing. Just 3 miles south you'll find the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, known as one of the Seven Engineering Wonders of the Modern World. For those who crave a little excitement just head across the bridge and in just 45 minutes you'll find yourself in downtown Virginia Beach. Rentals run Saturday to Saturday during the summer. If you have a larger group and are looking for two rentals close in proximity, check out Property 217615. You will be right next to each other!
