House Giulio is a bright and spacious newly renovated apartment in the medieval heart of Ferrara. Located on the first floor of a typical house of Ferrara, in the limited traffic zone and away from the city noise, the apartment consists of three rooms + services: large bedroom with a double bed, living room with sofa bed 2 places, large kitchen kitchen and bathroom with shower. In addition ', features an exclusive outdoor terrace of 30 square meters overlooking the characteristic Via Fondobanchetto, to enjoy pleasant breakfasts and dinners or just relaxing at best.
The house is located in the most 'north of the ancient Castrum fortified, economic and political nucleus of Ferrara, built by the Byzantines in the sixth century. C. From historical research, you can 'say that traces of human settlements in this position of Via Fondobanchetto date back to around the X / XI century. c. The portal of the house, built in 1500, carries traces of ancient inscriptions whose meaning is "I enjoy this ... and hope for the better," attributed to this Bonfiol Julius Caesar, whose signature appears on the capital left. For this reason, more than 100 years the house it was declared by the Superintendence for Fine Arts in Ferrara.
House Giulio is therefore ideally placed to reach, within a few minutes walk, all places piu'interessanti of Ferrara, such as the Estense Castle, the Cathedral, Palazzo Schifanoia and in general all the historical center, where the 'apartment is located.
This newly renovated upstairs apartment is located withing minutes walking distance of the beautiful historic centre of Ferrara. The apartment is quiet despite my concerns as the local restaurants are not particularly noisy and with limited traffic there is no traffic noise. The owner provided bikes but we took our own and that gave us the possibility to cycle freely around, its a bike friendly city. There is off road storage.
The apartment has one bedroom, a large room with a large double bed and plenty of storage space the second bed is a fold out sofa bed next to the stairs which means children should be in the bedroom rather than sofa bed in the lounge/2nd bedroom. The ideal solution would have been a child size bed in the bedroom then we could have all slept in the bedroom together. The kitchen has everything you need, it lacked some steak knives but when advised the owner was going to put them in. The good sized balcony looks a nice place for a drink or dinner but in our case the weather was against us.
You can not park outside the apartment so should consider carefully if you are not very mobile as the closest parking areas are at least 250m and usually a lot further as spaces are at a premium, even in April/May but we found Via Scandiana to be the best solution to find a space but it often took several circuits. The owner does provide a 15 minute parking permit from picking up and dropping off luggage and/or people.
All in all a great place, a great location and a great city to visit....recommended!
This apartment is truly outstanding. Tastefully decorated ,spotless & furnished to a very high standard with all the facilities anyone requires. The balcony/patio area is perfect for chilling out after a hard days sightseeing. Enrico was the perfect host - always available to answer our queries & offer help & advice when we had a parking issue with the local constabulary! On that note driving & parking in Ferrara can be a bit stressful for the tourist therefore when we return it will be by public transport! The apartment is within walking distance for everything Ferrara has to offer - especially at night - very atmospheric. Would definitely stay here again.
We had a superb holiday, thanks to Alessandra and her family's lovely welcome and the excellent condition of the apartment. It is spacious, well-furnished and clean. There are excellent facilities in the kitchen and the bathroom and the hugely efficient air-conditioning units were a marvellous boon during the very hot summer of 2015.
The apartment is brilliantly situated in the heart of Ferrara, about 10-15 minutes walk from the Duomo and all the central bars and restaurants. There is a great, cheap pizzeria just up the road and a bakery about 5 minutes away, though the provision of two very good bikes makes getting further afield very easy. Alessandra was also happy to recommend places outside Ferrara, including a lovely restaurant at Lido di Spina, where we could take our dog for a swim in the sea.
On quieter days, we simply stayed on the roof terrace, reading and soaking up the atmosphere of Ferrara. And the apartment couldn't have provided a more relaxing and comfortable environment. We will definitely be returning!
During the last ten years or so we have stayed in about 25 different apartments in various parts of Italy. Of all of these, this apartment (Casa Giulia) in Ferrara is the best.
It is well located in the medieval sector of the city, but the real winner is the apartment itself. It is very well appointed, super clean, has good light and has made imaginative use of colour in the soft furnishings. Most importantly, everything works and the cupboards are well stocked with everything you could possibly need for preparing food and cooking, and for a generally comfortable stay.
The apartment comes with two bicycles which were a big plus in a city where almost everybody has one. Cycling around the city's walls was a real treat.
The apartment also has an outdoor terrace, perfect for morning breakfast or evening apertivo or dinner.
Alessandra and her husband were very friendly and helpful both before we arrived (answering emailed questions) and during our stay. For us, this apartment was a home away from home and we would have no hesitation in booking it again should we return to Ferrara.
We enjoyed a wonderful week in Alessandra's lovely apartment. The apartment has everything one needs for a nice vacation. It was very clean and the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The bed is large and very comfortable. Lots of pillows and blankets. Bill loved the kitchen which had a gas stove, dishwasher, proper knives and a large chopping block. It was great to have a balcony where we enjoyed our morning coffee and evening wine. The location is in the heart of the old historical district, and just down the street are shops and restaurants which lead right to the town square so everything is very easy to get to. Everyone bikes all over and Alessandra has bikes that you can borrow.
Alessandra is fluent in English and so nice to chat with too. We feel very lucky to have found such a nice place for a vacation.
