If getting away from it all is what you desire, consider this; The Eastern Shore of Virginia is considered one of the last pristine coastal wilderness zones left on the east coast. Here you can wade in the warm, shallow waters of the Chesapeake in search of conch shells. Bike along the paved trails of Kiptopeke. Fish or crab from the local docks. Marvel at the beauty and intricacy of the turn-of-the-century architecture. Play 18 holes of golf at the Signature Arnold Palmer Golf Club. Stroll through the specialty shops of downtown Cape Charles. Enjoy the quiet solitude of nature as you kayak through the marshes and in lands. Take an eco-tour and discover the wonder and beauty of the longest stretch of natural coastline on the entire eastern seaboard. Watch the sun set over the bay. The unspoiled natural beauty, slower pace and genuine southern hospitality of Virginia's Eastern Shore just may cause you to reconsider your definition of the word vacation. There is a beautiful feeling here in Cape Charles, a leave-your-cares-behind attitude that simply cannot be described. You have to experience it for yourself. Be sure to bring your boat, as parking is included! See 'How to have the perfect vacation' video at the bottom of this page!

About Fran Gunnarsson

We first found Cape Charles in 1997 and fell in love. We returned several times and each time became more convinced we needed a part of this unique little town. In 2003 we finally took the plunge.

One day, we will retire here. In the mean time, we'll play whenever we can.

Fran Gunnarsson purchased this townhome in 2003

Why Fran Gunnarsson chose Cape Charles

We try very hard to make this feel like home. We provide lots of those 'little extras'.

What makes this townhome unique

Nature doesn't get much closer ~ at least not with these amenities!

Virginia's Southern Charm Adds Value to the Bay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I brought our three children down to the Virginia side of the Chesapeake Bay for the first time. Kiptopeke State Park and Cape Charles are both beautiful. My nine-year-old son was very taken with Kiptopeke’s cement ghost ships which are now make-shift jetties. We enjoyed kayaking out to them for a closer look.

Cape Charles has retained its charm by refraining from the construction of high-rises. The town has some parallels with New Jersey’s Cape May. The houses are well kept, the streets are tree-lined, the park is very well maintained, the stores are quaint, and the merchants are friendly.

Although we visited the shops along Mason Ave., we spent most of our time on the beach and in the water. People on the beach are friendly and respectful. There is also plenty of room.

Fran provides just about anything a family needs for a day at the beach. She also has a number of bicycles, including cruisers, trail bikes, and 10-speeds. Unfortunately, a prior guest damaged Fran’s air pump. However, a friendly neighbor was happy to lend us his pump, so we inflated almost all of the tires. The kids greatly enjoyed riding to Kiptopeke’s pier and back.

Finally, the house itself is spacious and well equipped with children’s games and toys. Fran ensures that her guests have most of the basic needs. Any other wants can easily be attained by the nearby supermarket.

Amazing experience!

  • 5 of 5

The condo is so spacious the pictures really do not do it justice. It is right outside the Kiptopeke sate park gate. Such a family friendly experience with loads of amenities not listed that are already there. Interested in beach activities (chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards are provided). In the mood to bike, a half dozen bikes are there. Want to go fishing or crabbing? Well the poles and crab traps are there. My family and I could not have wished for a better experience. Just want to thank you again Fran! You have a gem a true gem!

Perfect Cape Charles Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this property - it was the perfect getaway for our family! It was spacious, clean, comfortable and really felt like our home away from home. We loved that we could take a long walk, quick jog or bike ride down to the water/park. That made the property even more perfect. The kids played wiffle ball in the backyard and we played games inside as a family as well - it was really nice! There was plenty of room for all of us to spread out and the kitchen had everything we needed. I'd certainly go back to Cape Charles and would stay here again.

Perfect getaway for family or couples...

  • 5 of 5

We will always come back here and was effortless. Fran is easy to work with and very accommodating. Plenty of comfort accomodations. Bikes, equipment, furnishings, etc. very cozy and clean! Being so close to Kiptopeke State Park is awesome, within walking distance of the beach, crabbing, biking, kayaking, boating, fishing or just nice walks on the bay side. Within minutes of Cape Charles, approximately 35 minutes from Virginia Beach.

Our kids live the proximity and activities near by. We kayaked and fished during high tide in the Natire Preserve, so much fun. Caught some awesome fish while in the bay fishing and from the pier.

Condominium had much information regarding local hot spots and fun in the sun. We will return!

A wonderful location to reconnect and relax.

  • 5 of 5

My two favorite cousins and I decided to have a "girls trip". The house was simply amazing...and surpassed all of our needs. Everything we needed was there from a well-stocked kitchen to beach chairs in the garage!!! We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing day at the beach, dinner at The Shanty, and who could resist the awesome treats from Brown Dog Ice Cream. Fran (the owner) was amazing and super responsive; Cape Charles has a lot of really nice people and was the perfect location to reconnect and rejuvenate!! I would highly recommend this location and this perfect rental property!!
