Lopes is a spacious quayside house overlooking the fishing harbour, marina, fish market, and with commanding views across Torbay and Lyme Bay. Lopes was built during the 1700's. Once a pub; in 1860 it was known as 'The Lopes Arms'. Since then it has gone through several transformations, but is still at the heart of the fishing town, always bustling with activity during the Easter and Summer months, and is only minutes walk from the many bars, restaurants, shops and the coastal path.

Unusually for a quayside property Lopes has private off-road parking for two cars only a few minutes walk away.

With three bedrooms, two bathrooms a utility room and a small courtyard ideal for drying off swimwear after a day on the beach, Lopes is ideal for families wishing to explore Brixham and the surrounding area. In one of the bedrooms the two single beds can be fixed together and be made up as a double if required (please advise at time of booking). The living area is on the third floor to take best advantage of the panoramic views. From here you can observe every sailboat, power boat and fishing boat that enters and leaves Brixham harbour.

Breakwater Beach and Shoalstone Seawater Pool are within easy walking distance. Catching crabs on the quayside is very popular and of course there is the replica Golden Hind to visit and pirates are ever-present!

Despite being built nearly two hundred years ago, Lopes has spacious rooms (especially compared to many of the fishermen's cottages), and has recently been fully modernised to an exceptionally high standard.

Lopes was the house I just had to have as soon as I saw it - its location is perfect.

What makes this house unique

Hardly any other quayside properties can offer private off-road parking. Most people renting around the harbour are left hunting for parking spaces in the busy car parks and, further afield, on the roads without yellow lines.

The two parking spaces are about 350 metres from Lopes - four or five minutes walk.

Great place to stay in Brixham

Lopes is such a great place to stay in Brixham. Overlooking the busy harbour it was interesting to see the fishing industry in operation. The top floor living space has fabulous views across the harbour and out to sea. On a clear day we could see Torquay and sometimes all the way across to Lyme Regis.

Lopes is very spacious, modern, spotlessly clean and comfortable. There are 2 steep flights of stairs up to the top floor but the views are worth the effort. The kitchen is very well equipped.

There is ample space for 2 cars in the parking area 5 minutes walk away, which again is steeply uphill ( but down on the way back!). We were able to park to unload luggage quite near to the front door.

The owner, Chris, was very helpful and friendly, promptly answering one or two questions and the welcome pack was very much appreciated.

Lopes has lots of restaurants, cafes, pubs and shopping on the doorstep in Brixham. It is such an easy place to stay. The walks and views from here along the South West coast path, just in front of the house, are stunning.

We hope to return and highly recommend Lopes.

Wonderful House, location and view!

We had a marvelous three nights at the Lopes house. This is a 5 star house - wonderful view, great location in the village and fine touches inside that awaited us. The bottle of wine, fresh flowers, fruit, and excellent condition of the house were most appreciated. We enjoyed the Rockfish and Old Market restaurants, walked to Berry Head in a screaming wind and walked the jetty in a slightly less wind. A great town that we could have enjoyed for several more days had our time allowed. We found nothing lacking in the presentation and details of this house. It does have a lot of stairs as it is 3 stories. If I could give a half star rating, it would have been reflective of the wicked walk to the car park area from the house. A good 10 minutes is needed - it is all steeply uphill with many, many steps. Not for the feeble. But the house is done so well, I don't want to detract from the effort there. The owners have done a very good job with the décor and furnishings for guests. Very clean, modern, well equipped and nice. It is as shown in the description and pictures, only nicer, I think. We could only hope that all 5 star accommodations would be this well done.

We were amazed when we walked in!! It was even better than the photos.

The house is so well equipped. Immaculate. Everything you could wish for. The beds are really comfortable which was so good. We could go on and on. Ofcourse the view was lovely , so interesting. Walking round the harbour to the lighthouse each day was really lovely too. Highly recommend going there.

WEEKEND BREAK AWAY

We had a lovely weekend break with our friends, the house had everything we needed. It was comfortable and very well equipped.

The communication with both HomeAway and the property owners was first class.

Thank you, the little extras with the wine, chocolates and flowers were a lovely welcome.

Remember lots of steps in Brixham which kept us fit.

The car parking facility was about 4 min away which is fine as you drop off all your stuff and get rid of the driving.

Try The Queens Arms for a real pub, if you like real ale. (£2.60 a pint).

Fantastic walks, great NationalTrust properties to visit and lovely fish suppers.

Will return again!

Brixham is an excellent place to be based for exploring South Devon. Dartmouth, with it's marina, castle and naval college, Dartmoor national park for awe-inspiring walks including the mysterious Wistmans Wood, and quaint Totnes town are just some of the places of interest.
