Constantly being updated and refurbished, this delightful house is located in one of the eighteenth century courtyards of Lough Cutra Castle. It contains 4 Bedrooms (3xdouble, 1xtwin) sleeping 8 people. It has it's own dining room, large living room with original wooden floors and a unique marble fireplace. There is a new large well equipped kitchen with original flagstone floors. 2x upstairs bathroom and downstairs wc.
The courtyard is at the heart of the 600 acre Lough Cutra Castle Estate which is abundant in wildlife through the large areas of woodland, pasture and open countryside. We are three miles from the market town of Gort in South Galway, and only half an hour from Shannon international airport. The cottage is about 500 metres from our own private 1000 acre lake, which can be used by arrangement.
Locally available is riding, hunting, shooting, fishing, beaches, hillwalking and other outdoor pursuits, as well as the world famous Burren and Connemara.

Carrie was very helpful with our booking and assisting us with last minute travel changes. A very easy process from start to finish.
We loved every minute of this stay. The estate grounds are beautiful and well kept. The castle and the cottages behind it are straight out of a movie. We stayed in a corner unit where the kitchen window has a peak view of the castle as you prepare your morning tea.
Our cottage was surrounded by lovely green hills and was quiet and comfortable for the four of us. It was very spacious and had all the furnishings and comforts we needed. We arrived and were greeted by Gordon who is a wonderful gentleman and so very accommodating. He had ensured we had fresh fruit, some biscuits, soda bread, tea, milk, jam and fresh eggs for the following morning.
We ended up having the entire estate to ourselves that week and were able to take long runs along the lake and pastures, wander along the pasture paths and befriend the menagerie of animals on the estate, tour the castle and relax and enjoy the life of a working castle estate.
It is close to so many sights and we were able to be at most of our chosen destinations within 30-40 minutes of leaving the castle. The town of Gort has some nice little pubs, a grocery store and other shops for your needs.
This is a perfect spot for families with kids of any age as well as for couples looking for a get away. We have recommended it to a number of friends already and we will most definitely keep this on our list of places to return.
The property is more than as advertised . Wonderful grounds to explore and just a lovely welcome and introduction to Ireland for my family. The accommodations were very nice and tremendously comfy. The folks we met were all wonderful
(after a week I am still on the search for my first grumpy Irishman) .
This review would not be complete without a word about Carrie. Wonderfully responsive and with my daughter taking ill, was great help in allowing us very early entry and offering medical contacts.
Will be high on our list of places to which to return.
Our family of five loved our time at Lough Coutra. The cottage was comfortable and cozy. It had all that we needed and was in a beautiful location. We enjoyed visiting the horses in the backyard and meeting the friendly locals who also live on the property. The view of the castle are amazing. It feels like another world. We hope to return someday for another stay. Many thanks!
Our stay at Lough Cutra Castle was most enjoyable. The grounds manager, Carrie, and I never spoke on the phone before we met on the grounds but emailed back and forth dates and the pricing of the various accommodations they had to offer. Payment was easy with a PayPal account since this enabled us to send our deposit quickly and PayPal handled the conversion of funds from USD to Euro Dollars. Since my family and I totaled 5 people, we would usually have to pay for 2 rooms in a hotel (limit is usually 4 per room), so were looking for a cottage. We found the Comorant at Lough Cutra castle to be within our price range. This would be if we thought the place was worth the money. It was!
From the time we arrived, Carrie greeted us and showed us the place where we would be staying for the next 3 nights. The accommodations were very spacious, and we had the smallest of the 3 places they had to offer! The boys all had very comfortable beds and my wife and I had our own master bedroom with bath. Downstairs, there was a comfortable TV room and large dining room and dining room table to match. The table was large enough to sit 8 comfortably! The kitchen was fully functional and we prepared lunch and dinner there half the time when we were back on the castle grounds. Carrie even gave us a dozen fresh eggs from the chickens they raised there on the farm. A nice added touch:) When we were not out sight seeing at some of the attractions (the Cliffs of Moher were about an hour car ride away), we were taking family walks around the vast grounds. Since the grounds are a working farm, I met the resident grounds keeper, Simon, and we talked some. He was responsible for maintaining the grounds. He did a nice job and the grounds looked great! In looking around, there were hidden places on the castle grounds that we didn’t know existed for a few days. For instance, there is a beautiful garden that must be about an acre filled with flowers and vegetables. Also, there was plenty of private walking trails where we took evening strolls. The big 1000 acre lake added to the scenic pictures of the castle. We were very pleasantly surprised by what we saw and even felt like royalty for a few days:)
Since this was our last place we stayed in Ireland before heading back to Shannon Airport (about a 35 minute drive) for our flight home, the memories of this place and Ireland will be with myself and my family for the rest of our lives.
My family and I searched for weeks to find a cottage in Ireland for our 2 week vacation. We wanted a central location for our day trips around the country. When my mom found Lough Cutra, we all thought that it was too good to be true! It is even more unbelievable in person.
Not only is the location beyond beautiful with the castle nearby, lake and fields to stroll past, but our hosts were incredibly gracious. They directed us to the best local haunts, shared produce from their garden and even let us rename their peacock, Kevin, whom we caught stealing strawberries. It was a dream vacation and we owe so much to our hosts at Lough Cutra. Thank you!!
Excellent. My family of six (wife and 4 young children) thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay. Accomodation was spacious and well maintained. The grounds were lovely. My children enjoyed the various animals (especially the caretaker's dogs!). Good location for exploring the mid-west coast of Ireland. I would highly recommend staying there.
Locally available there is riding, hunting, shooting, fishing, beaches, hillwalking and other outdoor pursuits, as well as the world famous Burren and Connemara. The cliffs of Moher, Aillwee Caves, Bunratty Castle Folk Park, Ashford Castle and the cities of Galway and Limerick are within an hours drive. The ring of Kerry is a fantastic day trip from the cottages as is a trip to the Aran Islands.
